Revenge Of The Birds Community Mock Draft: 22nd Pick, New England Patriots

With the 22nd pick of the Revenge of the Birds community mock draft, the New England Patriots select...

Sergio Kindle | OLB | Texas

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

GM: hadrarius

Strengths:   Explosive speed, quick initial burst and closes fast.  Ran 4.64 40 at combine.  Great agility.  Good lateral movement.   Pursues well.  A violent hitter and powerful tackler.  Versatile, played both OLB and DE in college.  Has the strength to bull rush but relies primarily on speed.  Capable when dropping in coverage.  Long arms.  Prototypical size for OLB.

Weaknesses: Off field issues are the main concern with Kindle. How well he interviewed will be a key factor in when he goes.   Has had some inconsistent production and minor durability issues.  Has some difficulty shedding blocks.  Struggles in tight spaces. Needs to develop a wider array of rush moves.  Sometimes late to react to change of direction.

Why the Patriots will draft him:  The Patriots need to revamp their defensive front seven.  I have them start that process by taking what may well be the best all around OLB prospect in this draft.  Kindle possesses the skills to become a double digit sack artist along with the ability to cover in space.  He’s also a capable run stopper.  He has the size and speed Belichick looks for at the position.  Kindle has become a leader for the Longhorns both on and off the field.  The quality of leadership, or the lack of it, has become a thorn the ownership has stressed needs correcting.   RDE is another front seven position that needs improvement, and Belichick likes taking DL in the first.  Many mocks have Jared Odrick  going here but there are some scouts that doubt his ability to play DE in the 3-4. Belichick and co. are primed with 4 picks in the first two rounds, #s 22, 44, 47, and 53, with a total of  12 overall.  This gives them great flexibility to match need with value and not have to reach at all.  With round two taking place on the second day it should turn out to be much like round one all over again.  Holding 3 second round picks (but no 3rd or 5th round picks) the Pats will likely trade at least one of them down.

Big thanks to hadrarius for making this pick. That move did put the notliketheboardgame on the clock with the Packers pick but I haven't heard from him. If anyone wants to pick for the Packers post a comment below and the first to post can have it. Robloosli is on deck with Philadelphia's pick. Please send your picks to revengeofthebirds@gmail.com. The remaining picks are after the jump...

Perfect fit for the Belicheck system.

I could see the going with Odrick to replace Richard Seymour here as well but can’t go wrong with this pick either.

I sent you an email Pyro

What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

They could easily go either way.

They could also take someone like Kindle’s teammate at Texas, Lamar Houston, in the 2nd instead of Odrick. Similar in size but stronger.

Ricky Sapp is an OLB prospect that supposedly they are high on. That may just be said because of his size/speed which fit the Belichick guide. He should go in the 2nd.

WR is also spotty for them with Welker out with injury, an older Moss entering the last year of his contract and no real #3 to step up. Someone like Tate or Thomas should be an early choice. Maybe Gresham or Gronkowski too.

All could be choices with the 3 mid 2nd round picks they have.

They definitely will have to either replace the loss of Welker or Watson with one of those picks.

I have a feeling they'll have a good draft.
