What's in a Name... Part 2?
Last season we experienced an increase in supporters from the previous year. With success comes progress and it showed with the sheer number of supporters that showed themselves. Well this year is no different. Two years ago we all came together with stories of how we fell in love with the Arizona Cardinals. They ranged from following them since they were in St. Louis, to being a true homer, to following them from different parts of the globe. I myself am from Florida. I saw one poster from Alaska and of course we have our green blooded Irish lovers. With so many new bloggers I'm again curious as to where all of your user names came from. Some of them are a play on your names, such as our very own Andrew602, or Andrew. Some are a little more inventive like hevch. For those of you who don't know, its short for Heavy Chevy, a nickname I picked up while over in Iraq. I used to lift weights a lot and all of my buddies just started calling me Heavy Chevy and it stuck. But what about the rest of you? What does your name mean?
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Revenge of the Birds' (ROTB) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of ROTB's editors.

What's in a name
I chose jetstreamgreen81 to describe my favorite Cardinal growing up Roy ‘Jetstream’
Green. #81 and a great WR. He held the record for the longest kickoff return of 106 yards until the last several years and when he broken into the league, he played CB as well as WR. WR is my favorite position so naturally, he was my favorite player and I was glad Q got his # to represent it. I also hate the Cowboys,Redskins and Fortyniners growing up a Cards fan and playing in the NFC East. Glad we are in the West and ready for the Cards to repeat again as division champs for the 3rd year in a row.

For some reason I thought you were a Jets fan
Glad you cleared that up
What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

Thanks again, Hev, for your contributions both overseas and here on the site
I for one, would like to promote posters to take it a step further like above and mention where you are from, currently reside, or both. I find it interesting the various places represented by Cardinals fans across the globe.
AJ’s not my name, just stands for the town I grew up in, Apache Junction, AZ. Birdwatcher doesn’t really mean anything, just some lame screenname I picked when I joined the site 2 years ago. Only been a fan for about 5 years, since that’s when I got into football.
I’m finally back in the desert after construction projects in New Mexico and Utah over the last 5 years.

Thanks AJ.
Everyone contributes in their own way. Mine just happened to be over there. Just glad me and all my fellow soldiers made it back alive. Not all in one piece, but well nontheless. Thanks again.
Life's too short. Be a fan. Orlando Magic, Arizona Cardinals,Tampa Bay Rays and of course "the U"! What a winning combo.
I was born and raised in Orlando so by default I became a Bucs fan.
I started watching the Cards in high school when they drafted Aeneas Williams. I even tried to tailor my game after him. When the expansion came around I became a Panthers fan, but after a few years went back to the Cards when they beat the Vikes and knocked them out of the playoff hunt. Not to mention “show me the money” kinda put them back on the map for me.Been a fan since then. AND PROUD OF IT.

Wasn't feeling too original
when I chose my name. I was surprised to find this site when I came across it (like most I’m sure there were times when we figured we roamed the planet alone as self-proclaimed Cardinals fans), and wanted to interact with the topics being discussed to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating. Anyways, I figured most of the team related names would be taken so I picked the city I live in to avoid going through the whole, “this name is taken routine.”
I was born and raised in Oregon, which as everyone knows doesn’t have an NFL team. After high school I joined the USAF and was stationed at Luke AFB so I adopted the Cards as my new favorite team since it was the first city/metro area I lived in that had one. As noted above/in the name, I now live in Long Beach, CA. (Real name is Mike Ellingboe).
+1
I did feel like I was the only Card fan in CA for about, forever.

I don't know a single Cardinal fan in my day to day and was shocked when I went to a local sports bar back in '07 and met one. Buzz is still the only person I've met in person that's a Cards fan also and he lived in AZ - just up for business.
There are many more after the last couple years

McCards010
Last names McGarry so it only seemed fitting to become McCards010 and the 010 if from my work ID I was born and raised in Southern California. Its a funny story on how I became a Cards fan it all started when I was 2 or 3 my dad was a die hard Bears fan and so was I simply because he was then one day I decided “No I want to be different so he showed me all the helmets and said I could pick any team I wanted but who ever I chose I had to stick with for the rest of my life” (Ya that’s a lot of pressure to put on a 3 year old.) So I chose the Big Red Bird and stuck with em ever since.

I think that one is easy to figure out.
I’ve been a Cardinals fan all my life. I always rooted for the home team even when most of the games were blacked out and they were just looking awful. And like my sig says I also grew up liking the Bears because of my dad who was born in Chicago. The Cardinals are still the team I’m 100% loyal to though.
Lifelong Arizona Cardinals/Chicago Bears fan [I have always lived in Arizona, dad is from Chicago].
I can't stand fair-weather/bandwagon fans, stick with your team, throughout the good and the bad. And don't switch to whichever team wins the Super Bowl each year.

I would love to see a Cardinals/Bears NFC Championship game at UoP. And of course I would be rooting for the Cardinals in that one.

I'm very unoriginal

We all bleed Cardinal Red, but most of us don't recognize it!
No problem.

AlaskanCard
Surprise surprise, I was born and raised in Alaska. I started becoming interested in sports in 1993 when I was 7, my family took a trip to AZ to visit family right at the time the Suns were playing the Bulls in the finals. Of course everyone was rooting for the Suns, so I did too. Once football season rolled around, hey Arizona has a football team! So I rooted for them too. 17 years later everyone still asks me why an Alaskan would root for the Cardinals. Everyone up there is a Seahawks, 49ers, and Cowboys fan (it’s a pretty terrible place to live for a Cardinals fan). To this day I think I’ve only ever seen three other people wearing Cardinals jerseys in Alaska. Unfortunately I’ve left the state I love and am currently living in Florida, which is way too ridiculously hot, but I’m still proud to be THE Alaskan Cardinals fan.

az78true is just arizona abbreviated, the year of my birth and a profession that I'm a "true" fan of the Cardinals.
It was ‘95 the year after the Cows won back to back SB’s that I became a fan of the Cardinals. I was born in Cleveland and 95% of family are Browns fans through and through. So with that, I started at age 6 watching the Brownies in all their glory and their infamous meltdowns until ‘91. I never was a Browns fan per say but a fan of football growing up in a Browns family. ’91 through ’94 I was just a fan of the game of football and in ’95 I said to myself it was time to pick my own team to stick with as a fan. So I bought a NFL preseason magazine with all the updated rosters and such and went through it cover to cover dozens of times. I ultimately decided on the Cardinals(as I am sure you guessed) for a ton of reasons but if I had to choose one it would be either Frank Sanders or Larry Centers. I had watched highlights/bits of games of Rob Moore, Frank, LC, Hearst, A. Williams, K. Lassiter, J. Miller, E. Swann etc. and enjoyed what I saw as well as believed they were an up and coming team. I have to go off topic a bit and say LC is one of if not the most underrated and under appreciated FB’s of all time IMHO. Anyway, that’s my accounting for my following of the AZ Cardinals.
hevchv just wanted to say I most certainly appreciate the sacrifices you and your fellow soldiers have made/are making for myself and all of us as citizens of the U.S.
Thanks true

In the begining
I was a 49ers fan until 94 when my pops friend invited us to a game it was in the hot asu stadium and it was awesome being my first live game I loved it then in 95 we got season tickets and I have been becoming more and more die hard every year since. The name DaCards comes from the ditka sketch on SNL love me some SNL (saturday night live) but not a big bears fan so that’s how I got my name I think it was 2 years ago I started on this site it was before the SB run for sure

Good post Hev
Almost forget about this. Guess we should make this a yearly offseason tradition.
Well as for me, I’m born and raised in Arizona. I actually wasn’t a big Cardinals fan growing up considering they rarely won. The big thing that won me over was the signing of Emmitt Smith in 2003. Although he never did much here, I can say I’m glad he did join otherwise I dont know if we’d be having this conversation. The cherry on top was the win against the Vikings in 2003(one of my favorites). Something took over and I became a hardcore fanatic. I’m probably the only one of my friends/family/coworkers that knows every last thing about the Cardinals. Anytime I see an item with a Cardinals logo on it, I must buy it. Regardless of what it is. My car is Cardinal’d out, my girlfriend(who never thought she’d be a fan loves the team now), I’ve gotten a Cardinal bird shaved on my head, my kids will be Cardinal fans, I am very close to getting the bird tattoo’d on my arm, and I’ll be hardcore for the rest of my life.
As for my name, it’s Andrew, and my area code is 602. Pretty simple. I found this site halfway through the 2008 season, began writing fanposts on my own, was added as a writer, and as most of you know, took over last season.
Maybe we should do some more “get to know you” posts before the season starts.

ksredbird cause I am from Kansas and a redbirds fan. I hate to admit it but had alot of Dallas and San Fran gear growin up. That was way before i discovered Jerry Jones’ plot to take over the universe and before the niners were in our division. No cards fans around that I know of. Lots and lots of chief fans. I became a Cardinals fan when we drafted Jake. My most prized posession was a reversable 16 jersey. I even wore that thing to picture day in 6th grade wich was the only day we didn’t have to wear our school uniforms. This year will be the first that i get to see us play a regular season game live. I also have a new prized possesion that i just got today. A black A-Dub jersey. It is f’ing awesome.

24 because I was pretty high up on Adrian Wilson when I joined ROTB. I had just got back from NYC and while waiting in the terminal for our plane back home to PHX I met Adrian Wilson and his wife. Pretty sweet considering there were about 10 ‘bandwagon’ fans wearing Cardinals shirts/jerseys and I was the only person that recognized him. Nice guy. Still have my signed boarding pass :D

yeah. He’s freakin huge. His bicep is the size of my thigh. Really quiet demeanor but very polite. He didn’t give anyone else an autograph either because he wanted to keep a low profile but when I approached him I was as polite as possible since he was obviously on vacation and he obliged.

Im from Virginia, and I was a St.Louis Ram fan because that was the name of my school team. But i was young and only watched football with my dad, but I could name all of the Rams starters and scores of the games, and liking the Rams is also how i gained my hatred for the Patriots. But my dad around 2005 and i started not watching football. Then i really got into footbal when i started playing with my friends every Saturday, and to find out the Cards are getting Kurt, so im like omg i want to see him do what he did wih the Rams and do it with the Cards. And i fell in love with the cards around 2007 and now im sticking with my Cards unless Warner comes back ahaha. j/p

Was the worst time I have had over here I am back again now but its nothing today like it was in the early days of 2004 when we had tents with no AC and MKT’s bringing mermited chow from other bases (didnt have to worry about it getting cold) I can remember our digital thermometer would always stop at 135 and it was usually by 11am. I am not a Cards Fan nor will I ever be but I am a LOYAL 49ers fan who grew up 1.5 hours from Candlestick and have been to some very good games in my life. I respect anyone who is a true fan of there team and actually knows something about football. I follow this site because its better to follow and know your enemy then to be suprised I give my wife a pass on this because she says she is a Seahawks fan but doesnt know anything about them (I know more) but she puts up with my NFL Sunday ticket each year so she has earned the pass. Nice to be proud of your team, even when they are down (we Cards fans have had lots of practice). I’m absolutey loving the rivalry we have developed and it’s nice to run into fans of the 9ers here that aren’t all about the random (and mostly thoughtless) Cards bashing.

I grew up in Brooklyn NY
In1974 when I was 10 years old, all the kids on the block were Giants or Cowboys fans. In the early 70’s, with Don Coryell as coach and my favorite player—Terry Metcalf—I picked the Cards. They were on TV here in NY twice against the Giants. They usually got a Monday night or two and even Thanksgiving against the Cowboys.
Throughout the years, I’ve been tortured by my friends over how bad they’ve been—but I never changed my allegance. I start every year optimistic that this is going to be the year.
Finding RotB in the last couple of years has been great. Being able to share the good times with other Cardinal fans (impossible to find in NY) is priceless.

I’m one of the only Cardinals fans in Denmark, I guess. (I once saw two more on a Danish NFL debate forum) About four years ago one of my best friends in high school wanted someone to share his passion for the game with. He thought the best way to get me caught was to hook me up with a team. He is a Rams fan since the Warner days and he thought it could be fun if our teams met twice a year. He told med that the Cardinals were a young offensive minded promising team. He forgot to tell me about the history but I’ll forgive him easily …

My surname is Cianci and I’m a huge fan of Breaston, even though he’s not returning kicks anymore.
My story is not as interesting as the ones posted before but here it goes.
I’m brazillian, born and raised in Rio. During 2006 my soccer team (Vasco da Gama) wasn’t doing very well, so I decided to look for another sport to watch. Entered wikipedia, saw the emblems of the teams and decided to choose the Red Bird. After choosing, I discovered that it was from Arizona, the same State that hosts my favorite basketball team, the Suns. After the first game, I knew that I had found one of my greatests passions. Even though I read ROTB thrice a day, I never had an account because of my little knowledge (Brazil REALLY is a soccer country), so I’m here just to learn from you guys and to share the love for this Squad. GO CARDS!

What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

Nickname
My name is Robert so some friends started to call me Handsome Rob after the when the new Italian Job came out . Then a friend decided that since I went by the first part of my name— Rob— they could also call me by the last part of my first name — Bert. Thus, they all decided to put the two together. Handsome Bert
Welcome to ROTB Rob

Disappointing turnout so far on this thread...
I know there has to be tons more posters than this, whether regulars or otherwise.
Section 135, Row 35
There are many lurkers out there reading this very sentence
But you’re right. I’ll put together a similar post closer to the season and I’m sure we’ll get a better turnout.

Revenge of the Birds
Been a fan since...
Larry Wilson was terrorizing opposing offenses and Johnny Roland was a Pro-Bowl RB. The name is Tim Taylor, hence the toolman moniker.
Mine is Terrence Taylor

Revenge of the Birds
This place has become a second home to me.
Just to be able to read from everyone else how I already feel is a great thing.

Manphibian
Started using it for various logins years ago, just a nickname Chali 2na uses for himself in a song or two, I thought it was cool sounding and I hadn’t seen anyone else using it. No personal meaning or connection to the Cards.
As for myself, I am an Arizona native, lifelong diehard fan of all the local teams
name has nothing to do with football
grew up in canada, wrecked knee at 17 playing football, lost interest because it was too painful to watch, shared apt in college with 3 other guys, 1 of whom won Canadian version of the Heisman … and I only went to see him play twice, I think that’s why he liked me.. he knew I wasn’t suckin up..
worked/lived for years in US, never in a city with a team, but interest in football was re-igniting, moved to Phoenix in 93 and as I stepped off plane, thought, yahoo, this city has a football team and have been a fan (as painful as that was) ever since
found this site about a year ? ago and was impressed at the commitment shown, even if I don’t agree sometimes
please excuse the occaisional rant, I just don’t think I can go thru that first 14 years again..
SCSA is Star Crest Skydiver Award … 2 people hold a hulu hoop and 8 others have to fly through it and create a formation on the other side… so I was 69th to do this and that is always a good number to have
Cool
I’ve only been skydiving once so that sounds difficult.

thx ... it was
yeah… it was way cool way back when (and hard and still is, just fell out of fashion to do it ) ..but if you jumped (in ‘olden’ times you jumped), once you are a brother .. thousands or just 1, if you did it, you are one of us .. I like yer moniker .. if I ever move I am stuck with these guys now .. and I hated Leinart because I hated USC, but I think he is going to do it… I think the Cards shock the world .. again (when will they learn ?)
mine is easy
born in AZ, favorite team cardinals, Area code 480. AZcardinals480. plusbthats the one I have on NFL network.
We love proving people wrong Three Years as NFC West Champs!
Pretty self explanitory...
…except I no longer am stuck in Colorado, my wife and I moved to Ohio this past winter. It is not that we did not love living in Colorado (although I sure had my fill of spoiled Bronco fans), but I was “stuck” in a job that I could not stand with crazy hours. After looking for over a year, I was able to land a new job in Cincinnati that I can again, take pride in and enjoy going to each day.

Superfizzogotflow
My name comes from high school when my fiend decided that snoop dogg and his for shizzle my nizzle and the bizzle and everything had to have the double z was awesome. So with my last name being ferrin i became fizzerin which was shortened to fizzo. A year later one of my buddies made me an action figure out of paper machette that i could hang from my trunk and named him superfizzo. I drove around for an entire year with that thing hanging out of my trunk it was awesome. Then one day i was driving down the road and i hear the car next to me blasting this song called Fizzo got Flow. so i did my research and found it was sang by b2k and i officially had a ring tone and a theme song.
I was always the one in my group of friends growing up that loved the cardinals. my 2 best friends growing up have always been niners fanboys so it’s been good shoving it in their face the past couple of years. It’s kind of funny, the older i get the more i realize how lame 49ers fanboys are and do my best to separate myself from them.
