Cardinals acquire Rhodes

The Cardinals have stopped the bleeding and have replaced Rolle with safety Kerry Rhodes. The Cardinals traded one of their 4th round 2010 picks and a 2011 7th round pick for Rhodes. It isn't official yet, but is being reported on the Cardinals website. Do you think Rhodes is a good pick up? Are we upgrading, downgrading, or staying the same?

Rhodes is only 25 right?

And he’s already been to a pro bowl! Hard hitting safety! I’m super stoked jumping up and down at work right now!!!

He's 27. Same age as Rolle.

Great trade, though.

When I get sad, I stop being sad and be awesome again. True story.

He hasn’t been to the Pro Bowl, but he should have been in 2006 and 2007. John Lynch made it on reputation.

He is. The last two years have been disappointing, but when he’s at his best, he’s one of the best in the league. A benching this year seemed to light a fire under him as he finished the year on a strong note.

For being a non factor

in Rex Ryan’s otherwise fearsome defense.

He has made the All-Pro team though......

love the move. thank you front office

We gave up little for him too

What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

+1

1 of our 2 4th round picks this year and a 2011 7th round for a pro bowl safety! Awesome deal!

Let the healing

begin. Welcome aboard Kerry Rhodes!

feeling good tonight (always the optimist)

Rolle might be more able to make big plays but Rhodes is a more solid/steady player at that position.
It’ll enable A-Dub to be more of a rover and blitzer (his strengths). rather than a coverage guy because Rolle was always gambling.
 NFL network commenting about Rhodes
that The Cards DB coach (don’t remember the name) was with the Jets when Rhodes was drafted. That it was part of his "comfort factor" and got the "best production" from him.

Very happy with this move.

by Cuckoo for Coco Puffs on Mar 6, 2010 6:06 PM MST reply actions

Great deal!

Basically, they gave up one of the picks from the Boldin trade and a 7th rounder next year for a Safety that might be better than Rolle.

Lifelong Arizona Cardinals/Chicago Bears fan.

I can't stand fair-weather/bandwagon fans, stick with your team, throughout the good and the bad.

You guys got a steal here. Rhodes has been disappointing the past two years, but he’s a talented guy. I’m sure he’ll be motivated and have a big year.

classy, that the editor-in-chief of gang green rang in, thanks for the feedback!

WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS THE FINANCIALS…..Rolle got what like 8 million/year, lost him without compensation. Rhodes cost a 3rd + 7th, but if he makes only 5 million/yr, I’d say its a great deal. But if he makes like 7m/yr then not so much.

by durst on Mar 6, 2010 7:01 PM MST up reply actions

We only gave up a 4th and next year's 7th

We got a good deal.

What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

How can you say getting a 4th round pick right before his roster bonus kicks in

is disappointing, for a guy, who, by your own admission, has been a disappointment for two years now?

Deal was a Steal

We got him for little and he is signed though 2013, plus I can live with his contract versus what Rolle was looking to get.

I know he had a bit of a rough year, but this will definitely help fill the void at safety.

Nice move!

I think I did hear yesterday that they were going to go for Rhodes too.

Definitely not a bad consolation prize...

Rolle’s good, I don’t think he’s worth that contract that he got. Rhodes should be able to get back to his old good-self, since he’ll probably step right in and he has no one in serious threat to take his starting job. The change of scenery will help Rhodes, he’s still young.

Also, Karlos Dansby never made a pro-bowl…

by FitzCrackers on Mar 6, 2010 7:06 PM MST reply actions

I thought he was older

And that was my biggest concern but Go Cards and the front office. Even if this move doesn’t work out at leads it shows they are willing to make a trade to help the team

Remember no matter where you go in life...there you are!

by McCards010 on Mar 6, 2010 7:10 PM MST reply actions

i think its a great move

We basically got the same player for less money. This us a great move by our fo and it puts us in a great defensive secondary position for another 3 years.

We all bleed Cardinal Red, but most of us don't recognize it!

by robloosli on Mar 6, 2010 7:38 PM MST via mobile reply actions

Better numbers

Look at rhodes numbers compared to rolles. Rhodes played in 5 less games and still had better numbers than rolle.

He also is a huge upgrade at pass defense.

I am very happy with this pick and his contract is up in 4 years at an average of 2.8 million a year. Which is so much better than rolles.

by card-deville on Mar 6, 2010 8:05 PM MST reply actions

So we basically traded...

Q, a 5th this year and a 7th next year for Rhodes and a 3rd this year. This is a great deal for us especially when you take into account the compensatory pick we’ll prob get this year (possible 5th) and the two we should get next year (possibly two 3rds) if we don’t make any major FA pick ups this year. Who couldn’t be happy with this?

Life's too short. Be a fan. Orlando Magic, Arizona Cardinals,Tampa Bay Rays and of course "the U"! What a winning combo.

by hevchv on Mar 6, 2010 8:17 PM MST via mobile reply actions

I always liked Rhodes and hope he does well for you,

but this is in no way an upgrade over Antrelle Rolle. I live in Arizona, and watched every Cardinal game, and Rolle is better, trust me. Maybe this will be a wakeup call for Kerry, but after 2 outstanding seasons, he turned Hollywood on us after making his money. He seemed more worried about messing up his pretty GQ face then he did about actually hitting anybody. Hope he does well for you, but I was ready to cut the guy loose, so I’ll gladly take a 4th for him.

I felt we got him too cheap

So, he went prima dona on you guys. I would want this butt out too. Hopefully playing with A-dub will get him to step up his game. Could be a fearsome combo.

They are who we thought they were!

A Band-Aid for Massive Head Wound

So signing Rhodes is making all of Bird Nation a little happier today? After the massive defections you guys just experienced, getting a ‘name’ player sounds nice in principle.

Sorry but you just got a player that has lost a bit of his shine in the past 2 years. NY press used to love the guy – inflating his ego — but after playing #2 fiddle to Revis in the media and being pushed by Leonard’s play he began to sulk.

As he is not going to be the BMOC because of Adrian Wilson. It will be interesting to see if his new found humility turns his play around. Good luck Birds.

by greatNamathsghost on Mar 7, 2010 7:28 AM MST reply actions

Lost a little bit

And still put up the same numbers as Rolle. Sure numbers aren’t everything but I will take it.
He will be playing with a fiery DB coach, Fitz and Wilson. Hopefully those guys will keep him inline.

They are who we thought they were!

Top 7 Safeties in the NFL June 4, 2009 by Andy Benoit

i’ve never heard of this guy so take for what it’s worth. if nothing else it sounds promising for the cards in 2010 and beyond! obviously a-dub is the man!

7. Quintin Mikell, Eagles

The reason Philly felt okay letting future Hall of Famer Brian Dawkins go.

6. Nick Collins, Packers

Has gotten better in each of his first four seasons. Seven picks sent him to Hawaii last year.

5. Kerry Rhodes, Jets

Versatility and leadership make him critical to New York’s secondary.

4. Adrian Wilson, Cardinals

The NFC’s most effective DB near the line of scrimmage.

3. Ed Reed, Ravens

Arguably the best ball hawk in NFL history. A bit shaky as a tackler, though.

2. Bob Sanders, Colts

Pretty simple: the Colts D is good with him and mediocre without him.

1. Troy Polamalu, Steelers

A feared run-defender who also had seven interceptions in his second Super Bowl season.
