SB Nation Arizona Editor's Pick
Beanie Wells vs Hightower
I drafted Beanie in one of my Fantasy leagues and starting to worry that I may have made a mistake. Given the QB situation [now with Leinhart gone], it does appear the Cards will lean on the running game more, however it seems Hightower is the true #1 RB or at very least in the dreaded RBBC approach used last year.
What say ye? As a follower of my hometown team, Buffalo Bills, I would also be happy to answer any questions you may have in that regard, although I can't imagine there would be too many :)
Anyway, thanks in advance.

It's not really a RBBC
as much as it’s a two-running back system. Don’t play fantasy football myself, but I do think both Hightower and Wells will continue to improve and be more productive this season than last. How much that helps/hurts your chances in the fantasy league I couldn’t say.
Hightower might be the better fantasy pick
Just because he makes so many receptions and will be used as the goal line back. But if it means anything I drafted Beanie as well but I had the luxury of getting him as a bench player. I do have a question about the Bills and its going to come off as a slap in the face so I do apologize but I drafted Ricky Williams and I’m not sure if I should start him against you guys this year so my question is how is your run defense looking so far?

they will look pretty even at the end of the year...
expect Hightower to fair better at the beginning and Beanie catch up. Beanie is missing holes and dancing a lot this preseason, he will calm down after a couple games…
Funny how Hightower and Wells have reversed this preseason
Hightower has been doing alot more north and south running, Wells is doing more dancing aroung for less yards
I think Chris Beanie-Wells will be the starter by mid-season
He has a ton of potential. I personally think he’s in for a break-through season.
Thanks!
In fantasy I believe you have to play with your head and not your heart. I would definitely start Ricky versus my Bills Week 1. Our run defense has looked horrible again in preseason, and as we try to switch to a 3-4 Def without all the proper personnel I believe Ricky will have a very nice day sadly ;(
My only other question would be who would you start instead of McCards010?
I check back later today for more opinions and see if there are any other Bills questions…

What do you guys think about ...
‘former fast’ Willie Parker?
Not to change the subject, but, he flourished in this offense on ’07
and Ps. The only thing keeping Beanie off the field is injuries and inconsistency … whiz hates missed assignments, lackadaisical play, and fumbles – all things Beanie has been practicing this pre-season
Hightower is less of a threat to Beanie
Than Derek Anderson is. If DA plays well, Beanie should have no issues being an effective fantasy 2RB as he tends to get more carries than Hightower. However, if Anderson stuggles that will put a lot of pressure on the running game and both Beanie and Hightower’s fantasy value will be affected.
that was going to be a fanpost i was going to put up. whether or not the offfense was reallly going to change from last year and if so by how much.
I don't either.
I think the run game will be better. Beanie will get better as the season progresses. Hightower will battle to stay #1. The line is coming together now and will be punishing. Whis has said all along that the offense wouldn’t change under Leinart. With Anderson it’s even more likely not to change much. The only difference I really see is that Anderson may not be as quick to audible into a pass play as Warner was.
I don't think Timmy will have as many receptions as last year
DA doesn’t check down often and when he does he tends to miss

This is why I don't play Fantasy Football
I don’t like getting worked up over these things. I just want to watch the games, and maybe a little gambling on who wins each game as well…
Lifelong Arizona Cardinals/Chicago Bears fan [I have always lived in Arizona, dad is from Chicago].
I can't stand fair-weather/bandwagon fans, stick with your team, throughout the good and the bad. And don't switch to whichever team wins the Super Bowl each year.
where do you do your gambling as i've been looking for a quality site? or did you mean amongst friends?
Yeah, its just a pool where you put in a couple dollars each week and whoever gets the most games right gets all the money
I’ve been close a couple of times. The best I have ever done is 2nd or 3rd place. And I got a couple of upsets right last year (Bears beating the Vikings, Bills beating the Jets).

My thinking:
Start Hightower Week 1. So far in his career, he’s been good for 1 100+ yd game against the Rams a year. This should be it. He, rather than Wells, has the momentum coming out of the preseason and promises to get the bulk of the carries while Beanie warms back up to the offense. Our RB tandem always operates on the ‘hot hand’ theory. Often times the ‘hot hand’ is the guy who doesn’t fumble first, so there’s definitely a risk here, but pair that with a new starting QB who hasn’t had any reps with our #1 WR to this point in the season and I think we’ll see a lot of misfires in the passing game until the kinks get worked out, putting extra emphasis on screens and power runs. Even if I’m wrong about the split in carries, Hightower got his start as an effective short-yardage/goal-line back, and I would expect us to turn to the run-game in the red-zone more than usual this week.
As for long-term outlook, Beanie presents the best option in the backfield, but is currently being drafted a little early in most of the mocks I have seen. He absolutely has the potential to break-out for 1,000+ yards, but has done nothing to show he has developed into an every-down kind of back, meaning that Hightower will continue to see a sizable chunk of the carries (and receptions).
