Coach Ken Whisenhunt expressed confidence in Matt Leinart following Kurt Warner's retirement Friday.
"What I think back to is the second half in the preseason when he threw for 300 yards [against the Packers]," Whisenhunt said. "Matt's not a rookie. He's been in this offense for three years." The Cardinals appear ready to turn the offense over to Leinart as opposed to importing a veteran this offseason. They need to see if the 2006 first-rounder can be the solution before his $12.9M tab comes due next offseason.

Leinart's contract situation is something no one seems to consider.
There is no way the Cardinals aren’t going to give him the shot at starting next season. Much like Vince Young and the Titans, the Cardinals organization needs to know what they have. I can see them bringing in 2 new QBs in the off season, a rookie and a veteran back up, but Leinart needs to be put through the crucible now that Warner is gone. He has the potential. Let’s hope he fulfills it.
