The Cardinals' efforts at punt returns this season have been a debacle. Max Komar and Andre Roberts have both looked miserable at the job. Steve Breaston is too important to risk there. Someone needs to be found to fill the role asap. Larod Stephens-Howling is the name that comes up most frequently and understandably so. You can't help but hope that the success he has been having at kick returns will translate to punt returning as well. That's no sure thing. The skill sets are different, but are they so different as to not give this a shot? There have got to be some other choices on the roster to consider though as well.
CB A.J. Jefferson ran a 4.43 40 at the combine. His 20 yard shuttle and 60 yard shuttle times were the best of anyone at the combine (4.0 and 11.04 respectively). He had 3 kick returns for TD in college. CB Brandon McDonald has been inactive since being picked up off of waivers. He was a punt returner in college. On the practice squad is CB Marshay Green and WRs Tim Brown and Isaiah Williams. I'll be curious as to who will be shagging punts at practice this week. Whoever gets the call doesn't need to be great. At this point I'll settle for someone who catches the ball and holds on to it, no return yardage necessary.
