Arizona Cardinals see few positives in preseason loss to Tennessee Titans
If the Cardinals starting offense plans to search for shiny objects when watching replays of Monday night's preseason game against the Titans, it's going to take hours of sifting.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt and the Arizona Cardinals gave quarterback Matt Leinart little help Monday night during a 24-10 loss. The Tennessee Titans did Leinart no favors by blitzing against an offensive line that wasn't game-planning, this being preseason.

No one can accuse Arizona Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart of hanging out receiver Larry Fitzgerald in this ESPN clip. Fitzgerald did the hanging voluntarily, proving he could catch passes while suspended upside-down. Not bad.
No Time To Panic
Matt Leinart insisted he wasn’t concerned, but took the blame for the starting offense’s inability to move the ball Monday night. Coach Ken Whisenhunt said he wasn’t happy about the inertia, but said he wasn’t panicking about the situation.

It's always hard determining how much significance, if any, to attach to preseason performances. Some teams game plan; some don't. Some teams show entire defensive packages; others would rather have their mothers seen in mini-skirts.

As I noted earlier on Twitter (if you’re not hooked up to twitter.com/cardschatter, do it!), wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald was running the length of the field and cutting, and catching some passes after running a route. In other words, he seems to be heading in the right direction to be ready for the regular-season opener in St. Louis.

The 2010 Arizona Cardinals are entering an era of uncertainty after Kurt Warner decided to hang up his cleats at the conclusion of last season. After primarily being a passing team for the last three seasons and with Warner gone and Matt Leinart behind center, the offensive line and running backs will need to step up and become a dominant force running the football. Chris "Beanie" Wells, who was a rookie last season, is on the verge of becoming a star after having a terrible first half of last season only to rebound and get better as the season progressed.

Fitz on Sports Science
Watching that at half time was the best part of last night’s game. Sad to say but true. My wife has called him spider man since seeing him in the 2008 playoffs. I think she is on to something there. The upside down catches were impressive.
They were mentioning his hand-eye coordination
as well as his eyesight, leaving out all the pictures we’ve seen of him making catches with his eyes closed…
20-10 vision in both eyes.
Well if you can see the ball’s trajectory and account for where it’s going to be then keeping your eyes open for the actual catch is kind of optional I guess. It was cool that Cris Carter discussed Fitz’s ability to track the ball so well. Usually all you hear about Fitz is that he’s great at jumping up to grab the ball. We know he’s got so much more than that.
His speed off the ball was twice the average. I’d like to know how it compared to other receivers and DBs. It would be more telling. Undoubtedly they’ve got other position players skewing the numbers.

Thoughts after the game ..
Hightower dances way too much in the backfield.
LaGarette Blount is for real, as is Jason Jones.
Leinart needs to throw the ball deep once in a while, throwing 6 yard passes isn’t going to make the defense think twice before sending an all out blitz.
Trumaine McBride and Marshay Green struggled in coverage. Toler looked much better and more physical.
The run defense looks awful.
The O- Line ..got destroyed by the Titans D- Line.
LSH looks real good out there. Max Komar needs a second look.
The O-Line was destroyed last week too.

Although I thought Leinart took what they gave him. I did not think they left him in long enough to make any sort of judgement. I still think he is going to do very well this year. Timmy needs to hit the hole! Toler to the starting line up!

Agreed
The one deep throw was a miscue on the receiver’s part (from what I understand). The rest of the time, he made the ‘right’ throws. Didn’t have time for much else.
I’m pretty sure there were no holes for Timmy to hit. While there were plenty of holes, they were all filled with Titans. He was swarmed by 3+ defenders and crushed at about the same time he received the hand-off every play while the first team was in. My friend watching was rooting for the Titans just to be a dick and still cringed at how terrible our offensive line looked.
The most shocking part of the OL is
how completely out of sync Brown and Faneca look working side by side, particularly in pass protection. There have been about 5 or 6 occasions where one or the other has been left with no one to block seemingly falling for every stunt that the DL throws at them. Our TE’s have looked better in pass protection. Getting physically beat(and that’s happened to Levi a couple of X, also) is one thing, but for two veterans to be schooled by a bunch of no names on the Tenn line was really discouraging. Let’s hope they can clean it up in the next couple of weeks.
And since were on the OL, Reggie Wells has also been pretty disappointing and firmly believe, no matter how ticked off Whiz is at Deuce, that he will be back in the starting lineup very soon. The two best linemen have clearly been Sendlein and Keith, who has bounced back nicely from his shaky start.
I noticed Green get beat once, out-run basically
On that deep ball that they showed a replay of, and he still managed to keep up enough to tip the ball away from the receiver just a hair. Another second for the QB in the pocket and that would have been a TD. Anything else? I’m trying to keep track because so far I’ve got him fifth of the group.
What Cards are we holding?

If anyone watched The Cards and Titans last night they witnessed what I would describe as a near perfect pre-season game. Both teams let their starters get enough of a workout to warm up without breaking a sweat during the first quarter. After that they pushed the wannabes for the last three quarters to see what they had to offer in the way of breaking into the depth chart. No starter was put at risk and no high draft pick was injured. The Cards and Titans both showed depth at the QB position but it was Vince Young who stole the show. It looks to me that with his threat to use his legs to gain ground that this very well may be his breakout year where he snatches the torch from Peyton Manning and/or Tom Brady as the premier QB in the AFC.
As far as the Cards are concerned they looked to be cool under pressure with their back up QBs but their running game looks suspect. Again this is pre-season and no one got hurt. I think the Niners may get a surprise from Arizona as far as thinking that this is their year to dominate a weak team that lost its hall of fame leader Kurt Warner. Last night despite getting only a couple of descent plays from Leinart, I liked the confidence that coach Wiz showed in playing all of his QBs for the balance of the game, without getting players sidelined with injuries.
The next two pre-season games for Allanta will give the Falcon fans reason to jump for joy or have their hearts fall out of their shorts. Both opponents, Miami and Jacksonville should provide very little in the way of resistance to a strong playoff team. That is, if Atlanta is a strong playoff bound team. The next two weeks will tell us a lot if the Falcons unleash their young talent in the receiving corp and RBs. If, however, the coaching staff continues to show a lack of imagination and depend on the vets to control the game, I am afraid ATL fans are in for a long tortuous season with Matt Ryan losing confidence in his organization and supporting cast.
The Cards have two perfect tune-ups with pre-season games against the Redskins and the Bears. Both games should have a galvanizing effect on Arizona’s starters making them ready to dismantle the St. Louis Rams in the season opener and setting up a showdown with the Falcons on September the 19th at the Dome. If the Cards can begin the season with two wins on the road, they will be in great shape to challenge the Niners for the NFC crown of the Western Conference.
If, on the other hand, the Falcons can steal the season opener against Pittsburgh and crush the Arizona Cardinals in their home opener, the door will be open for the ATL to challenge N.O. for a playoff spot. Should be a very interesting four weekends coming up.
I love the smell of football in the morning. May the best teams rise to the top of the heap again this year.
That's quite a prediction for VY
I’m pretty sure it’s more a reflection of our defense than VY’s actual ability :)
Probably the one positive about our QB’s was how they handled the pressure. Didn’t look great, but didn’t make any big mistakes, either.
The Redskins will be a good game to watch because they have two top-notch TE’s and a QB who loves throwing to ‘em. We always struggle with good TE’s. Perhaps this will be a chance for Rhodes to shine (except that it’s the fourth game, which means Rhodes will be in the game for all of three plays).
As for the Bears, they’ve looked awful on both sides of the ball. The Raiders offense looked competent against them this week, so it could be a good opportunity for Leinart to build some momentum.
