Revenge Of The Birds Community Mock Draft: 26th Pick, Arizona Cardinals

Photo

With the 26th pick of the Revenge of the Birds community mock draft, the Arizona Cardinals select...

Dan Williams | Defensive Tackle | Tennessee

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

GM: ROTB community

This write up came from rockytoptalk.com

Strengths:  Dan Williams is a huge, strong guy with a low center of gravity who can really clog up the middle of the line of scrimmage. He's fairly versatile as well, though, as he's often seen far away from his starting point when the play ends, whether that's along one of the sidelines chasing a scrambling quarterback or a screening receiver or 15 yards down field recovering a fumble.

Weaknesses: Williams obviously doesn't have the star power (or the stats) of Nebraska's Ndamukong Suh. Weight could be a potential problem; he reported in 2005 at 360 pounds. However, he lost 30-40 pounds pretty quickly and mostly kept it off through his playing days at Tennessee, so he appears to have the discipline required to stay at a more reasonable weight for defensive tackles.

Why the Cardinals will draft Williams: When Williams was the highest rated player on the board at 26, it would've been hard to pass on him. The Cardinals need a dominant defensive tackle and that's exactly what he brings to the table. The Cardinals only have Gabe Watson signed at defensive tackle and he's rehabbing an injured need. Williams could immediately come in and start day one while solidifying that position for the next 10 years.

Thanks to everyone who voted for the Cardinals pick. That puts manderson367 on the clock with the Cowboys' pick. WhiffSD is now on deck with the Chargers pick. Please send your picks to revengeofthebirds@gmail.com. The remaining picks are after the jump...

I hope he really does fall in the real draft.

This, in my opinion, is almost as big of a steal as Beanie was last year. Not only does he fill a need but he will make the rest of the D better. By clogging up the middle, the way Alan Branch should have when he was drafted, he is making it easier for Docket, Campbell, Haggans, and Porter to get to the QB. With those guys getting at the QB, it will make DRC and the rest of the defensive backfield’s job able to keep their coverage as the QB won’t have as much time to throw the ball.

Really hope this is the guy is available at 26 on Thursday.

So do I – but I doubt he will be available. To many teams need DT who plays in the 3-4.

Him or Cody would be good as the NT.

Lifelong Arizona Cardinals/Chicago Bears fan.

I can't stand fair-weather/bandwagon fans, stick with your team, throughout the good and the bad.

Do you think

Cody would be available in round 2 if we had an earlier pick from trading down? He’s the only other true NT coming out of college IMO.

Depends on how early our 2nd pick would be.

If the Charges pass on him with their first pick (number 28) they wouldn’t do so with their 2nd pick (number 40) that they received from Seattle. Plus, the Browns, Eagles, and Chiefs have early picks and if they pass on a NT in the 1st round they all will consider one in the 2nd.

They can probably just make a gamethread thing for the Draft.

indeed there will be a draft thread

Every day for the three days

What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

Dan Williams

Would be a great, great pickup. I just don’t see him getting past Denver or Miami. And if he did I wouldn’t be surprised if San Diego traded up to get him.

They are who we thought they were!

I agree – see it the same way you do. I think you could also add Buffalo – Houston and Oakland maybe SF. Thin draft for true NT.

by lorenzothedog on Apr 18, 2010 9:23 AM MDT up reply actions

With as many teams going to the 3-4 I doubt the top rated NT makes it to 26

It would be sweet if he fell into our laps though. Terrance Cody should still be there if not. BPA on defense for the first 2 picks at least is what I’d like to see. NT, CB ILB or OLB. We’re 4 guys short of a dominating defense. Arguably Joey Porter resolves one of those spots in the short term. We’ll just have to see. If we go defense with all 4 picks in the first three rounds maybe we can score on all these points in one draft. The odds are against it but what the hey, a guy can hope.

Do you guys think he'll fall that far?

I’m just wondering, Niners fan here. One of the local beat writers just had a mock where my Niners took him at 17, and I’ve seen him going to the 49ers several times in mocks.

And then God created Saturn.. And he liked it, so he put a ring on it.

If you guys are high on him

he definitely won’t fall this far. It’s just in all our mock drafts we thought your teams needs were more CB and OL. Didn’t you guys have a player really step up his play last year at NT? Could’ve sworn I read that somewhere.

I'm really hoping this happens

and think its definitely possible. I’d like to think most people on our site are pretty football savvy, that being said most of the picks were justified I just think it will come down to the intangibles that we as fans have no real concept of. Here’s to hoping for the best.
