Report: First Round Pick Dan Williams Signs Five Year Deal With Cardinals

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Arizona Cardinals have signed first round draft pick, defensive tackle Dan Williams to a five year deal. Schefter tweeted the news today:

Arizona officially has reached agreement with its first-round pick, defensive tackle Dan Williams, on a five-year deal.

Williams has missed the first three days of training camp but should report to camp some time today. Beanie Wells and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie each missed a couple of days sorting out their respective contracts as well during their rookie years.

Terms of the contract were not disclosed, but Miami Dolphins first round pick -- defensive tackle Jared Odrick -- was signed 28th overall to a five-year, $13 million deal, with $7.1 million garunteed. We can assume that Williams' deal should be similar.

As a starter last season, Williams recorded 70 tackles, 9 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks, and 1 forced fumble.

At 6-2, 327-pounds, Williams is expected to compete with veteran defensive tackle Bryan Robinson for playing time this season. He'll likely rotate with Robinson and Gabe Watson to start the season, but as long as he can prove his first round status, he could be starting by midseason.

The Cardinals will be forced to release a player with the signing of Williams, but there is no news on who that will be.

I think Williams kind of soft spoken persona will mesh well with Campbell, and he should respond well to a leader like Dockett (like Campbell). I want to hear williams talking shit on the line though, if he does we’ll have one of the nastiest, shit talking D-lines in football. lol That would be cool.

And San Fran’s David Baas went down with a concussion on the 1st day of camp, so it looks like it will be rookie on rookie when DW gets playing time. I can’t wait to see our D-line MAUL that weak, inexperienced O-line.
