ZONA FANS VOTE FOR MOCK DRAFT
I am representing your Cardinals in a mock draft on www.milehighreport.com (denver broncos sister site)
I would like input into who you are interested in (3 rounds only) with your #26, #58, #88, and 89
My thinking is that most would love OLB with pass rush potential, ILB to replace Dansby, LT, maybe 3rd corner, and perhaps another QB?? thats 5 players with only 4 picks
also trades ( of 2010 draft picks only) are allowed...trading up from #26 using #58 could get us to atlanta -cincy range? #19-21?
trading up from #58 using a 3rd could get to bottom of 1st or top of 2nd.
trading both 3rds would get another mid 2nd
please vote, but also give feedback for all three rounds
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Revenge of the Birds' (ROTB) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of ROTB's editors.

You could add NT to your list.
As you’ve pointed out that is more players than picks so trading up isn’t going to help the cause. In the first 2 rounds I’d go with BPA at OT, ILB, OLB, or possibly NT. In the third round BPA at any of the positions that haven’t been filled (out of OT, ILB, OLB, NT, CB). Inclined to take the OT in rounds 1 or 2 based on positional value. I’d wait on QB until 4th round or later. In the 3rd I’d be willing to take a chance outside of the needs mentioned if someone dropped well below their value.
Agreed
BPA is really the key word in trying to assess our upcoming draft. Our most glaring need is at ILB, specifically the weakside where Dansby once roamed. Our only “replacement” to this point has been the signing of Paris Lenon, but I don’t think anyone sees him as a starter. If either McClain (highly unlikely) or Weatherspoon (possibly, fingers crossed) slide to #26 I think we’ll have our draft card in a pick early like we did last year with Beanie Wells at #31.
Otherwise, like hadrarius said, it’s BPA. The national media seems more focused on an OLB than our F.O. does, as we drafted that position twice last year (Will Davis and Cody Brown), signed a free agent (Stevie Baggs) and supposedly have some guys on the practice squad they feel pretty good about (Mark Washington). And while a lot of us see a glaring need at NT, that is another position that I haven’t heard the F.O. talk about. The only thing I’ve heard them say is that linebacker and offensive line is always a priority. I do have a difficult time seeing our OL being added to that much. It would appear that we have eight spots locked up already, and a ninth OL being resigned.
Ok, so to help you out with something more specific, here goes. Keep in mind I have a bad habit of creating mock drafts where the player I hope for magically slides to where we’re picking so take this with a grain of salt:
- - Sean Weatherspoon
- - Cam Thomas – NT (NC)
- - Eric Norwood – OLB (South Carolina)
- - John Jerry – OG (Ole Miss)
Off the top of my head I think the first three rounds could go something like that, ask me again tomorrow and I may have four completely different players for you.
Good Luck.
Note
I didn’t mean to list 1-4, should have listed #26, #58, #88 & #89. I’d be surprised if traded much come draft day.
John Jerry?
Curious about your thoughts on drafting an interior OL. The aquisition of Rex Hadnot keeps me leaning away from one.
I think
the signing of Hadnot is more of an insurance policy, if you will. I believe he’ll have a similar role to Bridges, not necessarily a starter but obviously could be. A guy like John Jerry would be another step towards the power running game I know the Whiz wants to implement here. I don’t see us taking more than one O’Lineman in the draft, I suppose it could be a tackle early on, but my gut says otherwise. Plus, there is a thought that Jerry may be able to play Tackle at the next level so he seems to have the versatility that Grimm likes.
I think Jerry can be the same type of road grader that Iupati is projected to be, but doesn’t carry the first-round price tag. Admittedly, this thought puts a lot of stock into either Johnson or Keith developing into a starter at the Tackle position but I think that will be the case.
Thanks
I agree about only seeing one OL in the draft this year. I would suspect that if we don’t see an OT by the second that guard or center is in the mix too. The fact that Hadnot can also play center does give a lot of room for choice.
It was my opinion that the Cardinals would use 3 out of the first 4 picks on defense. Signing Porter today may have changed that.
I hear you
With all the changes we’re making it’s getting very difficult to try and predict the draft, other than acknowledge your original point that it will the BPA at the time we’re drafting.
Looking forward to seeing who it will be. Oh, kind of an interesting side note to Jerry. He is the brother of Peria Jerry, the big D’Lineman that I think Atlanta drafted last year. He is most often compared to, get this, Leonard Davis.
CODY BROWN OUT FOR THE YEAR!
Browns agent is reporting that the guy has suffered an “rare” injury and will be lost for the season. the Cardinals 2010 draft pick will be Jerry Hughes!

For the first round, your board should look something like this:
1. Bruce Campbell
2. Sean Weatherspoon
3. Charles Brown
4. Terrence Cody
5. Jerry Hughes
Obviously, if a Russel Okung or Rolando McClain drops, you should probably pick them up, but yeah. Stay away from Anthony Davis, he’s too lazy to ever make anything of himself, and Trent Williams is another 1st round bust waiting to happen.
If someone like Iupati or Pouncey drops, you should look into picking him up, too. Rex Hadnot’ll probably be our starting Center next year, but if we’re transition to a more run-heavy attack, we’ll need an upgrade at LG, too. Wells is decent in pass protection, but is hardly a mauler.
Again no one brings it up
But with either our second or one of our 2 (possibly 3) third round picks shouldn’t we pick up a CB? Our depth there is surprisingly scary. It seems like either people are fine with Michael Adams being on the field in dime packages or that DRC is so good he can cover two receivers at once or something. After last year I lost all faith in “Lead feet” McFadden as a starter, he should strictly be a nickle corner. Maybe we just haven’t put enough emphasis on it.
What do you guys really think about our overall CB situation?

Better than you're thinking
in my opinion. I really believe that Toler will be ready to take the starting position from McFadden, and with him and Adams in back-up roles I think they’ll do fine. Our pass rush should be better as well, so that will take a lot of pressure off the secondary.
I think the hole Dansby left, the need for a dominant NT, and possibly another O’Lineman outweigh the need at CB.
I guess I'm just not used to
trusting a head coach. Now that you mention your faith in Toler I realize that must stem more from the trust the coaching staff has in him than from his playing time (which even though he did well was very limited).
Under any other head coach I think most of us would be sweating bullets over our CB situation but In Whiz We Trust. If he and his coaching staff say Toler has greatly improved and we see that reflected in his limited time on the field then I’m happy.
Would still like to use one of our 3rd round or our 4th round pick on a CB we can develop..

I did mention CB as a need.
The draft class is supposed to be comparably deep with DBs this year from what I have read so it doesn’t seem necessary to spend a 1st or 2nd on a CB. I think 3rd round is a good spot to pick one, especially if we have 3 picks there. Toler looked pretty good when he stepped in for DRC and could very well take over as a starter next year. McFadden is only on a 2 year contract so picking up someone to fill that spot after he’s gone and compete with Toler is a good idea IMO. We could use better depth at CB. We could really use a tandem of great CBs. I see our secondary as 1 piece from being phenominal now.
+1
Agreed and since FA is so thin now I was hoping that piece would come from the 3rd or 4th round of the draft.
