1-15-11: Arizona Cardinals Bird Droppings

Some links.

The Plays That Shaped The Season
In 2010, the Cardinals took part in 2,345 plays during the regular season. Plenty were memorable – both good and bad. During the marathon of 16 games and the resulting roller-coaster of emotions, it’s easy to have a bunch of instances stick in the brain.

Chat wrap: Seahawks, Shurmur in focus - NFC West Blog - ESPN
Frank (Phoenix): The Cards are seemingly rebuilding now. What could they get for Larry Fitzgerald? Why keep him around if there are no quarterbacks here to throw to him. How likely is it that he gets traded?

Manusky appears to be choice as Chargers defensive coordinator - SignOnSanDiego.com
Greg Manusky is due back at Chargers Park on Friday morning, and while no deal is done, indications are that he is close to being named to run the Chargers defense.

Cards bring back Ali
The Cardinals have re-signed fullback Charles Ali for 2011. Ali was with the team over the offseason, but got hurt early in training camp while trying to battle for the lone fullback slot and was waived. So he will give it another shot. He’s the lone fullback under contract for 2011 at this point. Nehemiah Broughton, who continues to show up daily to rehab the knee he blew out in the preseason, and 2010 starter Reagan Maui’a both are free agents heading into the offseason.

azcentral.com blogs - Kent Somers - The Offensive Staff
One of the top three targets of speculation for Cardinals fans this off-season is the idea that Ken Whisenhunt needs to hire an offensive coordinator. (I'd say QB, defensive coordinator were the top two). Whisenhunt has shown no inclination to make a change on his offensive staff, yet I've had a lot of questions/suggestions about Whisenhunt's plans. I don't get the sense the coach is planning any changes.

Five reasons the Arizona Cardinals should say ’no’ to Auburn’s Cam Newton - Phoenix Arizona Cardinals | Examiner.com
The Arizona Cardinals, with the fifth overall pick after a dismal 5-11 season, are looking for a quarterback. Many will hope the Cardinals will take a serious look at Newton, but here's five reasons the Cardinals should say 'no' to the Heisman Trophy winner and look elsewhere in the draft.

KTAR.com - Cardinals defensive coordinator options dwindling
A list of defensive coordinator candidates quickly emerged after the Arizona Cardinals fired Bill Davis last week. That list has just as quickly diminished over the last few days.

Mailbag: Bradford, Fitzgerald and more - NFC West Blog - ESPN
Jim from San Francisco writes: Hi Mike, love the blog. Do you think cutting Matt Leinart effectively cost the Cardinals any shot at the playoffs in what turned out to be a weak NFC West season? Also, are any QB-needy teams looking at him as an option? How did his star fade so quickly? Thanks.

Madden 11 Roster Update #18 Details | pastapadre.com
After a few weeks off there is a new Madden 11 roster update set for release tomorrow. This update takes a wider look at developments of the whole year instead of just the end of the season and the playoffs. That also means some players are being reinserted onto rosters that had previously been removed due to injuries, though some other players on the IR won’t return to active placement until the final update that comes following the Super Bowl. There are also plenty of depth chart changes and a few equipment changes thrown in.

why are people saying we need a DE ?

Ive seen a couple of mock drafts that have the Cards taking A DE or DT. Our D line is the only part of the D I would call solid

A lot of times

college 4-3 DE’s get shifted to NFL 3-4 OLB’s, and getting an OLB that can rush the passer is a big need for the Cardinals this offseason.

True but some of these guys are not OLB options.

I don’t get the idea of them drafting someone like Fairley when OLB is obviously a huge need and there are options at that position as well such as Quinn or Miller. Maybe the people doing these mocks are unaware that the Cardinals took a NT in the first last year or are simply trying to plug in who they think is BPA. I’ve seen pretty much every player considered a potential top 5 pick mocked to the Cardinals.

My bad

I thought you were talking about Quinn, cause he played DE in college. I totally agree though, we have d-line strength and depth already. OLB is by far what we should be targeting with the #5.

‘Mr Hands’ Boldin could’ve just cost the Ravens their season. THAT’S why you aren’t worth what you think you are dude!

Just saw the video on NFL.com

Watching the Falcons just bend over and take it up the hindquarters was pretty sad too.

Saturday was the worst day for playoff football I've seen in ages.

What a miserable outcome. I HATE the Steelers and the Packers. Absolutely despise both teams and the vast majority of their fans. GO Jets and Bears. If it is a Packers/Steelers Super Bowl, I won’t be watching.

No, drinking wouldn't help.

Just the sight of disgusting bright yellow pants worn by every player on the field will make me want to puke. Drinking would even make it worse.
