Around SBN: Roy Nelson Willing to Pay for His Next Opponent's Drug Test

Youth movement is a must

After another disappointing loss with a ridiculous negative to positive ratio on both sides of the ball, and with someone calling the local wrap up broadcast and speaking of a message board that fans are saying that the Whiz's seat has a cooling issue (total pun intended,) and it's warming up.  With the season at 1-5 taking the same approach is just plain not gonna work, technically we still are not out of the divison race just yet.

Time to go young at the LB position.    Let's face it at least when we were the OLB nursing home for Berry and Okeafor we got an edge rush and less the desirable coverage, now that Haggans and Porter are in the "home" we have one LB who seems to have far too many Alzheimeresque plays as he gets deeper into his twilight. (Miller on a TD and taking the play off when your 3 steps away from a sure sack are the freshest) and a former edge rushing menace who has not been terrible, but isn't really gonna help any defense win.  As the title says it is time to purge the nursing home and bring in a new tandem.  I'd like to have an official nickname on ROTB for O'Brien Schofield and Sam Acho by the Ravens game.  So far what I have collected is that Acho is brilliant but needs time to loosen up and adjust to the way he is going to play at this level (Mr. Lott I have full faith in your ability to get him where he needs to be physically) and Schofield has already shown an ability to get after the passer, but according to the coaching staff he is apparently pretty thick, in the skull department.  Darly Washington is showing us he is here to make Dansby nothing but a distant memory...nuff said. Lenon is not going to get any better...Nuff said.  I don't know what to say about Bradley he may be our defensive version of Beanie.  No sense in wasting time on our 3 LB's over 30 as they will not get any better, however they will make for great depth in the event that our new tandem can make some serious noise. (Which we all know they are capable of)

haggans has been one of our best defenders this year.

he had a great game on sunday, don’t know why you’re so critical of him.

also, that TD pass to heath miller was not on haggans, he was playing his zone.

he didn’t take the play off when ben faked him out either, it was just a great play by ben. Hardly anyone in the league is taking out ben on that play.

I disagree

If you look at pressure numbers, he is doing well, but his pressures are not affecting throws. He is missing the QB. He’s He’s not awful, but the pressure numbers are misleading. Porter? I think someone forgot to tell him he retired.

Why do u guys care about pressure numbers

When kolb is getting pressured 10 times a game, but when haggans gets 5 QB pressures, u think it’s pointless. Haha make up your mind! He’s been one of our best defenders this year, plain and simple. Who’s been better? Dwash, Jefferson, maybe Calais?

The fact that Haggans is one of our best defenders speaks volumes

to just how god awful our D has been. because neither Haggans nor Porter start on 31 other teams.

He started really hot, but since then has slowed. He would start for about half the 34 teams in the league. There are not that many elite 3-4 backers sitting around. He would start in Buffalo, he would start in Green Bay (Opposite Matthews), he might start for the Jets, Haggans is your league average player.

Honestly I get why he gets some hate, but when you leave guys like Dan Williams alone it makes no sense. Dockett was nowhere on Sunday, Porter did jack all. At least Haggans was making a few plays here and there.

Post coming about

why we must get rid of Dockett he has proven to be ineffective as 3-4 DE and Dan Williams is our new Levi.

Maybe it's

the lack of our OLBs making noise like a few other 3-4’s around the league, but they need to start letting him shoot gaps every now and then to return to the guy that was keeping o-linemen from a good nights sleep. Maybe 3-5 a game and I’ll bet Dockett takes 1 sack in that amount of plays.

Thing is he does that anyway, it is not like we strictly ask him to play two gaps, in fact he rarely actually plays two gaps.

He tends to, in times when the Cards really need a play, to go looking for a play, and will go outside of the scheme to do so. It is these such plays that really end up hurting the Cardinals, because he takes himself out of the play so often, and teams know he is going to do that and take advantage.

by khodder on Oct 27, 2011 2:32 AM MDT up reply actions

Totally agree

Dockett not taking his guard and tackle allows the previous mentioned guard and tackle to consume our LB’s forcing our secondary to move up and leave us vulnerable, again if he can’t accept his new role, then trade him while he is still worth something.

Dan has been horribly ineffective this season. Darnell has still made plenty of plays, but he really struggled on Sunday against the Steelers OL.

The thign is our QB runs away at the slightest sign of pressure, others step into the pocket and then make the throw.

Makes the pressure we create look worthless and the pressure we conceed look unstoppable, despite the actual pass rusher not doing a lot different.

Well right now I am not even sure if I agree with what I said, going to look at it again tonight, but it could very well be on Jefferson. It does look like he is doing something opposite to the rest of the defense.

by khodder on Oct 26, 2011 1:30 PM MDT up reply actions

Replied to wrong comment. This is in relation to the Miller TD.

by khodder on Oct 26, 2011 1:30 PM MDT up reply actions

Yea but was he supposed to play zone?

I think he was supposed to be in man and thought zone. I’m gonna rewatch the game in a bit so ill try to find out.

by cgcardzfan on Oct 25, 2011 4:47 PM MDT via mobile up reply actions

Everyone was in zone

The safety had to get over, he didn’t. He held up because of a receiver running up the seam.

by forget on Oct 25, 2011 5:19 PM MDT via mobile up reply actions

I'm gonna look at the play,

but when it happened, I thought it was probably Wilson’s fault.

I thought it might have been on Jefferson at one stage, but have amended it to Wilson. It looks like a 2 deep or 3 deep scheme. Either or, the area that the ball was caught was the responsibility of Adrian’s.

My best guess is it is a 3 deep zone with two guys in the flats, 4 man rush and the last two in man coverage.

Peterson/Johnson/Wilson in a deep third each.

Haggans and I think Porter in the flats.

Jefferson and one other in man coverage, the other 4 rush the passer.

I just call them Acho and Scho

Hoping to see more of them next week. With how that Ravens O-Line looked I think they could get some real pressure on Flacco too.

Young or old, it does not matter.

If this team can’t pick up the tempo on both sides of the ball they lose.

It looks like slo-mo is the scheme and theme. I know the Cards are still trying to overcome a short training camp and new players are still adjusting but this is rediculous. By my clock we are coming up on game 7, how about playing something with a quick step?

If they practice it, speed will come! (and maybe some wins too)

Yep. We hardly have a chance to make the playoffs.

And even at the very slim chance we do. Then what? We should be developing for the long term. People want us to be good now but Id be perfectly fine with baby steps. As long as we get a little better each game. Which I think in a way we have been. The opponents have just been getting tougher. But it the only way to learn. The tougher games will help us in the future.

Well Id like to see it come together by the end of the year.

As long as they keep improving no matter how small Ill stick with it. But i would give them a full offseason and at the end of next year I would make my judgements.

We looked very good yesterday when Stewart Bradley lined up as a 4-3 end, and Campbell and Docket played DT, Campbell owned the guards he was lining up against, late in the first half he had three pressures on three plays.

by khodder on Oct 26, 2011 1:32 PM MDT reply actions

that 2-4-5

has been rather effective, which speaks volumes to the ineffectiveness of Dan Williams.

The time has come!

Hopefully last game is an indication of things to come because we saw more snaps for both Schofield and Acho. At this point you really almost can’t do any worse then what Porter/Haggans are giving our defense. Sure Haggans has been MEH sometimes but all one needs to do is look at our sack/pressure numbers for the OLB position and then tell me Schofield and Acho shouldn’t be getting a large % of snaps. Plus Porter gets eaten on run plays, so we don’t really lose anything there either. Whisenhunt needs to get past his rookie fear and let the young guys get their game time! This season could only be 1 game worse as it is (In the win column).
