If Jason Wright does not qualify, Arizona will receive a comp pick for Antonio Smith in either the third round or fourth round, most likely in the third, after Cincinnati's comp pick for T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

wait so we get comp picks based on last year's free agents?

that means we don’t get anything for losing dansby this year?

it all depends

If we get a comp pick for Dansby it’ll be next year. If we do sign guys like Foote and/or Porter though they’ll cancel each other out and we won’t get squat.

Be careful....to a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

So your saying we may get a extra 3th round pick this year for losing Antonio Smith last year to FA?

Awesome

We have the potential to have Three 3rd round picks!? You know what other team has had success by stacking up 2nd and 3rd round picks?… New England Patriots come to mind!?

If that's true,

then that’s pretty awesome. Even if it’s a 4th, that’d essentially be getting Rhodes “for free”, if you will.

Also,

are we a lock for 2 extra 3rds next off-season, or what?!

by Chg91 on Mar 10, 2010 2:18 AM MST up reply actions

not necessarily

Rolle doesn’t count as a FA lost. Dansby does of course but we’re also supposedly looking at Foote and Porter. Either of those guys would cancel out Dansby. Other guys like Bryan Robinson, Anthony Becht, BSP etc could effect the numbers but it would depend on how much they sign for and what kind of role they play on their new team.

Almost like that

Giving up our ‘regular’ 4th round pick for Rhodes and receiving a pick at the end of th end of the round, perhaps behind several other teams compensatory picks

Section 135, Row 35

by AJ BirdWatcher on Mar 10, 2010 3:22 PM MST up reply actions

Most likely we won't get anything

If you read the article you’ll find that he expects Wright to count. His 2009 salary was higher than the cheapest player to qualify for a pick last year.
The quoted part is just to make sure he said it if somehow they choose to disqualify Wright
So don’t get too high on this

If they hadn’t signed Wright, however, we would’ve got a third og fourth. Do you think they ever think about that when manouvering in free agency? Will the player we sign now be worth the third rounder (DansbY) we will lose next year?

We are red, we are white, we are Danish Dynamite!

If they don't, they should probably start

I’m sure NE does. They got like 7 comp picks last year.
