Cardinal Of The Week: Week Twelve

Record Setter (Photo by Dilip Vishwanat/Getty Images)

These are so much more fun to do after a win, especially when two of the guys that will be on this list just made it into the record books after the Cardinals notched a 23-20 win against the Rams on Sunday.

Last week, because of how bad the game was, I just did a poll asking who played the worst, and you guys went with John Skelton with 49% picking him. That result will not go into the overall results for these polls.

Star-divide

Beanie Wells - 27 carries, 228 yards, touchdown

What a day for Beanie. He has been slowed by a knee injury for weeks, and then he breaks out for a career high 228 yards, which shattered his previous career high of 138 against the Giants earlier this season. He also broke LeShon Johnson's franchise record of 214 yards from 1996 against the New Orleans Saints. I'm not sure about this, but I believe Beanie also had the second highest rushing total for any back of the season behind the 253 on 25 carries that DeMarco Murray had for the Cowboys against the Rams earlier this season.

Patrick Peterson - Five tackles, 80 yard Punt Return touchdown

And of course, on a game that was called by Sam Rosen, Patrick Peterson gets his NFL record tying fourth Punt Return for a score tying Devin Hester and a couple of other players in the fourth game the Cardinals have had this season called by Rosen. Just an incredible accomplishment for the rookie who still has a chance to break the record with five games left in the season.

Sam Acho - Two sacks, three tackles, two forced fumbles, fumble recovery

Somewhat forgotten about with the huge plays by Beanie and Peterson, rookie Sam Acho also had a solid game sacking Sam Bradford twice, and forcing a fumble on one of those sacks.

This is a tough poll for me to pick in, you really could go either way with Beanie and Peterson although I would give Beanie the edge right now.

Omg how am I supposed to choose!?!?!?!?

I think this week I will give the game ball to Beanie Wells. He looked really really good early on and then once he had his Paul Piece incident he came in and buster a 50+ yard run on the first play. Setting the Cardinals rushing record is an amazing feat. I give it to Beanie for roughing it out after he clearly was hobbled towards the end of the game.

Of course it is almost a tie for me with both Acho and PP. PP setting the franchise record and tying the single season record of the NFL in just 11 games…. If PP had a shut down day at corner it would have been his ball.

Oh btw Joe, Acho had 2 sacks, not 3. If you wan’t to adjust that that is. Still doesn’t take away from the great game he had. I would love to know his production vs other 4th round OLBs drafted in the past. Sure, he went against some backups, but he still had an amazing day.

cool

I voted for Wells obviously. Lets see how he responds to this game in the next one. I was for sure that he would go off after those 3 TDs against the Giants but nope he regressed. Lets hope he builds off this game. Anyone else think we should sit Beanie against Dallas so he is ready for the Niners? I think we should, and we should give Smith around 25 touches…he looked pretty darn good in his couple runs against the rams. That pitch from Skelton where Smith ran down the strongside and hit that defender with a nasty stiff arm lol, that play really got me wanting to see a little more Alfonso. Not to mention he looked solid when he stepped in for Beanie last time and then hasnt seen the feild since.

What about D-Wash?

Even though Acho got a couple of sacks, PP21 had a return TD, D-wash played the best game of all the defenders. He was an animal. He was every where. Without his play, I think it would have been a loss for da Cards. The Cards D as a whole played great. The weak links again were the secondary. PP21 got abused on quite a few plays. At least he didnt get burned deep. I think. Anyway, I think that Washington should have been on the list. He made several tackles for loss or tackles that prevented a first down. Why is Lenon still playing? Did anyone see him get run over by Jackson and Norwood? He got run over! Just another thought. Beanie however gets the game ball with the O-line right behind him.

I have no problem with Washington

However, history was made for two players so to me it goes to one of them. Washington is literally always a beast IMO I know he will go out and do his thang out there on Sundays. I love the guy, one of my favorites on the team.

Yeah, I forgot to delete that part

Normally, when I do these things I copy the titles from the week before and just change the date. Accident on my part.

Poll is a lot more lopsided than I expected

I was thinking Peterson would at least be closer

To me

Peterson needed to have a better game at CB to get the game ball. That is just my opinion though. They both did something great though.

Against Brandon Marshall and playing within the concepts of the defense

Petersen had a pretty good game at CB. But Beanie did something no other Cardinal has ever done ever!!

I was at this game

yesterday and it was a really good one to watch. Wells definitely worked harder than ever and made this a winning game. Even after letting the Rams come back towards the end they were able to just keep getting a few first downs and running time off the clock. The crowd went crazy on their Rams TD return but pretty much it was wiped out with Peterson getting his return. Skelton did fine and his two throws although a bit high were tipped and not really his fault for being intercepted. The defense got beat a couple of times on Bradford’s passes but they held up til the end. The offensive line opened up some running lanes but got beat a couple of times for some pressure and sacks. Wells wins this week for sure.
