Love and hate for the former Cardinal
its just buisness
Nothing against the man that led our team for the last few years. But i almost feel like he commited high way robbery. he gave us one year of the 2 he promised and made off with a sum of cash around 14 to 16 million. Was it the plan from thestart of the year probobly not. but if i was a player i want his agent for making the deal he got so front loaded and so easy to say holy crap i made 14 million this year and only going to make half that next year. eh i think im done . so im just ranting but the man got paid. i appreciate the things he did but its time to move on. so with that give me matt or give me death

How I wish you hadn't said that
Warner left about as much money on the table as he received. I believe between salary and bonus he didn’t get about $11 million of it.
However, for what he did for this franchise (on and off the field) I wouldn’t have any issue with him taking the entire amount.
im just saying
that for a person that seemed from game one of the season that he had made up his mind that this was his last season and he made more then eleven this year i love the guy and wish more were like him. but he did not fullfill his contract and thats what im saying. The title was the love and hate for the guy. i love what he has done and am thankfull for him and his contrabutions to the community and the team. but the hate is that he could play one more year and for the money that i paid and the money that the rest of the fans payed that in return payed his contract and made it possiable that he gives back. i am just saying as a fan that is angry and i have every right to be this way with out your critisism so if you cant see that then at least give me a break.

I don't think he had decided to retire from game one.
I think after the first few weeks of the season he started to contemplate it and then the concussion probably pushed it further.
I find it hard to have any hate for a guy that helped this team win 4 playoff games and come within minutes of winning a Super Bowl. I am grateful for everything Warner gave this team despite the fact he did not play out his contract.
i need to repeat my self i love warner but i still am angry thats all that is my right as a fan

Last I checked.
You need at least 2 partie, to AGREE on a contract.
Rod Graves knew exactly what he was giving into.
Jeez, man, you won’t Kurt to not remember what he had for breakfast yesterday?
Guarenteed, Favre as awesome as he still is, is going to have a mean mean mean post-football life, physically and mentally.
Warner is being smart, the guy has 22 kids, theres more to life than football.
Would you stay at your job if you risked having serious life issues from your job, keep in mind, your nest egg is already fat as well???

+1
Just to add to that, NFL contracts aren’t guaranteed so if he had suffered a career-ending injury this season it’s not like the Cardinals would paid him for 2010 because he signed a contract. I don’t see this as backing out of anything by Warner – like you noted he’s walking away while he still can.
After the beating he took this year
who can blame him? I’m the same age as Warner. I understand how he feels. Those knocks aren’t healing so fast as they used to. I know I would walk away in his position. He has a lot of things he wants to do outside the game. His life doesn’t revolve entirely around football. Why should he cripple himself for the entertainment of others?
Gladiators?
Maybe I’m in the wrong time period…
Na, I was 99% sure Warner was going to retire after this season and I hold no grudges. He did everything you could ask of a QB as a fan (except that Carolina game…. eeek). While I am not confident in Leinart, I am VERY confident in the wonderful Whiz of AZ. Hopefully Graves likes to win as much as the rest of us do and isn’t in it for the $$$ from shared revenues…
They are who we thought they were!

C'MON MAN!!! You are not worthy to carry KW's jock strap!
You really need to do an internet search with maybe “Kurt Warner Retires Signing Bonus” before posting crap like this.
Warner’s deal was set up so he got exactly 50% the first year and 50% the second year. The possibility of only playing one year was discussed at length in his contract negotiations.
His base salary was $4M each year and he was to get $15M for signing spread out equally over the two years ($23M Total). The signing bonus and first year were guaranteed meaning if he got hurt the day after he signed he got everything but the year 2 base salary, so they say $19M of the $23 was guaranteed. If a player retires, he may not get all the guaranteed money depending on how the contract is worded.
Actually KW could have gone out and got a doctor to say he should never play again and pocketed another $7.5M over the next year or waited until later to retire and likely nabbed a roster bonus for showing up at training camp then retiring.
Sorry for picking on you DaCards, but I’m so f’ing tired of seeing fan posts with facts that are just plain wrong on ROTB. If you are going to include facts in your fan post, PLEASE CHECK THEM or ask someone how much he was getting of the $23M before teeing off. KW is a class act that you are not worthy to criticize.

I like Fried Chicken and Kool Aid.
Life's too short. Be a fan. Orlando Magic, Arizona Cardinals,Tampa Bay Rays and of course "the U"! What a winning combo.
I figured
The direction of this post was to eventually start saying a bunch of stupid stuff. Why not go straight from A-Z and skip B-Y.

Kurt should most certainly not be viewed as a thief!
He gave his all to the Cardinals organization and then decided to hang up his cleats for his long term health and his family. Kurt’s actions are extremely commendable and deserve respect. Oh and by the way if it isn’t known by now he left 11.5 million on the table by retiring.
