So I'm sick of slapping fish in a barrel, beating dead horses, talking about the great quarterback controversy, so on and so forth... Daryl Washington is getting his chance on the starting defense against the Chicago Bears. Man, how much talk would there have been about this if Whis hadn't swapped Leinart and Anderson around? I'm stoked. I want to see what he can bring. I want to see Cutler get slaughtered. Don't care by who. Anyone in red will do. I just can't stand that guy. Washington has looked pretty damn good out there. That should go without saying I guess. He wouldn't be starting otherwise. He led the team in tackles in the first pre season game with 9 solo and 4 assists. He had 3 tackles in the second game. Only Campbell, Abdullah and Rhodes had more. Moreover, he seemed to be all over the field, getting in at the end of many plays even if he wasn't the guy getting credit for the stop. If this guy can work his way into the starting spot opening week then we'll know that we've picked up someone special. Whisenhunt has shown so much restraint in giving rookies game time. This is a test I can't wait to watch.
Greg Toler is also getting his shot. How much competition is McBride really? How much of that competition is contrived by Whisenhunt to drive the players to be better? Toler is certainly the fan favorite to play opposite DRC. Looking forward to see if he lives up to our expectations saturday. I have the glimmer of a hope that we may have the makings of one of the best CB tandems in the league. I want two corners QBs are afraid to throw at and maybe we do. Prove me right Toler.
