Arizona Cardinals 2010 Training Camp Updates
The Cardinals began their 2010 training camp this past weekend after OTAs ended nearly two months ago. All of their draft picks have reportedly signed and no one is holding out of camp. I haven't attended camp yet but I will sometime soon. Until then, all I can base the progress on is what is reported to us. I'm a local and current resident of Arizona, so I was able to watch a few news pieces and interviews about camp. Here's what I know so far:
- Today's practice was moved inside due to the rain. It is expected to remain rainy in Flagstaff at least until next week.
- Rashad Johnson has played well and got into a skirmish with tight end Stephen Spach (see picture). Spach also got under the skin of Adrian Wilson last offseason. I don't mind it. I think it can bring out the best in guys.
- In an interview, Beanie Wells said it didn't matter who started at running back, and that they were one unit. When answering the same question, Tim Hightower said it does matter and he wants to be number one. He said he's very competitive.
- Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has reportedly looked outstanding in camp, and he's admittedly at 85% health after recovering from offseason knee surgery. He said he liked the competition between he and Larry Fitzgerald and that he doesn't initiate smack-talk between the two -- but he will if Fitz starts it. He also said he's increased his muscle and now weighs 194-pounds.
- Trumaine McBride has been starting opposite DRC in camp so far, not Greg Toler. Ken Whisenhunt is going to make Toler earn the starting job much as he's always done. No argument there.
- As we know, defensive tackle Darnell Dockett showed up to camp with no complaints. There were a number of Dockett-supporters that showed up with signs reading, "Extend 9-0". Dockett was surprised but appreciated the support very much. Darnell also said that he and Joey Porter would be equal when it came to trash-talk.
- Adrian Wilson was humble in an interview. He said he's not worried about the defense and that he and Kerry Rhodes were improving their chemistry together. He said they needed the rest of training camp and preseason to be completely ready. Wilson also said that he is trying to improve his game and that he is, "only 30[years old]". When asked who he thought everyone should look out for, he said Beanie Wells and that he can reach 1,500 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. When asked about all of the offseason changes Wilson said it didn't matter to him because that stuff is up to the front office.
- Outside linebacker and NFL-new comer Stevie Baggs was interviewed. Baggs said one NFL team actually told him he should quit football because get this -- he's pigeon-toed. Baggs said he's worked as a bouncer and model to try to make ends meet when he was in the CFL. I support Baggs even more now.
- Calais Campbell was signing fans' autographs and doing a TV interview at the same time. Campbell said he'd like to reach at least 10 sacks and that since Joey Porter has arrived, it has/it will make his job a lot easier since Porter will draw double teams.
- Jason Wright said a lot of guys are happy to be wearing pads finally. He said everyone is fresh and although football is their job, they are having fun out there.
- According to Darren Urban, safety Hamza Abdullah injured his hamstring, but it's nothing serious. And Dockett has been ripping into the Cardinals offensive line.
- I was able to watch Matt Leinart speak to the press and the change in his tone is crazy. He sounds confident and freakishly ready for the season to begin. I think he's going to surprise a lot of people and become the leader on offense -- something he has never been before. He was very happy by the round of applause he received when he entered camp. At the end of one practice when Leinart was walking off the field, the fans were chanting his name. He ran back to the crowd and signed every autograph. Kurt Warner was known for signing each and every autograph when he was in camp. It looks like he did the same today. Great to hear that from Matt.
- Kent Somers has live updates and pics from camp that you can follow here.

good to hear
that Rashad is starting to look like the player they envisioned last year, hopefully it continues throughout camp/preseason. Interesting observation about Beanie by AW, I doubt he’d say something like that w/o meaning it. I read that 9-0 is already playing like a beast, any word on how Watson looks so far?
I've heard both
Watson and Branch have trimmed down a lot since Dan Williams was drafted and they realize it will be tough to get playing time (and rightfully so). Watson also admitted his knee was still bothering him last year and he feels 100% for the first time since the surgery. Hopefully it reflects in camp. Sorry but not sure about their performance thusfar.

I didn't hear anything from either of them
But this is a critical year for both. They need to step up.
What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.
Revenge of the Birds
If that was the practice yesterday you were talking about with Leinart
I got one of those Autographs =). Did he mention anything about the fans chanting his name during the interview or did you hear it somewhere else?
I found this on the azcentral website, they will update from training camp live on here: http://twitter.com/azcCardinals. Sounds like Leinart signed a ton of Autographs today too.

Oops
Missed that you had it up already.

Yeah he said he loved it. Everything he said sounded genuine.
I’ve never heard Matt talk like that before.

He did seem like he enjoyed giving all the autographs yesterday
He tried to get everyone that was able to get into the line. And I know that he did a bunch of them on the first day too.
And if you watch the video on azcardinals.com of Whisenhunts press conference for yesterday, you can hear all of us in the crowd yelling for Larry to do some autographs.

heard today that crowd was chanting Derek
and that Chris Mortenson had to turn around and tell them to give the guy a break and that it was only the 3rd practice (it wasnt a large group of people).

They are idiots.

say what ?
" Baggs said one NFL team actually told him he should quit football because get this — he’s pigeon-toed."
must of been the same scouts that dismissed those deadbeats Moon and Theisman, causing them to go to Canada
He said that he was cut by a few teams once they saw him walk.

Revenge of the Birds
That was the first thing I noticed about him when I went back and rewatched him play some CFL
He had it wrapped and it’s very noticeable. I laughed at him working as a bouncer and model. I could see it =)
Dan Williams
what is the story hear? heard that he HAS signed and that he has NOT signed. If anyone knows the REAL story please stand up?

It was reported by Schefter. Nothing official yet.

Well
he has agreed to the terme of the contrant and is flying out to AZ to sign today.
The video on azcardinals.com is very exciting.
The defense looks BEASTY, especially the secondary, but the D-line has been looking as ferocious as ever. I think if any unit is going to respond this season it will be the D. I think the offense will remain steady as usual, but the D looks hungry, and they’re playing with a BIG chip. Like I’ve said on other sites, as long as we can get solid play out of the ILBs then we’re going to have a good defense. Which makes perfect sense, seeing as how every other position has upgraded (wether by experience or personnel).
Anyone know if we can get the video from ESPN of Mort talking to Leinart, Fitz, and Whiz?

from twitter about Max Hall
RT @azcCardinals: And Max Hall threads a sharp pass through coverage to a receiver. Greeted with high fives. That was nice.
I really hope Max Hall makes your 53 man roster.
I wanted to see us draft him after the Bowl game BYU was in.
Can’t wait to see him and Skelton play in the preseason.

D and O line
You said that Dockett was tearing through the D-line, lets hope that our Defense is on a whole other level of unstoppable and that our O-line just isn’t really bad.
Fan of :
Toronto Raptors
Arizona Cardinal
Kansas Jayhawks
true
That’s the tough part about camp. If someone says the wide receivers looked great, it seems like the corners were terrible. I think it’s just Dockett dominating someone that he is better then.

Didn’t he say before that our O-Line is garbage, and now he is saying nice things about it?
