Lets all get used to the idea that this year is going to be rough. For starters, after watching Sundays game again, I just dont see how some can claim that the defense is improving. Take the 3rd and 4th quarters for instance. Did anyone notice how many times TB ran at the side maned by Dockett? On multiple plays, especiall a crucial 3rd and long in TB own end, (TB eventually scored on the drive) Blount ran to the right where Dockett was. Double D had Blount dead to rights and Blount ran through DD getting the first down. Rhodes wiffed on a couple as well. Toler and DRC are constantly getting beat deep. Pretty solid on the short stuff, but getting beat deep several times a game. The defense has the Bucs pinned deep, used TOs to preserve some time on the clock and what do they do? Yep, they allow Blount to rattle of a carry of 40 yards. Again, I believe, on third down. Blount didnt make a spectacular run nor was he very fast, the Cards just didnt make the play. A few guys had shots at him and they just didnt make the play. Oh yeah and what side did they run at? On one play Dockett beat his innitial assignment then got pummeled by another lineman. I mean he got sent flyin'!
Now that being said, TB score 24 points off turnovers. 2 pick sixes, a failed fourth and goal and 2 other red zone trips that ended in zero points were the Big Reds demise. Did the D play well enough to win the game? Damn right they did, just as they did last week. Given, of course, if the O had done its job. The D won the game against Oakland but even then they still gave up plays that allowed Oakland several opportunities to score points and win the game. I know it sounds like I am contridicting myself but I am just pointing out that the Defense is just as much to blame as the O. No, it is not their fault that Hall scored 21 consecutive points and threw his first 3 touchdowns of the year, but when they need to stop TB, they couldnt. Had they been able to do so, the Cards win big even with the Hall's TDS. All of them!
