If it makes people feel better...
We're no longer the only team to have dumped our 2009 2nd draft pick:

I personally am pleased with the Cards' decision on Brown. It's always a risk picking a player with the intention of transitioning them from DE to OLB and it takes balls to call it a day when you can see you'll get nothing tangible from it as opposed to holding onto the player and pretending you have something you don't...
Thoughts?

Sometimes you have to call it a day
But I hope he makes the PS for us he could still prove to be useful

I'm not disappointed with cutting Brown.
It’s the fact that so many guys at that position washed out. It leaves us weak at OLB with 2 starters headed down the back stretch of their careers. Where is the young talent to replace them? We’ve got Will Davis and an injured O’Brian Schoefield left.
Will Davis...
Is a monster! Really excited to see him reach a higher level this year! He was just getting it last year!

I think we will pick up another LB or two off waiver wire.

+1
Lifelong Arizona Cardinals/Chicago Bears fan [I have always lived in Arizona, dad is from Chicago].
I can't stand fair-weather/bandwagon fans, stick with your team, throughout the good and the bad. And don't switch to whichever team wins the Super Bowl each year.
Not to harp on the Vikes but ...
they cut a bunch of good players … Nate Triplett comes to mind in this conversation
Our defensive strength is
on the defensive line. we have Dockett and CC ( i think both will be probowlers) with BRob/Watson/Williams in the middle. Branch and Iwebima to keep them all fresh.
Porter and Haggans outside and D Wash as MLB until Hayes comes back.
Most sets don’t have to be 3-4—we can play 3-3-5. using R Johnson/ware/adams/abdula/and Mcbride as the 5th Dback.

Lenon has been one of the best surprises of the preseason to me.

Absolutely.
ILB was a big concern going into camp. No one could know how well Washington would perform, or how quickly he could become a starter. Paris Lenon was a great pick up. He had the misfortune to play for some bad teams. All the better for us that he came in under the radar. Now ILB looks pretty solid with Walker and Togafau as rotation while Hayes recovers. Too bad OLB went from promising to shaky at the same time.
yes--except for obvious running downs
this is a “passing league”. (I keep hearing that anyway.
Nickle backs are very important. A-Dub can be a psuedo-linebacker if teams run on 2nd and 7’s

Nickel package
The nickel package is used frequently by the Cardinals defense in situations that merit it. Changing the base defense to a nickel defense is crazy. Wilson is a good safety. He’s a hard hitter. He’s not a run stuffing linebacker. Besides that, the inside linebacker position is not where the team lacks depth. There are currently only 3 outside linebackers, Porter, Haggans and Davis. On the inside there is Lenon, Washington, Walker and Togafau. Gerald Hayes remains on the PUP list and O’Brian Schoefield on the injured / non football list. The team will be on the hunt for another OLB that has been released or they may look for a trade. We can’t last long in the season with only 3 guys in that important a position in the defense.
Wilson is....
A linebacker playing safety…he works great as an edge rusher
