Our fourth OLB?
While I don't think anyone was surprised by Cody Brown getting released in regards to his performance, or lack thereof, some of us (yours truly) weren't expecting it as our OLB's now number three. I had read, from Darren Urban and others, that the team would be searching the waiver wire to find a fourth guy. Out of curiosity, to see what may be out there I was just reviewing some of the bigger names cuts around the rest of the league, and just found out New England has released OLB Derrick Burgess.
I'll admit to not having watched him as closely as I did a few years ago (back in 2005 he led the league in sacks with 16) but he would seem to be a good addition to a very depleted position for us. Curious to know what the rest of ROTB thinks about the possibility of him being added to the squad?
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Revenge of the Birds' (ROTB) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of ROTB's editors.

The only real down side is he's 32
so we wouldn’t be injecting youth into the position. I as well as most here had high hopes for Stevie Baggs. The real question is does he have anything left and if he does then why did he get cut. We have plenty of leadership on the team especially the defensive side so I wouldn’t want that to be the reason we bring him on.

O'Brien will be on the roster when he is healed up.
Burgess could work as a stopgap.
Lifelong Arizona Cardinals/Chicago Bears fan [I have always lived in Arizona, dad is from Chicago].
I can't stand fair-weather/bandwagon fans, stick with your team, throughout the good and the bad. And don't switch to whichever team wins the Super Bowl each year.
Hopefully O'Brien can join Will Davis and be our future
But in the mean time we don’t know how long he will be out and how quickly he can get up to speed. I hope its not the same situation with him next year as it was with Cody Brown this year.

+1
Looking at Scofield and seeing the potential is not the same as seeing actual game production. I hope he’s great but I’d love a little veteren assurance in the mean time.

My apologies to Canadian Card
just noticed he listed Burgess as one of three possibilities at OLB for us on another recently posted article. Not easy to get to any breaking news/ideas first around here.
If you’re reading, give us your two cents on your earlier post. Who do you think might be a good fit?
No problem Long Beach
I think Burgess would be the better temporary solution – since it seems he has the better stats and overall experience then the 2 other OLB’s that I listed – until O’Brien heals up.

if we grab Burgess why did we cut Beisel ?
… personally I’m gonna miss Monty, and he had a knack for making big plays
I put up a post asking about Obiozor over at Acme Packing Co.
Hopefully we’ll get some good news on him.
What about....
Using a 46 base….Isnt that where basically a DE/OLB is the same thing..?
The 46 leaves you very vulnerable
if it’s picked up – I remember Aikman just destroying us with the inpenetrable wall he had in front of him. At the end of the day I’m still a strong believer that any scheme is only as good as the defenders in it. I do like the way our personnel for the 3-4 is starting to shape up.
