Packer Fan in the house: Part II
Hello Arizona fans! I know many questions were answered in last week's fanpost, so this one is more of a touch up than anything. Me personally, I'm not taking last week's matchup seriously. I could tell instantly that Arizona was not trying to show much and did not take the game seriously. Although I was surprised Fitz and Boldin played as long as they did, I was even more surprised with how long Rodgers stayed in the game for us. Only time will tell which approach was better: rest your starters or keep the momentum up in the playoffs.
Going into this weekend's wild card matchup with Arizona, I am expecting Arizona's defense to blitz heavy as opposed to what they did last weekend. I'm not sure what their offense will do much differently, maybe utilize Breaston a little more. If Breaston is to have a huge game, it will be against us.
A question for you fans though: Are DRC and Anquan Boldin healthy and will they play this weekend? What other kind of questions do you have regarding the Packers?
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Revenge of the Birds' (ROTB) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of ROTB's editors.

Hello
DRC will probably be okay, they think Campbell can play with a cast, Boldin probably won’t be able to go, but if he doesn’t there is a lot of depth with the receivers on the team.
Everyone on the Packers site probably knows I was mad that their starting offense was out there so long, I would have put most of the backups in there at the start of the second half. Especially since the Cardinals were using a defense made of mostly backups since the second series IIRC. Do you think it was a mistake for McCarthy to leave them in the game so long?

The Packers offensive line
Has limited sacks in the second half of the season(after the TB loss). What has changed?
What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.
Revenge of the Birds
Yes, it has improved
Weeks 1-8: 37 sacks allowed
Weeks 9-18: 10 sacks allowed
It is a mix of a couple things. LT Chad Clifton is healthy again, which really helps. RT Mark Tauscher, who we had for so many years, was finally resigned on Week 8. Backup T TJ Lang has been very good when one of the 2 have gone down.
When our OL was having issues in the 1st Half, our OL was never consistent. Our RT was Allen Barbre, who hasn’t played a snap since losing his starting job. When Chad Clifton was out early in the year, LG Darryn Colledge moved to LT, and that move was an absolute disaster, most noticably against Minnesota. Once he got injured in the game @ MN, rookie TJ Lang finally got his chance to prove himself and looked alright.
Besides our Offensive Line gelling, Aaron Rodgers has made excellent progress in getting rid of the ball quicker, so that has relieved a lot of stress from the OL as well.

Amazing
what a healthy LT does for an OL (not that we’ve had any experience with that this year ourselves…)
We had Clifton who is our starting LT hurt for a couple of games (both Vikings games) and had Allen Barbre starting at our RT, who is the worst RT in the league. We got Tauscher back, who had been our starter at RT since 2000 before tearing his ACL late in 2008. Having both of them healthy has really helped shore things up. Our offense also got back to some of the quick, short routes as opposed to trying to go deep so much.

Combination of Things
Pass protection has improved on all fronts.
Better players, playing consistently. (Getting Tauscher back from injury was huge.)
Better play, with Wells providing leadership and direction.
More protection packages and more/better chips and blitz pick-ups from backs.
Better play calling, with more plays designed to slow the pass rush.
Should provide a surprise to the Vikings D, if we’re lucky enough to play them again.

I think so too. Jared Allen went up against Colledge, who is our starting LG, and Lang who was a rookie in his first ever start. I think he had 8 sacks in those two games. Obviously I can’t say for sure but I would think Clifton would do a much better job against him, and if this happened then I think their secondary would struggle. The key to beating the Vikings is shutting down their d-line. Their secondary has been fortunate to hide behind their tremendous d-line for much of the year, and when they haven’t been able to hide behind the d-line teams have scored on them pretty much at will.

I find it funny how Jared Allen gets so much praise
He ends the season with 13.5 sacks, but had 8 of those against Green Bay when GB was going through chaos with its OL. Talk about overrated!

I noticed that last year. Most of his sacks came from teams with crappy O lines.

Revenge of the Birds
Meh
If Frasier man’d up and called some blitzes people wouldn’t be able to double/triple team him as much.
If Minnesota’s DL was so great, it’d be able to penetrate more pressure with double teams on Pat Williams and Jared Allen and Kevin Williams…apparently, it’s always those 3 guys getting double teamed. hmmm. max protection i guess on every down. LOL.
Go Pack!
Ok you got me they don't double team Jared Allen
Your right. I’m wrong the D line of the Vikes is terrible, we must look upon the awesomness of the packs D line. By the way I enjoyed the negativity of your post.
Gotta love viking fans
Yes, I love our DL. we can get penetration with 3 linemen, not to mention Clay Mathews roaming free in the backfield.
Go Pack!
Allen gets chipped blocked a lot but I wouldn’t consider that as being double teamed. Kevin Williams usually has to deal with the C and RG. Allen usually has to deal with a LT and TE/RB.
Our d-line actually is kind of awesome :). It’s been a huge change from last year when it seemed like our 4 guys on the d-line were taking two steps backwards at the snap of the ball, and then trying to move forward.

Another thing...
Something that is overlooked a lot is the emergence of Ryan Grant. His ability as taken some pressure off the pass. He’s the third leading rusher in the NFC now.
How is Woodson doing after he hurt his shoulder?

Epic Game
Good luck to your Cardinals the rest of the way. That was a great game, too bad we fell short. I’ll be rooting for either you or the Saints to go all the way as it would be devastating to see Brent (we’ll never forget you) Favre win a Super Bowl for Minnesota. I doubt he will, but that’s one of those what if scenarios. Good luck Arizona and Go Cardinals for the rest of this year!
