Ask Hogs Haven - Redskins Questions

Hey all. I'm the Editor over at the Redskins SB Nation site, Hogs Haven. If you have any Redskins related questions - fire away and either myself or someone in our community will answer him.

A LOT of our starters will not be playing (McNabb, Portis, etc). You're going to see a lot of 3rd string QB John Beck (formerly with Ravens and Fins). Haynesworth says he expects to see a lot of time, which is feasible since he's technically still on the 2nd string team and Shanahan is making him work since he missed so many practices.

Cheers.

Kevin

Out of 1-10... about a 67.

But all fans will move on if he finally shuts up and plays. He did well against the Jets…and the Redskins need him.

Me personally

I was extremely annoyed with Haynesworth in the beginning, and I wanted us to trade him asap. But, it seems like he and Shanahan may be turning the corner. Plus, Haynesworth seems to be doing everything that is asked of him so I can’t really get mad or annoyed with him at this point. I realize when he’s motivated, he can be the best DL in the league, and if he’s helping us win games I certainly can’t complain.

I was going to make one of these on your blog, but we have been busy here and you guys have a 24 hour waiting limit until people can post

What are the biggest differences in McNabb and Campbell?

Lifelong Arizona Cardinals/Chicago Bears fan [I have always lived in Arizona, dad is from Chicago].

I can't stand fair-weather/bandwagon fans, stick with your team, throughout the good and the bad. And don't switch to whichever team wins the Super Bowl each year.

Go ahead and join (applies to anyone)...I'll approve you now.

Biggest difference is pocket awareness and leadership. Campbell had neither and McNabb has both.

I joined a little while before you posted this here.

Not much time before the game to answer some questions though.

In my opinion

The biggest difference between Campbell and McNabb is McNabb’s ability to make plays and make something out of nothing. A lot of the blame can be on our terrible O-line last year, but Campbell didn’t really take too many chances. McNabb just knows how to make good things happen.

Also, unlike Campbell, I have the confidence in McNabb to lead us down the field in the 4th quarter if we’re down a TD or FG. McNabb’s leadership and experience is also far superior than Campbell’s, and it seems to show in the words of our offense. Our offense seems to have more confidence when they’re on the field with McNabb because of everything he brings to the table.

Of course I have nothing against Campbell, and I wish him well, but

How has your offensive line been gelling?

Many “experts” think you have the toughest schedule and are in the best conference, how do you feel your season is going to play out?
Thanks and good luck Thursday, here’s to no injuries.

real well.

Trent Williams has been an absolute stud and Jammal Brown (RT), the former pro-bowler from the Saints, played well too.

Skins have no depth though so staying injury free is key. I think we’re a 7-9 team b/c our schedule is absurdly difficult.

No matter what happens W-L -wise

we will absolutely know where we are as a team and what we need to improve by the end of the season. Right now it looks like we are about a .500 team against almost all of the best teams in the league. If we can compete this year, it bodes well for us. If not…well, we’ll have to address each issue and do what we can to get better. Like Kevin says, injuries will be key is we only have real depth at a few positions.

Our O-line

Has been gelling pretty well in my opinion. Against the blitz-happy Jets, our O-line held their own and Rex Grossman was never really pressured at all, except for once or twice. Our running game has been terrible thus far though. Pass protection wise, we’re pretty good. Run blocking… not so much, at least not yet. However, if we have any injuries on our first string O-line, we’re screwed.

We do have a tough schedule and I do believe we’re at least in the most competitive division. However, I could make a case for any of the four teams winning the division (I don’t think we will though). Redskins, Cowboys, Eagles, and Giants all have strengths and weaknesses, it all comes down to luck and injuries in my opinion. I think we’re an 8-8 team, but could be 9-7 or 10-6 if we have some luck on our side.

How dare you interfere with our QB controversy!

What’s the running back situation look like for you guys at this point? Who looks like they are staying and going?

From what I've heard it seems like Willie Parker is the one who is going to get cut

How'd he fall so far?

Who would win in a fight, Whisenhunt or a Hurricane?

He has no pop left...Willie ain't so fast.

I’d be shocked if he makes the team. Portis is the only one that has shined. Ryan Torain and LJohnson will prob make it too.

Russ has always been modest

and well-mannered, cleans up after he vomits on the practice field, etc. I forgive the ignorance.

I see Darnell Dockett

has re-signed with you guys. That must be a sense of relief. How do you feel about the current roster given Boldin is gone and Leinart seems to be coming up one or two beers short in the hot tub… :)

A lot of us think that Early Doucet will do a good job replacing Boldin

Even though it is tough to replace a leader like him.

And with Leianrt, a lot of us are divided. It seems like half the Blog thinks Leianrt should stay (I’m in that half), and the other half thinks Anderson should start.

That's where we were last year

with Jason. Half of us believed he would be a serviceable QB. He had decent stats, but not the intangibles. He had no OLine protection. We thought this could be his year with an improved line. Shanny thought otherwise.

Dockett signing an extention is big time.

The Cardinals defense is getting better and better. They take an excessive amount of heat for the playoff games last year. What people don’t realize is how beat up they were. The depth was paper thin. When players starting going down with injuries it dominoed. They’ll surprise people this season.

Boldin won’t be missed. He’s high profile but the guys backing him will fill in fine. Plus we picked up a bad ass undrafted rookie in Stephen Williams. The players we lost after last season won’t be as big a loss as believed, barring of course Kurt Warner. The team had a repalcement for Rolle lined up since the rookie combine (Rhodes). Dansby’s replacement was drafted in the 2nd round. He’s coming on faster than expected and should be a starter week one (Daryl Washington). He would have been the first round choice if NT Dan Williams hadn’t slipped to us. As Williams comes into his own watch the Cardinals D line wreak havoc.

As for the QB… holy crap. Let’s hope our WR corp can make Derek Anderson look good. Leinart looks to be walking out the door if he can find a taker. We have a 5th round pick and an undrafted rookie behind them.

The offensive line started out poorly but is now starting to gel. Not sure how well they will do but hopeful. They are built to be a road grading machine for Wells and Hightower.
