Whitehust? 3rd rounder? I think not!!!!
I don't see the infatuation with Charlie Whitehust, am I wrong here? Never thrown a pass in the NFL, and worst of all giving up a 3rd round pick for an unproven back-up. I understand we need a back up QB but a guy with some experience might be more useful. I am not a huge fan of D Anderson, but he just cost money, NO PICK!! The guy has a big arm, my not be that accurate but he has been in the trenches. Then you draft a QB, round 4-6, he maybe a little raw but should have time to learn the game.

D.A.
Provided Anderson could be picked up for a reasonable amount, I completely agree. Kinda like Kafka as a later round draft pick at that point. Then we would have used one pick and ended up with 2 QB’s (which we gotta have).
Hold on 1 sec

That was my initial reaction too...
but then I decided to trust the F.O. and Whiz. They have been on the money for the most part since Whiz has taken over.
I will be very disappointed if we sign D.A. though. I’ve seen a number of his games and he is not good.
Anderson vs Whitehurst
DA is definitely the less costly move but there’s no certainty he’ll sign here. Considering how long the process is for getting a RFA it’s no surprise that the Cards and ’hawks made offers when they did for Whitehurst.
Anderson’s stats match up fairly well with Leinart’s. He’s had a pro-bowl season balanced by a Jamarcus Russel like performance. Who is the real Derek Anderson?
As for Whitehurst, he hasn’t had the opportunity to prove himself so there is a lot of unknown. Charger fans (and some others) seem to think they have the best back up in the league in Volek. Whitehurst is buried in San Diego. It didn’t surprise me at all when the Cards popped a name from nowhere on us. I was anticipating it. He was probably a QB they liked the looks of coming out of college and he’s had 4 years of development in a good place for it.
Is Whitehurst worth a 3rd? I think so. Is it a better move? Without seeing what he’s got I wouldn’t say either way.
I agree.
Volek is a good backup and many people think Whitehurst isn’t the 2nd not because of talent but because Voleks actual game experience.
While I wouldn’t mind the guy on the team, I am very hesitant to give up a third. Now because of Seattle’s situation it’s a very strong probability that we will be giving up less than a third, and that I am okay with. A third is just too valuable this year.

I don't want to give away a pick either.
The team just has too much ground to make up. When I look at the value of Whitehurst seperately though, I do consider him worth a 3rd. I’d much rather they use it on him than pick a 3rd round rookie.
Hell, maybe even go for Chris Simms
Sure, he sucked with the Broncos when neckbeard got hurt but at least he has experience and he would be pretty cheap.
Lifelong Arizona Cardinals/Chicago Bears fan.
I can't stand fair-weather/bandwagon fans, stick with your team, throughout the good and the bad.
With
the draft class that is available I would rather take Whitehurst. Leinart will be great on his own but they need a 2 or 3 tier system set up in case of injuries. Better to have a veteran of the NFL that has some training behind Rivers than a rookie with no training at all. It is worth the 3rd round pick on Charlie.
