Five More Positives from the Arizona Cardinals/Philadelphia Week Nine Game
Vegas had us as MAJOR underdogs. Obviously Michael Vick, LeSean McCoy and DeSean Jackson were going to tear our defense apart and spank the lowly Cardinals...
Guess not as none of the that happened due to an excellent showing by the Arizona Cardinals defense which snubbed the Eagles like Vick use to snub d... Ummm, that's slightly tasteless so I'm not going to finish that sentence just like how the Eagles can't finish a game... Sorry again, I'll stop talking about how bad the Eagles are despite spending the most money in free agency and having supposedly the best trio of CB's. It's not like they gave up 3 TD's and 300 yards to a second year player out of a tiny school... oh wait, they did. I mean John Skelton even gave them a INT for TD as a charity gift he felt so bad for them!
Suckers.
Ok enough of my bad humor, on to the five positives for the game!
1) Calais Campbell: After an epic blocked kick he follows it up a fantastic INT at the timeliest of moments (in our own redzone). What will Super Man do next? Score a TD? Oh my, Whisenhunt put the man at tailback!
2) Daryl Washington: If Calais is Super Man, who is DWash? Batman? Captain America? Quail Man? Again Mr. Washington had another great game, registering 10 total tackles, 9 of them being solo. He was menaced Vick all game long and played at an elite level for a second straight game. I already ordered my black Washington jersey (yeaaaah boy!)
3) Pass defense: Our pass defense came in ranked 29th in the league in pass yards allowed per game, against the Eagles they allowed a measly 123. The pass defense did get some help from DWash, Campbell, Sam Acho and O'Brien Schofield who together held Michael Vick to one of his worst outings ever - a 32.5 QB rating with 2 picks and no TD's.
4) John Skelton: The second year player out of Fordham 'gone done it again!' While at times it was very ugly (started out 4-12 passing) he made up for every mistake with an even bigger play and despite throwing two costly INT's he bounced back to throw 3 TD's, two to our main man Larry Fitzgerald and the last one being the game winner to Early Doucet. The kid has moxy.
5) Larry Fitzgerald: If Campbell is Super Man and Dwash is... oh never mind. Larry had his best game of the season with 7 receptions for 146 yards and 2 TD's. He averaged 20.6 yards a catch with a long of 42 that put the team in position to win the game. Larry also became the franchise leader in TD's. The guy is unbelievable.
Now, on to the 49ers and week of arguing over the starting QB!
xoxo

Roberts
Next year we don’t start Roberts until the second half of the season.
Yesterday he seemed to remember that he is a receiver and not a db trying to knock down balls. I wanted him SO fired after last week’s game.
If I remember correctly he didn’t start looking good until the last 4 or 5 games last season. (At least we have someone good to watch returning punts this year)

Skelton was wobbled early but came back in the late rounds to land three haymakers to the head of Philly and the Eagles lost on a unanomous decision.

First team win.
Yeah they have 3 W’s but this one was won in all phases of the game. Each unit contributed to the win. D-wash is one bad man. A-dub is playing the way he did a few years ago. To bad the pick got called back. Thats 2 or 3 times to him this year. Acho is looking more and more like he can be a force. He too was all over the place. One bad mistake when Vick overthrew celeck wide open. Lenon was caught sleeping. Big break there that Vick cant throw. Other than that, the play of the D was outstanding. The AJ Marshall project came through didnt get beat. PP21 is going to be a superstar.
The O-line did a pretty decent job. Not great, but not bad.
Big John made a couple of terrible decisions, but I blame the play calling on the pick six.
Which brings me to my only negative…the play calling. 1st and goal from the 1 and they run 2 stretch running plays? To the eagles strengths? Give Beanie the ball and go up the middle!!!!!!!!!Get him behind a lead blocker and go up the middle!!!!!! I believe that the announcers mentioned how poor the eagles are up the MIDDLE!!!!!!!! And who calls a quick out inside the 20 when the DB is squatting on the route! Yes skelton should have recognized the coverage, but Asante has been doing that for years!!!!!! It wasnt like they couldnt have run the ball up the MIDDLE that series!!!!! Up the middle with Beanie instead of Larod! Whew. Sorry. good game cards. Good to see the d dominate a game.
Blame the play calling on the pick six??
Wow, just wow.

You need to pay attention guys.
Go back and look at the play and think of what you see. First down at about the 15. The DBs had bracketed coverage on Fitz. This is a play that Warner, Brady, Ben, Rodgers, Brees, Rivers, even maybe Kolb and most other QBs would audible out of. That being said, is the pick directly on Skelton? Yes he threw the ball. Should he have been put in that situation? No way! Why not? Well ask yourself this…is Skelton a top tier QB? No. How often has Skelton called an audible like he should have there? When they lined up in that formation with no back in the back field, I turned to my wife and said this is going to be bad news. Skelton was looking to Fitz all the way. Even in the game breakdown later that night, they pointed out that either that play should not have been called or skelton should have audibled out of that play. They compared it to the safeties that he took last week. Ball on the 2 yard line, most teams power run the ball up middle to get a little breathing room. Not the Cards they pass on first down. Billick couldnt understand why they wouldnt run beanie up the middle or even a play action with a quick drop to a TE while the LBs are up close to get at the QB. Is the choice to throw the ball on Skelton in that situation? Yes, but you guys miss the point that he, being a young QB who doesnt always make the best choice or make the best throw, is going to be very prone to making a mistake in that situation, and should not be put in that situation by the play calling. Want to argue more? Go look at the 49ers, who I hate, and they are winning with Alex Smith. This is the same guy that everyone said was worthless and would be gone in a week with Harbaugh. Yet he just might make the superbowl and probowl. If anyone disagrees…well think back to the cards a few years ago. They are winning because the coaches are putting him in situations where he can succeed and minimize his mistakes. Dilfer, Johnson ring any bells? What about Cutler? I think Skelton did a beautiful job. Not many come back after that pick. He did it twice. The other was a terrible throw. Again, though into bracketed coverage where he has to be spot-on accurate. Tough to ask of a kid with his skill set. With more time I hope he turns into something special
Advice to Skelton:
Pad your resume kid, you aren’t appreciated in this town, plus you make the boss look bad.
Let me know where you get an opportunity and I’ll write you a good recommendation letter. Frisco could use a guy like you. Just saying.
Are you an AZ fan?
I’m beginning to wonder…
Where do you get this stuff?

Stuff? This is gold!
I’m just saying that you don’t know what you have ‘till it’s gone.
He's unofficially the starter though.
Kolb (the official starter) gets a free pass to appreciation. (well, not exactly free, but a pass)
I don't appreciate Kolb
He isn’t good…. He has gotten us 1 win. The only QB I appreciate recently for the Cardinals are Warner and Plummer.
Agreed...kinda
a lot if not all of those losses could be blamed on the defense and Jay “where the hell is that one goin’” feeley. The minnesota game yes. thats on Kolb. The steelers are just the better team and I am as shocked as the rest of the nation that they were with in 2 touchdowns. The others though…Seattle he threw the last ditch effort pick. Feeley missed 2 or 3 FGs and Kolb would have been running out the clock instead of trying to win it. Skins game…Stuckey fumbles the ball. The Defense gives up over 100 yards rushing in the 4th alone! And of course the Ravens. Kolb was managing the game. Beanie was pounding the ball. D goes comatose in the 4th. Yet the cards had a shot. For some reason they stopped running Beanie. Not sold on Kolb but the losses are not all on him. Warner and Plummer. Just think how good plummer might have been with a good team? Still dont know why Broncos traded him after going to AFC title game. That close to the superbowl.
