Revenge Of The Birds Community Mock Draft: 23rd Pick, Green Bay Packers

Note: Look out for the featured poll on the right side of the home page. I'll have the choices for the Cardinals selection. When their pick comes, the player with the most votes will be the Cardinals 1st round draft pick.

With the 23rd pick of the Revenge of the Birds community mock draft, the Green Bay Packers select...

Jason Pierre-Paul | Defensive End | South Florida

GM: notliketheboardgame

Strengths: Supremely gifted athletically. At 6'5 and 260 pounds, is big enough to play outside linebacker. Ran a 4.64 at the combine and that back flip competition where he does 16 or so back flips in a row proves it. He is coachable. Non-stop motor. Solid to good tackler. With more coaching could become a multiple pro bowler. Athletic enough to play in coverage.

Weaknesses: VERY RAW. He only play a half a season of FBS level collegiate football and didn't produce all that much with the elevated talent level. Many don't know which position to put him at (4-3 end or 3-4 outside linebacker). Could be considered a workout warrior which scares some teams away. Never been in coverage before.

Why the Packers will draft him: They have one other pressing need which is offensive tackle. But the Packers would be drafting need not value if they went with Charles Brown who was my other choice. Brown would fit the zone blocking scheme of the Packers, but Ted Thompson has gone with value over need and I think that continues with Jason Pierre-Paul who is a top ten pick in many people's opinion. Brad Jones filled in admirably for the injured and somewhat miscast Aaron Kampman for the Pack at outside linebacker, but is he necessarily a good enough linebacker to be starting in a 3-4 for any NFL team? There season ended with Kurt Warner feeling comfortable in the pocket and throwing all over their secondary and the middle of their defense exposing their lack of a pass rush. I think that any team at this point, still in conversion stage of their defense, would love to have the talent and potential JPP gives. If coached properly he has the ability to become a hall of famer in my opinion.

Thanks to notliketheboardgame for making this pick. That puts robloosli on the clock with the Philadelphia Eagles pick and Skii on deck with Baltimore. Please email me at revengeofthebirds@gmail.com today. The remaining picks are after the jump...

Very raw indeed.

That’s what kept him off my short list for OLB for the Patriots. Of course, if you take his own opinion of himself, he’s the best pass rusher in the draft. A crap shoot on boom or bust.

There are 2 in this draft

I’m referring of course to boom or bust picks. One is Bruce Campbell whom I had the Bills take at 9 and then JPP. Both had off the charts workouts and have all the potential in the world… but can they turn that into onfield dominance?

I don't know...

I kind of agree with pcock on this one. He has “potential bust” written all over him. He wasn’t considered a first round pick until after his combine workouts. Those are the type of players I would like to stay away from.
