Arizona Cardinals - St. Louis Rams Fan Thread: Round 2

                                                       via www.cinemagora.co.uk

Hello once again Arizona Cardinals fans! I hope everyone had a safe and great Turkey Day?

I'm here once again to talk Cardinals - Rams football prior to the game this Sunday at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis. It's only been a couple of week's since the teams met in Arizona. I don't know about you guys, but our Rams team is in what could easily described as a "mix - match, and cross your fingers" stage. Have a look at recent offensive line moves and you'll see what I mean...

Here's a quote or two from a recent article over at TST:

To get some experience on the edges, the Rams will move right guard Harvey Dahl to the right tackle spot, Adam Goldberg to the left side, with Jason Brown replacing Dahl at right guard, according to KFNS

The move leaves Tony Wragge at center, who came in for a benched Jason Brown some time ago. Jacob Bell stays at left guard. Dahl has experience playing tackle; he did it in college and for a few reps during a stint with the San Francisco 49ers

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and the Rams are out of offensive tackles with third/fourth stringer Mark LeVoir on the shelf. They added Thomas Welch, a former Patriot, who was on the Bills' practice squad last week.

Excuse me a second while I wipe away a few man tears... Steady Doug!... Added to the "how about trying this?" offensive line cha-cha going on, we added even more names to our injury list with Marquis Johnson returning to IR That's right another corner back, and it's Johnson's second time on IR this season. This time it's for a lacerated Spleen... wimp! ...Returning to the IR list for an encore is WR Mark Clayton, who returned to the team for the first time since early last season... Three catches for 26 yards and done!

Now that I think about it, the Arizona Cardinals really could face a different team Sunday? Groan!

So how are thing out in AZ? Is your front office looking into moving their 401ks like ours? Is your head coach editing a "HotJobs" resume like a certain St. Louis Rams coach? Is your team owner using the "Arsenal Management Model" as he considers moves to improve his team? Is the hottest gift idea on "Black Friday" a short seppuku sword like it is for Rams fans? Then there is of course the biggest question of all: Kolb?

If all the above isn't enough to stimulate a query state of mind, how about this: Give me your rounds 1 thru 4 picks in the 2012 draft for not only the Arizona Cardinals, but who you would pick if you were the St. Louis Rams GM?

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Revenge of the Birds' (ROTB) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of ROTB's editors.

OL needs to be the top priority this offseason

And Martin or Kalil both look to be Elite LT prospects in the NFL. I would prefer Martin over Kalil, but I would take either.

We all bleed Cardinal Red, but most of us don't recognize it!

Gotta question you on why you think Carolina drafts RB in the first round?

When they have Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams. I can agree with the rest of the picks though.

I would expect a defensive player

Considering how many games they’ve lost due to defensive mistakes.

I agree

But they are also without John Beason…

by Airwave on Nov 26, 2011 1:47 AM MST up reply actions

Well I'm not sure how they draft

Whether draft based on need or draft the best player available in the draft at that time. So I just threw him in there.

I hate the thought

Of Indianapolis getting Andrew Luck. They’ve had Peyton Manning for 10 years, and for 10 years they haven’t had to improve their team at all. Peyton Manning to them is Kurt Warner to us, he hid all their problems.

Now they get Andrew Luck who’ll make them amazing again for the next 15 years? Why do they get so lucky? Why can’t we be this lucky?

I really have no idea but it is some BS

I am not hoping Luck fails in the league or anything but come on…. Really?

That IR list is insane

So Offensive Line wise, are you guys feeling like the Niners fans after Sizzle decided to have a performance that would give Alex Smith nightmares right now?

It's bordering on the surreal... Two linemen inside of a week tear their pectorl muscles and are out for the season...

… The week before that, Cadillac Williams gets injured running onto the field – completely untouched, he didn’t even make it to the huddle.
People in St. Louis are going to start the whole “grassy knoll” thing very soon…

by Douglas M on Nov 25, 2011 6:34 PM MST up reply actions

Would you classify most of these injuries as freak injuries?

Or have the Rams been picking up guys who have a history of injuries? Or how much would you attribute this to the lock out (I see so many players injured this year)?

by Airwave on Nov 25, 2011 7:06 PM MST up reply actions

I hnestly don't know why all these injuries, and increased number of inuries have occured across the NFL this year.

Here’s a “grassy knoll” theory for you:
I read a wildly speculative article about a month ago. In it, the author wondered if players that had used performance enhancing drug and steroids stopped taking them due to warnings their agents and teams gave them about the new CBA containing strict new testing programs.
Is it possible that so many players took these drugs, and quitting them revealed how much more fragile they are without them? I doubt it.
My thinking is we are finally seeing the effect of players not staying in true performance shape during the off season, and how much off season mini-camps really mean.

by Douglas M on Nov 25, 2011 7:25 PM MST up reply actions

Yeah I don't know enough about PHDs to answer that confidently

But I personally think it has to be because there was no true off season, as you mentioned. All I know is the rams IR list is just sad to look at, and I am not even a fan of the Rams….

by Airwave on Nov 25, 2011 11:55 PM MST up reply actions

Win or lose, as a Rams fan, I say unleash Long and Quinn.

Teams know how to stop the niners now and it really should never have been a question. Just knock out Alex Smith.

All their bragging about how tough they are

And they got punched in the mouth by the Ravens, and they just sat there and took it.

Going to be really interesting to see if you guys can have the same success against our run game

As you did in our first meeting. Beanie looked majorly effected by his injury but that is still no excuse!

by Airwave on Nov 25, 2011 7:09 PM MST reply actions

With our "new and improved" OL, I'm not really sure if Steven Jackson will be able to run at all Sunday.

If you look at the re-aligned OL, it seems better suited to pass protection than it does toward making the run O more effective.
How’s Kolb looking for this Sunday?

by Douglas M on Nov 25, 2011 7:30 PM MST up reply actions

Better, it was looking like he was going to be able to go for most of this week

But now it sounds like they might give Skelton another start.

I would think he will start

Unless the coaching staff feels that a chance of a setback outweighs him not having to worry about that. He is really anxious to get out there and it is just up to the coaches at this point, if you ask me. I think they are worried about a setback tough so I can see Skelton getting another start probably more than I can see Kolb starting.

We need to trade down for a bounty,

and then see if we can get another small bounty for the 1st round pick we trade down for.

I think it just depends on how the draft day goes

If the players they want aren’t on the board trade back and pick up a pick. I am not opposed to either because I really wish we had our 2nd rounder….

by Airwave on Nov 25, 2011 11:58 PM MST up reply actions

Is it fair to say the Cardinals have never been afraid to make trades or moves?

I have wondered about a few players they have taken into key positions that are at the end of their careers. While Kurt Warner worked out well, others that left (Faneca) left holes that the team that were tough to fill on short notice.
I mention this because the Rams have been doing something similar of late, (OLB, DT) and it hasn’t worked out well.
Do you think relying on older, ready to retire players has hurt the core development of both teams?

by Douglas M on Nov 26, 2011 10:27 AM MST reply actions

Well I can personally tell you that OLB is one position recently where this team took too long to move on

Playing the corpse of Joey Porter for as long as we did was really gimping the team. It seems like the team generally doesn’t have the players to replace to the old guys so Whiz sticks to what he thinks works best. Clark Haggans still sees lots of playing time as well when it would be nice to see another young gun out there developing instead of a position in decline. We will find out what will be done at the safety position when A dubs time comes (ahhh I hate even typing those words). I don’t think the Cardinals have done a good job recently replacing holes with younger talent. I am fairly certain it has hurt the core of the team, yes.

They are going with experience over talent IMO

Hello rams fans!

Just took a loooong bus ride and got into St. Louis late this night. Gotta say, St. Louis is a very nice city! I’m very excited to go to Edward Jones Dome for the game tomorrow(today), hopefully to see a Cardinals victory though! Just a couple questions, Where abouts should we go after the game is over to see the Cardinals and possibly get an autograph? and secondly, do you have any suggestions for a restaurant to go to after the game is over, preferably within walking distance of the stadium?
Any who, thanks in advance and hopefully tomorrow(today) is a good game!
