Shawn Andrews Released.. Cardinals an Option?
So let me start this out by saying there are currently no rumors or stories that have been released yet of any teams interested in signing Andrews. This is purely hypothetical. Jason La Canfora reports,
"The Philadelphia Eagles announced the release of Shawn Andrews on Wednesday, ending the guard's six-year stay with the team that selected him 16th overall in the 2004 NFL Draft.
"We appreciate the efforts and contributions of Shawn while he was in Philadelphia," Eagles coach Andy Reid said in a statement released by the team. "We have, however, decided to move in another direction."
A back injury has limited Andrews to just two games over the last two seasons. Andrews was supposed to return to the starting lineup in 2009, but he reinjured his back during training camp and missed the entire season."

I know we've already signed Hadnot to a 3-year deal so I severely doubt this will happen but since its the slow part of the off-season and I'm bored at work, might as well ask the question. What do you guys think? Risk some money on a former 16th overall pick who had a few beastly years with the Eagles prior to injury (I only know he's pretty good because on Madden 2010 he's like 97 overall, I know that doesn't exactly translate onto the field but it has to hold at least some merit... right?) .This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Revenge of the Birds' (ROTB) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of ROTB's editors.

I'd be very hesitant
That back injury would need some serious looking into first. Doubtful they would pick up another guard anyway.
Cost
If he could be gotten on the cheap (I’m sure that he likely will no longer be overly expensive) it would be a good investment. Our O-line has gotten fairly consistent, but they aren’t all that, yet.
as an avid madden player
his 97 means nothing.
warner and leinart have the same speed rating.
and
DRC has 98, speed rating.
bunch of horse crap, madden raters.
oh yeah and lienart and vick have the same rating, even tho vick hasnt played in two years.

Yeah I agree about some of the ratings obviously being whack
I just meant that in the eyes of most avid NFL fans (and hopefully some of the people working for Madden are) he was an absolute monster on a great Eagles O-line. He’s a couple years removed yeah but if the talent was there it should still be, I wouldn’t imagine the drop off (especially for an O-lineman) being that significant.

I do a lot of the rating myself.
I gave Leinart a 65 for speed, does that sound right?
Lifelong Arizona Cardinals/Chicago Bears fan.
I can't stand fair-weather/bandwagon fans, stick with your team, throughout the good and the bad.
I think it would be a great idea to sign him, but he has a history of some mental issues. His desire to play football has been questioned, there’s no guarantee he even wants to continue playing.
Didn't know about that,
obviously a big factor though.

Mental Issues?
As in not focused on football or as in total nutjob?
i've read it a few places
before, but can’t remember where. I want to say National Football Post, Sal Paolantonio, rotoworld blurbs, etc.
Wasn’t he out last year mostly because of depression, not the back injury? Or was out because of depression and then hurt his back when he came back?
The back issue is a big deal
If he can rehab it and get to 100%, and we can get a good deal, then why not? Especially if he plays at a pro bowl level.
What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.
Revenge of the Birds
We do have Lott
And people seem to stay pretty healthy out here in the desert.
They are who we thought they were!
I think if its a good price....
then yes, one team can never have enough good o line men.
The Eagles plan
was to move him to RT and play alongside his brother before he got injured. I think that’d be a great signing if he can stay healthy and fill the hole we’ll have at RT if Levi ends up moving to LT as anticipated.

He hasn't played football in 2 years.
I can’t imagine him demanding or commanding much money in free agency. If that is the case, then by all means sign him to a low-end, one or two year deal. If he manages to turn it around, the holy shit do we have a bargain. If not? Cut him during training camp and it won’t be an issue.
