Around SBN: Odds On Peyton Manning's Next Home Includes Three Teams

" 'I know I can be a starter in this league, but when you have Kurt (Warner) in front of you , a veteran going to the Hall of Fame, you know your position and you have to prepare just having to be ready if the opportunity comes,' Leinart said. 'Now, it’s a totally different mindset because this is my time, the opportunity I have wanted and it is here. I am more focused and hungrier than I have every been in my entire football career, college and pro.'

That's the kind of statements I want to hear from Matt Leinart heading into next season. He sounds like he's ready to prove what he's all about.

Go Matty!

I was very excited when we drafted Matt, then that excitement kinda’ ebbed a bit. I still feel, though, that he is a highly intelligent QB that has the ability to take us far, provided his enthusiasm level is high enough. I believe he is ready, and by mid-season will be showing us all some true leadership and very good numbers (provided he stays healthy). Combine what I believe will be excellent play by our QB with our newly arrived and still growing running game, our offense shouldn’t see much of a drop off. Now if we can build that LB corps up we will be going places!

When Leinart was drafted

there was too much hype around him. A rookie is still a rookie no matter what they did in college. I remember John Elway lining up behind guard for a snap his rookie year. Too much expectation was put on Leinart when the team was not yet built for success. Now the pendulum has swung the other way. That’s ok. Let the media put a another chip on the Cardinals’ shoulder. This should be Leinart’s break out season.

This.

Add that Matt’s first two seasons was a merry go round of knee jerk reactions, coaching changes and a team in desperate need of leadership…quite a change from his experiences at Mater Dei and USC.

Kurt’s first two seasons (with the same players) was far from stellar, and he had more than a few years of experience over the rookie, I do believe the best season Kurt had prior to drafting Matt was 5-11.

Matt does have some skills that are exciting to watch…more play action, rolling out of the pocket and he can throw very well on the run…and he loves a running game, and was known to audible to a run play as much as a pass while at SC. A balanced offense, with a great defense, will make us consistent contenders, Kurt Warners of the world come along only one a generation.

This is his time, I hope he does exactly what he did at SC….he followed a Heisman winning QB (another gunslinger), and exceeded his great career to become one of the greatest players to ever wear the Cardinal & Gold.

Anderson will challenge him, that’s what it’s all about, competition.

I would like to see how well Matt can read the defense and change to a run or a pass play.

I don't know

If I’m as high on Leinart as some folks apparently are, but I think he’ll do fine. Of course there’s going to be a drop-off, going from a Hall of Fame QC who’ll go down as one of the most accurate and intelligent of all time, to anyone else. But, I don’t think Leinart will cost the Cards too many wins.

I don't

want to come across as being “high” on leinart or thinking he’s going to be anything like warner. Man I already miss that guy. I just think that everything is going to fall into place for him and give him a better chance at having a decent coming season.

Sorry folks, park's closed. Moose out front shoulda told ya.

I like to hear this

But im like 70% sure he will lose his job to DA. DA is going to be the silent killer.
idk we will see i like Matt

Matt Leinart will have to fight for the starting job

I think Derek Anderson is going to give him some tough competition. Matt Leinart could end up being the starter, or it could go to Derek Anderson. Both are highly possible.

The Cards FO definitely did well picking up Anderson

If you have a one-time pro bowl and starting QC — who’s still young — on your roster as your back-up? You’re in good shape.

I feel very good about Leinart.

I don’t think he will be as good as Warner, but he will be good.

Meh, we'll see

Leinart’s gonna struggle the first 6 games or so and he’ll be lucky if Anderson dont come out firing on all 8 cylinders and takes his job. Whiz aint gonna leave him in there for long if he’s blowing it

by Dem_Cardz on Mar 18, 2010 4:10 PM MDT reply actions

Leinart's been around too long for that

With a full off-season as the starter, I think he’ll be ready to go.

Anderson has a lot of improving to do if he’s going to push for the job at this point.

Well I hope Leinart

has as much confidence in himself as you do. I think Anderson is going to take full advantage of this opportunity and do something better than his stats say he will. Well either way I hope whoever ends up being the qb he doesnt end up being the league joke

You said it. Please don't let them both suck!

A middle of the pack QB is tolerable. I don’t know how much to expect out of Leinart this year but I figure he can at least be average. I’m not ready to put that much trust in Anderson yet.

And another thing

Is it me or does this photo make Leinart look really gay?

by Dem_Cardz on Mar 18, 2010 6:45 PM MDT reply actions

If you ignore the football and the helmet

it does look like he’s checking out his teammates… At least we have the hot tub photos floating around the internet to prove he’s into the ladies haha.

Maybe there is a hot chick in the stands?
