8-19-10: Arizona Cardinals Bird Droppings
Some quick links for all of you guys. Nothing big, but just some stuff to read.
Derek Anderson a mixed bag: Sure looked like 09 Derek instead of the 07 Derek that some people were expecting...
Judging Preseason Practice: Some more notes from last night.
Leinart Balances Football and Fatherhood: Video from AZCardinals.com. It was also shown before the first Preseason game.
Doucet to rest: Slim chance that he will play next Monday because of an Abdomen injury. This will give some of the UDFAs a chance to play against the 1s and the 2s.
Definition of a Team: Looks like everyone enjoyed this link when I posted it yesterday.
Critics out in full force: Don't they know now that saying they suck just encourages them to play better?
Defense has the edge: Knowing the system the offense uses and all of their calls really helps.
Cardinals sick of Favre: Who isn't?
When Leinart replaced a "Mistake Prone QB": A look at the game recap from Leinarts first start in 2006 against the Chiefs.
Time for Leinart to push back:
Depending on how many stories come out, I might psot a new one of these tomorrow. If not I'll probably just wait until Sunday before the Titans game.

Found this on the Cardinals message board responding to what Dilfer said in one of the links.
“LOL Wolfley is breaking down Dilfer’s #‘s as a player on the radio right now. Said he only completed 55% of his passes in his career, 129 picks, more picks than touchdowns. 70.2 career QB rating. He’s asking, how much “presence” did Dilfer have?
LOL, it’s painful."

I can't stand fair-weather/bandwagon fans, stick with your team, throughout the good and the bad. And don't switch to whichever team wins the Super Bowl each year.
Always kills me that he's an "expert"
He won a ring by playing with one of the all time great defenses and not screwing up to badly! For a career he sucked.

Cris Carter will always take the WR viewpoint and blame the QB.
Seen him do it too many times calling games no matter who was to blame for a bad play it was never the WR, always the QB. No surprise at all that he’s openly laying blame on Leinart and all but putting words in Fitz’s mouth.
Ok, my mistake. It's been pointed out that I've confused Carter with Collinsworth.
Just sounds so much like a comment he would make I automatically registered his image in my head. Damn alliteration messing with my mind.
If hear or read anymore of this crap.....
about how Leinart hung Fitz out to dry on that pass, I think the capillaries in my eyes are going to explode. If you watch the play, Fitz’ left foot is actually still touching the ground as he catches the ball, so it was not like he was fully stretched out to make the reception. On the contrary, he catches the ball at eye level, EXACTLY where a rcvr. wants to catch it. Could the ball have been 6" lower…sure, then he would have taken the hit in the ribs instead of on the hip.
And as far as staring him down, yes he did stare down the middle of the field. He actually seemed to be staring right at Eugene Wilson and that was probably by design because low and behold who else was in the middle of the field on that play but ‘Boobsie’ running a deep pattern behind Fitz’ dig route. The fact that Wilson stood his ground and did not commit either way until the ball was in the air was a good defensive play. Did Leinart take a peak as Fitz made his break,..yes. But as far as staring Fitz down the whole way, it just didn’t happen that way.
Irregardless, I don’t think I have ever seen a QB so maligned on a pass completion before in my life, and I really feel if this was anybody else but ML, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.. I mean, seriously, this is still football, right? So Fitz went over the middle and took a good hit. It happens. If Fitz goes up for one of his famous jump ball catches and takes a shot in the ribs, are people going to rail against Leinart, again? They didn’t when Warner was throwing those passes, did they?
And speaking of which, with all this talk it made me go back and look at the 2008 highlights of the Jet game when Q was almost killed by that hit by Eric Smith. You want to talk about staring down a receiver, from the snap KW looked at no one else but Q and he was the only one in the middle of the field. Funny, I don’t remember the talking heads going on and on about KW putting Q’s career in jeopardy. Do you?
At this point, it just seems to me that many in the media, and many fans too for that matter, are really pulling for ML to fail so they can pat themselves on the back and say “See, I told you he was a bum!” And I, personally, can’t wait until he proves them all wrong!

The play looked legit from all angles.....
The DB hit Larry in the hip, not the lower part of his legs, just the whiplash effect caused Fitz’s leg to go sideways. If anything, Larry is lucky he didn’t have his foot all the way on the ground, could’ve been worse.

Great analysis
I have not seen the reply so I appriciate the in depth prespective. At the game it looked like a great play and a big hit, that’s all.

He threw it behind him on his back shoulder...
while there was a steadily approaching Safety to light him up. I think it was a very nice throw, on target, threaded a needle blah blah blah, but he made that decision in a preseason game. This leads me to two conclusions; 1. He’s just not very aware of all of the things going on around the field… 2. He was just reckless… I am leaning to #1 being the culprit.
Kurt Warner made a bone headed pass to Boldin a few years back in a meaningless game (at that point in the game, we were getting killed by the Jets) and didn’t here the end of it. He incessantly apologized for the gaffe and almost retired because of the guilt he felt about the whole thing. Your straight up wrong if you don’t remember them giving shit to Warner about hanging Boldin out to dry after the fact. When it happened I think everybodie’s first concern was to make sure Boldin was ok because that hit was gruesome rather than point fingers. After we heard he was ok then the shit storm started.
I’m not a Leinart basher. I really hope he comes along this year and becomes the quarterback we drafted him to be. This is football, and people will get hit hard. Players get injured and that comes with the territory and they all know these things when they strap on the pads. I just hope next time its an arbitrary game they don’t make the same mistake.
Who would win in a fight, Whisenhunt or a Hurricane?
Hold on, hold on, what if the Hurricanes name was Whisenhunt?
Daaaaaaaaaa Cards, Da Cards Da Cards Da Cards Da Cards!!!
Totally disagree where the ball was thrown
It was out in front of Fitz to his front shoulder, exactly where it should have been.
Also, since I wrote this, I have read at least 25 articles on the play and the aftermath and KW pondering retirement. Nowhere does KW ‘apologize’ for the throw. He was upset because of the hit. He obviously felt partly responsible because he was the one to throw the pass. That is only natural. But you make it sound like he HAD TO continually apologize because of all the flak he was getting from the media; but there was no flak, at least none I could find. And that is my point. The media went after Smith for the hit, and rightfully so. If anything, KW was portrayed as a sympathetic figure in the whole matter because of his genuine concern for his teammate and the fact that he is so grounded with perspective on life, which he should have been commended for. But I challenge anyone to produce one article or interview by anyone in the media who went after KW the way C.Carter just went after ML. I just don’t think one exists. Even the few bloggers who went after KW, and they were few in number, were summarily ridiculed for their comments. BTW, I even found one of your comments on the matter of whether KW was responsible. After urging the Cards to pay Q for all his dedication, very well done, you followed up with the following quote “I also think KW sold him out a bit and we really should have been kneeling….”. Sold him out a bit???? Not exactly a shit storm of condemnation.(Just playing with you my Cardinal brother in arms….but those were your words).
My whole point is this: Many in the media have made up their minds about ML and have made it perfectly clear that they feel he and the Cardinals are going to fail. And most, particularly the ex-players, are not very good at admitting they might be wrong so they are going to dwell on the negative and not accentuate the positive. And after all the years of futility from the franchise, it really ticks me off when media types, and fans too, take unnecessary cheap shots at the cardinals or their players. And Chris Carter definitely took a cheap shot!
