I know I'm a "Kolb Hater" but here is a break down on why Skelton is a better option at QB for the Cardinals going forward:
Before I start the comparison, I want a moment of silence for ALL of the people who said "Wait for Skelton to go to Philly and suck it up" *PAUSE*.................................................. Thank you.
2011 Wins/Games Started
Kevin Kolb: 7 Games Started 1 Win.
No matter the excuse you guys have for Kolb's losses (O-line, Defense) or Skelton's wins (Defense/ST) you have to realize we play better when Skelton is at the helm, Simple as that. You can play the blame game all you guys want, but you are ignoring the fact that Skelton gets the job done and Kevin Kolb can't.
Total QBR:
Total QBR is a quarterback rating that takes into account all of a quarterback's contributions (passing, rushing, sacks, fumbles, penalties) to his team's scoring and winning and summarizes them into one number on a 0-100 scale.
100-70 Elite QBs 70-60 2nd Tier Qbs 60-50 Above AVG/AVG 50-0 Below AVG
If youre not familiar with the stat here is ESPN's FAQ on it : http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/6909058/nfl-total-qbr-faq
NFL AVG: 51.1, NFL BEST:88.0 - (Aaron Rodgers)
John Skelton- AVG: 51.4 ([17th] out of 35), BEST :53.9
Kevin Kolb- AVG: 33.1 ([30th] out of 35), BEST:52.0
I know the sample size is small for Skelton, but I'm more interested in Kolb's QBR. 3 out of the 7 weeks he played, he was in the bottom 7 QBS. 2 of those 3 weeks he was in the Bottom 3 QBs. With the same Shaky O-Line and ZERO garbage time (few of Kolb #'s came in garbage time.) Skelton has managed to throw half as many TDs as Kolb in 2 games and Post the same amount of 300 yd games.
Stretching the Field:
Passes Thrown 11-20 yds:
Skelton: CMP:7 ATT:11 YDS:131 CMP%:63.6 TD:1 INT:0 RAT:135
Kolb: CMP:20 ATT:43 YDS:435 CMP%:46.5 TD:2 INT:2 RAT:79.1
Skelton wins this category too, he takes shots down field and keeps the defense honest. Unlike Kolb who is conservative and does all of his work 10 yards - to behind the line of scrimmage. Another intersting stat to look at is Kolb's passes thrown 21-30 yds.
Passes Thrown 21-30 yds:
Kolb: CMP:4 ATT:14 YDS:116 CMP%:28.6 TD:0 INT:3 RAT:22.0
I don't think Kolb is as good as everybody hypes him up to be.He is a game MANAGER not a GAME CHANGER. To me he looks like identical twins to Matt Leinart when moving the offense.
Mobility/Size:
I don't have to argue much here. We all know Skelton avoids the pass rush and makes things happen with his legs. Unlike Kolb to just seems to have a magnetic jersey that attracts defenders and the turf.
Skelton is a big dude and sees the field well and takes what the defense gives him (on the ground). When I watch Kolb play sometimes it seems like he struggles to see the WRs and often gets the ball batted down at the line of scrimmage.
3RD DOWNS:
Skelton:

The numbers don't lie, Skelton is a better passer on 3rd down. The big # to look at here is **AVG**. Kevin Kolb's numbers are okay but take a closer look. On 3rd and 8-10 his AVG is 5.2 yds (Not a first down) on 3rd and 11+ his AVG is 5 (Not a first down) and on 3rd and <6 his avg is 5.7 (Almost a first down). I have watched Kolb fail to convert TOO many times, I have watched too many 3 and outs.Skelton is averaging a 1st down when completing a pass on 3rd down and the offense seems to move more smoothly with him. When you watch Skelton he can move us up and down the field, with or without Beanie.
Who is the best WR in the NFL? Larry Fitzgerald. Who gives that player the ball on a regualr basis? John Skelton.
TDS with Skelton: 3 (2 Games)
TDS with Kolb: 2 (7 Games)
Now before you say ohhhh Early has more TDS and Kolb is spreading the ball around (which is true) I have a simple answer.... That had us at 1-6. Skelton feeding Fitz the ball : 2-0.
Examples: The Lions. They wouldn't be where they are if Stafford desnt get Megatron the ball. Baltimore wouldn't of beat us if they didn't give Anquan the ball. Cam Newton and the Panthers wouldn't be where they are if Steve smith doesn't touch the ball. I can go on and on. Why did we make the superbowl? It wasnt cause our D or O-Line. It was cause of Kurt and Fitz. They single handedly punished defenses.
So before you back up Kolb with Early Ducet's #s please realize Fitzgerald takes games over and there is a reason we pay him that money.
AGE:
Skelton: 23
Kolb: 27
Skelton is 4 years younger than Kolb. Kolb has 2 years of experience on Skelton. But the young gun has looked better and showed he has a larger upside to his game.
Clutch:
Do I have to argue here? Because we all know who is and who isn't.
Im sorry for all of you Mister and Misses Kolb wannabes. I know its hard to soak in.... but we made a mistake trading for him. I didn't want to jump the gun on Kolb but after watching this team play with Skelton at QB I have realized he has gives us the best chance to win and has far more potential then Kolb.
I am not saying Skelton is Aaron Rodgers, but I am simply saying he is better than Kevin Kolb.
