Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

Fitzgerald and the Patriots

I was reading the Bill Simmons/Sports Guy's chat wrap up on ESPN today and he made an interesting point.  Don't question why I keep reading Simmons when he's gone way down hill, but check this out:

http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/36624/page-2-bill-simmons

Star-divide

Specifically let me paste this:

"Tom Brady (California)

I want Larry Fitzgerald next year. Or Vincent Jackson. Or one guy over 5 foot 10.

Bill Simmons   (3:19 PM)

The Fitzgerald option is pretty tantalizing. The Pats are going to have the No. 17, No. 28 and No. 33 picks and No. 56 picks (I think that's right). Would you trade No. 17 and No. 33 for Fitzgerald? Wouldn't you have to think about it? How many years in a row can they keep just stockpiling these picks? Brady is going to be 34 next season. Aaaaaaaargh. Now I'm getting agitated again."

Thinking about where the Cards are drafting, what their needs are, etc., would you entertain this?  The Cards #5 overall pick could be either AJ Green or Julio Jones, and then you can get an offensive tackle and a pass rusher at the other two spots.

Please keep in mind that I'm not saying let's do this, I just find it interesting and would be curious as of people's take on this.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Revenge of the Birds' (ROTB) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of ROTB's editors.

Uh....

Hes the only reason i watched this season

I would not trade him for 17 and 33

I don’t see this happening and think Fitz will be here for the duration of his career, but for the sake of argument:

He was a top 10 pick that produced and out performed his contract and has 5-7 good years left (maybe more the way he takes care of himself and how clean he lives).

For the sack of argument I would have to consider 17, 28 & 56 or 17, 33 & 56. I would take 17, 28 & 33 for fitz.

I would not be in favor of trading Fitz

But I can’t help but think what trading Hershal Walker did for the Cowboys. A 17, 28 & 33 would certainly be intriguing.

Wouldn't support it. But I can't see Billy boy pulling the trigger on this.

Hes always been about draft and stockpiling picks…only when he can get a good deal for the Pats will he pull the trigger. Can’t see him giving away picks. Besides, their issues aren’t at WR in my opinion…

by Cardzfan on Jan 24, 2011 5:52 PM MST up reply actions

Let's trade him

for #17, #28, #33, and Tom Brady

by CardsDefense on Jan 24, 2011 5:23 PM MST reply actions

Even then

Tom Brady for Fitz?

I would be excited and mad as heck if we made that trade. But in the end, I like Fitz more than Tom Brady (And I’m a big Tom Brady fan).

Larry Fitzgerald's not getting traded.

Certain guys in the league just don’t get traded. Fitz is one of them.

by Chg91 on Jan 24, 2011 5:29 PM MST reply actions

The only way I would trade Fitz is....

If he would not play for the Cards any more. We just gave him the money, he has years left. Too many QB’s out there not named Cutler/Carr that we could bring in. No way trade Fitz for a rookie that wont see the field except for special teams. Whiz wont start him, no way. Whiz resigned the million year old DT instead of starting our 1st rnd draft choice from last year Dan Williams. When is the people from this site gonna get it through there heads that Whiz does not trust rookies.
Any draft picks we have this year are for later down the road. He brings in free agents to fill holes. This is not good or bad it is just the way he does things. Unless the Cardinal brass makes him change his philosiphy, that means The Cardinals wont make a 180 next year based on our 2011 draft, like the 2010 Patriots did. Remember that was a rebuilding year and they were starting alot of roookies, Whiz would not do that without some one holding him over a flame.
We traded Boldin a year late and new that we would not keep our FS/CB who left for NY, yet we got nothing for him and the ILB to Miami. Now you want to trade Fitz! Are you nuts? You must want the Cards to suck for ever. Fitz is what is going to bring a good QB here. No Fitz, hello David Carr, yuck!

by Reo Hays on Jan 24, 2011 6:43 PM MST reply actions

That's a huge overexaggeration

Coach Whiz trusts rookies. He started Bryan Robinson for cermonial purposes. The whole reason Bryan Robinson was here was to teach Dan Williams some of the veteran stuff. In fact, towards the end of the season, Dan Williams was getting most of the playing time.

Daryl Washington was a starter at the end of the year. Andre Roberts was our #3 WR. If I’m not mistaken, O’brien Schofield started a few games at the end of the season too. John Skelton was our final starting QB. Jim Dray got a few starts too. In fact, the only rookie who didn’t start a game was Jorrick Calvin, and that’s because he was over in Philadelphia.

Can we stop bringing up the whole Boldin/Dansy/Rolle issue? It’s been talked about so many times. I think that after one whole season, it’s time to let go.

trade our 1st born son?

this guy is our 1st and truest headliner of all AZ history. eric swann? aeneas williams? those guys ehh.

FITZ??? NEVER!!!

If we offer an extension and he doesn't accept before the draft and...

the Pats are offering two 1st round picks then you have to do it. (assuming CBA happens).

by Husk on Jan 24, 2011 11:14 PM MST reply actions

+ 1

it would be better than getting nothing and still losing him

by CardsDefense on Jan 25, 2011 10:41 PM MST up reply actions

I dont wanna trade Fitz but......

If he is gonna leave, and that Pats wanna give us a 1st and what amounts to a first in the 33rd pick, than we would be dumb to not do it… that would give us 4 picks in the top 38… oline, lb, wr and cb are all positions we need and will be able to target and get very good value…

our 5th- aj green or amukamara
17th- tyron smith or akeem ayers
33rd- best available that fills need
38th- best avalable best available that fills need…

we could also use 33rd or 38th to land orton or palmer if available. and there will be some good olineman available in the 2nd that would upgrades over what we have currently.

not blowing up the roster,

but we have several holes to fill. I would not be looking to unload Fitz, but if they can improve the team overall it is worth looking at. 5 wins is not acceptable and some change is necessary.

If we were to trade Fitz for two 1st Round picks or whatever

Then I would be in full support of drafting A.J. Green with the 1st Round pick. I mean, it would be perfect timing and all, considering we’d just traded Fitz and A.J. Green is coming out of College.

If we trade Fitz. Not saying it’ll happen.

by Skii on Jan 26, 2011 2:55 PM MST up reply actions

No, just no

If you can get the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 picks in this draft, then you can have fitz

by jeff550 on Jan 29, 2011 10:13 AM MST reply actions

Wait just a minute

I think the Fitz is only player to be the face of the Cardinals since moving to Arizona at least, and he looks good catching the rock. Maybe Larry Centers…Fitz is much better. Jake Plummer…come on. Kurt Warner doesn’t count…he played here after winning a Super Bowl somewhere else, and only was here for a few years.

You can’t trade him. He is the face of the team.
You have to access the psychological effects, man.

It seems like fans of almost every team in the NFL are begging for Fitz to come to them
