Linebacker Larry Foote is seeking a deal similar to what Scott Fujita received from the Browns(3 years, $14 million, $8 million guaranteed).
Maybe we shouldn't be so sure he'll become a Cardinal. Foote is also drawing interest from Washington and Pittsburgh.

More than I expected
But I’d still go for him.
Lifelong Arizona Cardinals/Chicago Bears fan.
I can't stand fair-weather/bandwagon fans, stick with your team, throughout the good and the bad.
I would too, only because he is an ILB
But if we get him, no Porter. Or vice versa.
They are who we thought they were!
Porter might be availble for cheaper, but Foote might still be able to produce at some level for all 3 years – still 6 mil a year…

Haha! My bad, combined the 14 and 8 in my head to 18…

Damn, I thought we'd be good for at least one thing

one thing to remember......
While I think Foote is clearly a better LB in my mind, especially in a 3-4 defense, the market for starting LB’s is drying up. There aren’t many teams looking for a starting linebacker and Foote is going to find that out if he’s willing to hold out for 4.6 mil a year.
The Skins might be the only other team who would be willing to immediately hand him a starting job, but the Cards hold all of the intangibles. We’re certainly a better team (ie more likely to be in the playoffs next year) and we’ve got all of the old Steeler-acquaintances for him to snuggle up to. I really think once he gets in here, he never leaves. He may not get exactly the money he’s looking for but if we can offer something like 3 years for 12 million and about half of it guaranteed, I think he’ll sign.

Good enough deal
considering Karlos, got $18, i think, i think, for th last 2 years.
15 over three, 8 guaranteed, doesnt seem too bad, def a lot less than Karlos.
I say do it.

I want one or the other but not both
I really think there’s only enough room for one more OLD GUY in our starting D. If our young talent pans out at all, Foote & Porter should be relegated rather quickly to back-up/situational roles, and neither are going to want that kind of money. I’d like Weatherspoon and no Foote… or an NT and no Porter.
Think about how many OLB’s we would have: Porter, Haggans, Brown, Davis, Baggs, Washington (remember, Urb keeps saying how the team is really excited about Wash). They can’t all play OLB…
How many of those guys you just listed would be considered even an average starting OLB in this league?
- Haggans is probably borderline in most books but five sacks from a starting OLB in a 3-4 is well below average.
- Brown is complete unknown. He’ll basically be a rookie but probably has the potential to be just as good as Haggans.
- Davis showed some decent flashes last year but his contributions were limited to rushing the passer. I could see him being a below average starter or just above average situational pass rusher.
- Baggs is an even bigger unknown. Does success in the CFL translate to the NFL? Your guess is probably as good as mine.
- Washington is in the same boat as Baggs. So he impressed coaches while on the practice squad, so what? At best he could be a backup this coming season.
All that adds up to more question marks than answers. Haggans is the best we have and he’s average at best. Right now we have quantity over quality. Porter, despite his age, would be our best OLB and by far the best threat coming off the edge.

to be fair
Cameron Wake was fantastic for the Dolphins, he came from the CFL.
fantastic as a situational pass rusher though
He didn’t start a game until the regular season finale and his overall stats suggest that he did very little outside of rushing the passer (23 tackles, 5.5 sacks). Those stats look very Bertrand Berry-esque which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but I don’t think the Phins asked him to do much more than rush the passer.

Isn't that what Porter brings at this point in his career?
I guess my biggest problem is that having a glut at the position limits our ability to evaluate them in actual game time and find out who can step up.
Porter's not the player he was when he was in Pitt
but I think he’d be the best and most complete OLB we would have on the roster next year.
