So...

I’m no overly familiar with Simmons, anybody have much insight?

As for Brown, I’ve always thought he was an above average safety and could be a quality addition.

A decent blocker when not hurt.

He has been put on the IR three times in his career: all of 2004, most of 2008, and missed the ending of the 2009 season (played in only 4 games). He also missed part of the 2006 season to a heel injury and burns.

He would bring quality depth if they sign him but I think this is more of a precaution to Deuce Lutui not signing yet.

I've always heard good things about Brown, as well

When he isn’t injured. Looking at his stats he had one of his best years last year. 100+ comb. tackles, 2 sacks, 3 INTs. Health and age (32) are probably the only two factors that have kept him from signing anywhere until now but he did start all 16 games last year.

I guess he had some troubles in coverage with the Chiefs, which is why they didn't re-sign him

As abysmal as they are on defense, they’re probably going to Berry in the draft…

yes big coverage issues

but he did get better as the season went on. Just a little to late.

Bring Mike Brown home to the Valley!!!

Loved watching that guy tear it up in highschool.

I can't see where either one fits

we’ve already got Wilson, Rhodes, Ware, and Johnson at Safety; and Wells, Lutui, Hadnot, possibly Johnson and/or Keith at Guard. We’ve seemingly have 8 OL who are locked into place, with Claxton possibly taking spot #9.

Will be curious to see how this plays out. They’ve both played very effectively for a long time now, and would add a lot of experience and depth if they’re signed.

I think the bringing in of Simmons is only because Lutui hasn't signed his tender yet.

Graves has already said the team will probably stand pat right now until the end of the draft.

I knew if I threw

that out there I’d get an intelligent response back – good point.

Agreed on the safeties as well.

Not really sure what the point of this is as we have good depth with Wilson, Rhodes, Ware, and Johnson. The only way I saw us getting another safety this season was by a possible late draft selection.

Maybe they still aren’t comfortable with Johnson and maybe they are a little worried about Ware’s recovery from injury? Maybe it was just a favor to his agent or someone in his camp (I know this happens sometimes in pro sports).

Is Brown a FS or SS?

Life's too short. Be a fan. Orlando Magic, Arizona Cardinals,Tampa Bay Rays and of course "the U"! What a winning combo.

Going off my memory

when he was with the Bears, he’s a free safety.

by Long Beach on Apr 9, 2010 12:40 PM MDT up reply actions

Yeah free safety

I see no need for him. The starters and depth are already there so maybe the FO sees something in him that we don’t.

What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

would be an upgrade

If we sign him he would be the NO.2 FS, and SS, behind A-DUB and Rhodes, and if you think about it, if A-Dub or Rhodes goes down with an injury then he can fill in in either posistion, because quite franquely Johnson aint good, and Ware is more of a DB and special teams player, very amazing special teams player. Makes sence to me, Also having A-DUB and Brown’s physical pressence on the field together vs. Gore would be great.
