The Cardinals were interested in trading for former Browns outside linebacker Kamerion Wimbley:
"The Arizona Cardinals were among the teams interested in trading for former Browns linebacker Kamerion Wimbley. The big holdup with them, like other teams, was Wimbley's contract. Wimbley has voided the final year of his deal through performance incentives. There are buyback provisions built in, but as things stand, 2010 is his last year under contract. The fact he can be a free agent in one year hurt his marketability. Arizona coach Ken Whisenhunt did not want to give up a high draft pick for Wimbley without a longer-term deal in place."
I would've loved this trade if a long term deal could've happened. Two things come to mind - 1st: Why are the Cardinals targeting so many former Browns? 2nd: Was Wimbley the first choice instead of Porter?

Wow, he'd have been a great pick up
But it’s easy to understand not wanting to give up a high pick for someone who could want to “make a splash” next year.
Section 102, Row 18
Makes you wonder what other deals we haven't heard a peep of.
Probably a bunch. Pursuing parallel courses to achieve the same end is a wise course of action. Better to work both at the same time than lose your chance on one. We saw a similar situation with Anderson and Whitehurst. It does also make you wonder if the Cards do have a connection over in Cleveland or if it’s entirely coincidence.
Guesses
to the questions you posed. I’m thinking the Cleveland connection comes from having coached against them so long while he was at Pitt, the familiarity he has with them probably leaves little doubt in his mind as to how they’ll perform.
Wimbley, for the right price, probably was option #1. He’s younger than Porter so in theory should be coming into the prime of his career. More often than not, the perceived value tends to be the determining factor of who gets kept/traded for/signed over those who don’t. Case in point, Leonard Davis. The F.O. conceded they liked his peformance, but that it still didn’t match what he would have gotten paid to stay. I’m thinking it was the same deal with Wimbley and Porter, obviously with Porter being considered the better deal for the performance he’ll likely bring.
Pick one more up?
While we’re picking up Browns players, can we go ahead and get Josh Cribbs?
I wish
But he already signed an extension
What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.
