As I sit here and watch and read everything about the Arizona Cardinals this year I think back to a simpler time when all we had was a loser in town. ( I know that Buddy Ryan would proclaim otherwise) There were 40,000 empty burning seats in the upper deck of Sun Devil Stadium (here in referredto as the toilet bowl) and I went to every single game from 1995 to 2000 with my father. I was just in high school at the time and this was my first pro team i was ever a part of. Maybe I was crazy but every year i bet my Mother that this would be the year that the super bowl came through Arizona (I won once in 1996 but that is because it was a lopsided bet).
Anyways I look back at those times and even with the playoffs in 1998 and the Dallas win we never got to the point of fans being upset about a 2-1 record hell most of the time we didn't win two games until the 12th game of the season. I think that our culture around Phoenix has changed for the better. Us as fans no longer want 4-12 or 7-9 or even 8-8 we expect playoffs every year. There will be no going back to that ever again. I will be the first to curse Bill Bidwell as a owner, I will also be the first to congratulate the younger Bidwell's because they told us they would put a competitive product on the field if we gave them a new stadium. They hired the right coach, (In Ken we Trust), and are making all the right moves.
I want to thank Arizona Cardinals fans for showing up every week talking football. You, me, and everyone in the valley should expect perfection from these coaches, players, and owners. I did for five years at the toilet bowl and for the 7 years of losing then on. The fact of the matter is for the first time ever the Cardinals are not disappointing me even if they do go 8-8 this year or miss the playoffs because i know next year the road to the Super Bowl comes through Arizona I got 20 bucks on it.... Any Takers???
