8-29-10: Arizona Cardinals Bird Droppings
Looks like all that talk about Leinart being a bust whose career was over was premature eh? Both Leinart and Anderson took the damn field (I just like posting that video) played well last night in a 14-9 win against the Bears where both QBs threw a Touchdown.
I was also looking for a video of ESPN's coverage of the game last night, but I couldn't find it. To sum it up, Tim "The Other" Hasselbeck thought that Leinart and Anderson both played well, he doesn't like the way the QB Situation has been handled, and he thinks Leinart should be the starter.
Now lets get to the links, and a video of a godawful play from a High School Football game...
Arizona Cardinals' Derek Anderson, Matt Leinart solid in preseason win vs. Chicago Bears
It's premature to say the Cardinals went from having no quarterbacks to two of them in a single, starry night at Soldier Field.
The Associated Press: Anderson, Leinart help Cardinals beat Bears 14-9
Not exactly a dominant performance by Derek Anderson. Not quite redemption, either, for Matt Leinart, but a win for Arizona.

Broughton probably done
Coach Ken Whisenhunt said fullback Nehemiah Broughton, who would have been the starter and probably the lone fullback on the roster, likely tore the ACL in his left knee.

What more can he do? That’s all I can really say about Matt Leinart after this game. If at this point Whisenhunt still doesn’t think Leinart has earned the #1 QB spot going into the regular season I can only assume that it is because he sees something in training camp.
Matt Leinart Just Might Be An NFL Al Gore - Desert Dirt - SB Nation Arizona
One of our own here at SB Nation Arizona has said that we should keep politics out of sports, but there are times when the politics of sports mirror the politics of the world. Take Matt Leinart, for example. His plight is quite similar to a politician we all once knew--the 2000 version of Al Gore.
Mailbag: How to handle quarterbacks - NFC West Blog - ESPN
Cory from Arizona writes: I was watching a replay of the USC-Cal game from 2003 on Fox Sports last weekend. This was the year Matt Leinart took over as a starter for USC. The thing that caught my attention about the game was a comment by the announcers quoting Norm Chow. The comment was that Leinart was over-thinking in situations and the coaches told him to just go out and play football. When he started doing this, everything started clicking for him. This got me thinking about the Cardinals' handling of Leinart. I think this is why Leinart played so well his rookie year, yet has struggled when faced with competition. He started to doubt himself, and never regained his confidence. Do you think the Cardinals mishandled the transition to Leinart?

Cutler was the worst QB on the field last night.
Leinart looked good, should still be the opening starter. Anderson had a good game but you just never know with him what you will get come game time. Each week is an adventure with Anderson, and Leinart should be the man.
Agreed, Leinart will be the starter week 1
I know it’s been up and down, but if Whis isn’t at least a little impressed by Leinart last night, then he never will be. Anderson has been Anderson post ‘07. Each play is like a box of chocolates. Leinart hasn’t had enough time on the field.
If only they had the same number of snaps over the body of the preseason to compare their numbers, but they don’t. And it’s obvious that when you leave one guy in longer his numbers should be higher than the guy with 1/3 of the snaps.

agree
but when you listen to whiz talk about the choice at qb he reiterates how it is not going to be entirely stats based. hate to say it but it sounds like he’s giving himself room and reason to choose DA over ML..

So matty goes 9/10 and he hasnt claimed the job yet?
They’d probably still be saying this if he went 10 for 10

HardHat said Hightower and Breaston did everything on the TD Drive for him
Surprised he didn’t whine about checkdowns, but he has to find something to complain about with Matt.

This is what he said
“After the game, Leinart greeted a group of reporters with a big smile and greeting. “What’s up guys?” he said. “I felt great in there. That’s just been my attitude ever since this decision was made (Thursday). I can only control what I can control.”"
The credit for Leinart’s sole TD drive of the preseason belongs to Hightower and his 42 yards on 2 carries… and to Breaston for his goal-line acrobatics.
But Leinart gladly took all the credit.
Totally classless bum.
And his newest nugget of wisdom.
Before last night, I didn’t think we could get anything in a trade for Leinart.
But now…. we might be able to trade ol’ Matty Boi to Pete Carroll and get two beer vendors from Qwest Field plus a new set of towels for our weight room! Yeah!

Man, those are hilarious
I can only hope that Leinart does get to start week 1 to keep those gems of knowledge coming.

He will find something to whine about if Leinart tears it up in week 1 too.
Probably say that the game doesn’t count because it was against the Rams…
