Update: Darren Urban spoke to Ken Whisenhunt on the matter. Whiz had this to say:

"It seems like you’d be hard-pressed to find a team that hasn’t been linked to (Roethlisberger interest)," Whisenhunt said. "At this time of year there’s no shortage of information and misinformation flying around; who teams are interested in drafting, who they’re not, who’s gonna be traded, etc. From our standpoint, it doesn’t seem to make sense to publicly comment on which rumors are fact and which are fiction but I can tell you there’s a fair amount of each."

In his weekly interview with Doug and Wolf on Sports 620 KTAR, John Clayton reported that the Cards did in fact call the Steelers about Big Ben. He did mention that he didn't know if the Cards even offered anything for Ben or if it even got that far, but just the fact that they are wondering has to make you think the Cards have some doubts that quarterback Matt Leinart can give them what they want out of the position. I personally don't think they will trade for him but you never know, crazier things have happened before.

PLEASE NOOOOO

I do not believe it shows that the Cards have doubts about Matt Leinart.

You would have to be pretty damn stupid to think that Leinart is better than Roethlisberger. It doesn’t hurt to make a phone call to the steelers to see what it would take to obtain one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL today. I do not think a trade will happen, but the fact that they were interested does not mean they do not have any faith in Leinart.

by PDXCardinal on Apr 22, 2010 10:33 AM MDT reply actions

I think it does.

At this point in Leinart’s career he is not better than Roethlisberger but he hasn’t been given the chance like Roethlisberger got with Pitt. I think Leinart could develop into a better QB but the fact that the Cardinals are looking into someone that would be a long term starter like Roethlisberger leads me to believe that there is some doubts as to Leinart’s ability to develop into that starter. never said they lost all faith in him, just saying there is some doubt there if their looking into this.

Not to mention a lucky Super Bowl throw

; )

What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

Give Matt a chance

That being said, if you hear of a 26yo, two time Super Bowl Champion QB being shopped around, you have to at least make a phone call. Unless you are totally set in stone at QB, which the Cardinals aren’t at this point.

I was wondering, "Why is that Frisbee getting bigger" and then it hit me.

Due Diligence

They have to find out what the Steelers want for him. Leinart has a lot of promise but has yet to prove himself. Anderson is just as questionable if not more so.

I don’t want Big Ben as a Cardinal. If there was schism between him and Hines Ward that’s a big red flag. Add all the other issues and he just doesn’t cut it for me. Leinart has been criticized for his leadership. Let the guy prove himself. Ben’s “leadership” has sown discord in the steeler locker room. His character is in the toilet. I don’t want guys like him or Vick representing the franchise. I’d rather lose.

+1

They have to make the call, if for no other reason than to send up smoke, but what makes it interesting is if the terms are right:

Say Matt and our late first round pick for Ben? I don’t know if I would take it based upon the character issues and what will be a 4 game suspension but I would have to think a long time about it. Ben has a long term deal in place and Matty is either going to get a new big deal or be cut after this year.

2 months ago I would have taken that deal without hesitation.

If they give up on Leinart...

then trade him for JAson Campbell. We need playaction QBs who are mobile. Campbell would be a great fit for the offense.

If they give up on Leinart

they’ll cut him at the end of the season like they did Rolle. His contract balloons in 2011.

He has one year to prove himsefl

Which is more then enough time at this point. The team is better then it’s every been.

We still hear about Matt's incident

I’m sure Steeler fans are embarrassed.

No way do we want him

Is it really that hard to not sexually abuse a woman?

I’ve never came close to finding myself in that situation, why is it so difficult for Ben? Just don’t do it.

But if it does, they have to keep him away from ASU and Mill Avenue.

Just the thought sickens me

There probably isn’t a player I dislike more than Worthlessburger even BEFORE all these secks allegations. Personally, if we’re still looking for a proven starter, I would have preferred McNabb.

Will have flashbacks of the Super Bowl every time I saw him in a Cardinal uni

Another angle to consider is a 3 way trade here.

Between the Steelers, Raiders and Cardinals we could have something like;

The Steelers get the Raiders’ 1st round pick, swap their own 1st with the Cardinals, and get the Cardinals’ extra 3rd round pick. Maybe they need a little more than a first and third to sweeten the pot and maybe not.

The Cardinals move up to the Steelers spot in the first and get Kirk Morrison from the Raiders.

The Raiders get Roethlisberger for a first and Kirk Morrison.

This isn’t any kind of prediction, just an example of a possible 3 way scenario.

I wouldn't be opposed to it. but at this point it's probably too late.

Could we get Russell from the Raiders so he can be plugged in at one of the Guard spots?
