I don't think we need a pass rusher at OLB or DL.

I think that Schofield and Acho can get it done with the talent we have on the D-Line and the secondary. I would prefer we draft at least one good tackle and then look to FA to find another one. And we could sign a #2 WR, but the only guys that you listed that might actually want to go here is VJax and Bowe, and both of those are unlikely.

by RedFury08 on Nov 28, 2011 2:49 PM MST reply actions

we need a freak OLB

and we’ll be good! Now we just gotta find one…

by forget on Nov 28, 2011 8:32 PM MST up reply actions

Maybe Acho or Schofield can be a "freak" linebacker.

These guys are getting their first chance to show what they can do. We shouldn’t just undermine their development and waste a draft pick on another OLB. #1 need is a LT. The rest are luxuries, although a good #2 WR and a new kicker (sorry Jay, you’re just not cutting it) would help a bit.

by RedFury08 on Nov 29, 2011 6:07 PM MST up reply actions

They're not freaky enough

I want a 6’4 260 pound guy that can do 35 bench reps and has a 36 inch vert…and if possible, a 6’10 wingspan

by forget on Nov 29, 2011 8:48 PM MST via mobile up reply actions

We don't need to use a pick on one right now.

Our focus in the draft and FA should be to improve the offensive tackle spots, pick up a good #2 WR, and make Kolb feel very comfortable with the offense. We should probably draft Wilson’s successor in the draft, but we don’t really need to add any other defensive players. Also, we either need to draft or sign a kicker to replace Feely, preferably a rookie so we have a chance at getting a “franchise” kicker. However, it isn’t super pressing.

by RedFury08 on Nov 29, 2011 9:37 PM MST up reply actions

With a 6th or 7th rounder? Heck yeah.

As much good findings we seem to have in the later rounds, I would rather take a chance on a good kicker prospect than a potential average-at-best player. We shouldn’t just rely on castoffs as kickers.

by RedFury08 on Nov 29, 2011 10:15 PM MST up reply actions

You never know how a rookie kicker will be able to handle the pressure

It’s best to evaluate kickers with tenure or pick an undrafted free agent up for a tryout in preseason

by cardinalbrown on Nov 29, 2011 10:17 PM MST up reply actions

I could see that.

Probably an unkown guy from some tiny school that’s kicking 70 yard field goals. That would fit their MO.

by hadrarius on Nov 29, 2011 10:29 PM MST up reply actions

That's the thing about kickers

Doesn’t matter at all what school where they come from. The guys from tiny schools shoot up the rankings the closer we get to draft day.

by tw3kr on Dec 1, 2011 12:51 AM MST up reply actions

6'4 with a 6'10 wingspan

Do you want an orangutan or a gorilla? Those would be some serious ape arms.

by hadrarius on Nov 29, 2011 9:51 PM MST up reply actions

Haha I'm jk

Just trying to get my point across, that we still need a dominate pass rusher. I just threw some ridiculous numbers out there

by forget on Nov 29, 2011 10:44 PM MST via mobile up reply actions

Definitely a need.

Schofield has been a bit of a disappointment thus far. Acho has been a pleasant surprise though. Has performed better than expected. Either is an improvement over Porter. I think Schofield will be alright. Just taking him longer to get it. A freak pass rusher would be awesome but I’d lay odds that they are fairly content to go forward with who they have. Can’t imagine that kind of player falling to us anyway.

by hadrarius on Nov 29, 2011 11:00 PM MST up reply actions

Schofield has struggled to learn Horton's playbook too

Acho is a very smart young man. I have faith in Schofield, but am really impressed with Acho

It is just amazing to me

That a 4th round LB can come in and have so much success with no offseason….. Major props to him. And it makes Schofields situation that much more frustrating. He really takes a while to adjust to things….

by Airwave on Nov 30, 2011 1:10 PM MST up reply actions

Horton did call him a genius.

His academic achievements back that up.

by hadrarius on Nov 30, 2011 7:18 PM MST up reply actions

I don't think we need to sign a big name player.

We’ll basically be getting upgrades at key positions with Toler, Williams, and Rhodes all coming back. On Offense we’ll be getting Williams back at running back so we should be good there.

I think the offensive line is the only position in need of a serious upgrade then adding depth else where (maybe a receiver with speed to take coverage off Fitz). Remember we could easily be 8-3 with the team we have in place now.

by Pyromnc on Nov 28, 2011 3:22 PM MST reply actions

I wouldn't mind getting Dwayne Bowe

Joe Saunders: "They played a really good game, so hats off to us"

by Skii on Nov 28, 2011 3:59 PM MST reply actions

He's a head case though...

We don’t need a head case on this team. We just need a number 2 that can draw some coverage away from Fitz.

by Pyromnc on Nov 29, 2011 1:12 PM MST up reply actions

Is he a head case?

Just wondering how people come up with some of this stuff.

by forget on Nov 29, 2011 1:22 PM MST via mobile up reply actions

That is pretty much true, haha

Bowe had some clashes with his coaches the first couple years, some work ethic problems, etc. Remember reading about one of Haley’s first real challenges: getting Bowe to be more of a team guy and to get him to do the work to be the player he should be able to be.

by tw3kr on Dec 1, 2011 12:54 AM MST up reply actions

Exactly what I was referring to.

He still has those problems. I’ve seen a few games this year where he seems to give up on plays. We don’t need a player like that.

by Pyromnc on Dec 1, 2011 10:25 AM MST up reply actions

I believe

That a bunch of that stuff is blown out of proportion by the media. I think Bowe gets unfairly slammed about “giving up” and stuff like that. He has that stigma about him so people are quick to say he’s just doesn’t care, and that he’s a bad teammate. I guess there are reasons people have preconceived notions about him, but they are probably overstated.

The media has so much power over people, they can basically destroy whoever they want (Suh) lol.

by forget on Dec 1, 2011 11:28 AM MST via mobile up reply actions

Who would

Dwayne Bowe is beast! But he is a number 1 WR and there is no way we could afford to pay him because KC is gonna offer him #1 receiver money that we cant match. The only real possibilities we have at picking up as far as WR FA is Branch, Wayne, Garcon, Manningham

by cgcardzfan on Nov 28, 2011 4:12 PM MST reply actions

I like vincent jackson and bowe

by Thbaz on Nov 28, 2011 4:18 PM MST via mobile reply actions

Pierre Garcon would be nice.

Cheapest and classier than a lot of the WR’s named.

by Alex Mann on Nov 28, 2011 4:30 PM MST reply actions

if breaston got 5 years 25 mil

i would bet Garcon demands a similar deal

by forget on Nov 28, 2011 8:30 PM MST up reply actions

In their current state, no.

But Kolb should improve with playing time and an offseason, and Skelton isn’t going to keep his play at the same level.

by RedFury08 on Nov 29, 2011 6:10 PM MST up reply actions

What are you talking about?

This team can’t rely on Beanie to win every game. Plus the last game was against St. Louis. It won’t happen again. We need as leader, a QB, to get this team to the playoffs, not some guy from Fordham, wherever the hell that is. Have you seen Denver? Tebow is kicking ass. Plus Gabbert isn’t doing half-bad in Jacksonville. If we would have drafted a QB, then Patrick Peterson wouldn’t have to be saving our ass every single game. I understand that Kolb and Skelton will get some-what better over time, but if we want change, we need it now.

by PatrickPetersonAZ on Dec 1, 2011 6:59 PM MST up reply actions

I would disagree

especially on the Gabbert part. One of my closest friends is a huge Jaguars fan, and he is very disappointed with Gabbert this year. People in Jaguar Land are starting to give up on him, like some people here are giving up on Kolb.
Tebow, like Skelton, isn’t kicking ‘ass’, he’s just winning games despite horrible play. Denver’s defense is playing lights out, Tebow is hardly responsible for them winning, but rather them not losing. Every QB coming into a new system will have their struggles, so just give them time. We can’t just keep changing to the next best thing, we have to stick with what we have and develop around it

I'll have you know that I am ultimately opposed to benching Kolb.

Besides, Jerry Rice came from a small school. Whoever becomes the better QB is whoever will start. However, we don’t know too much about Kolb. Change can be fast or slow, what matters is that it improves us. And believe me, the thing I would hate the most right now is if we won every game left on our schedule and don’t make the playoffs. Because you get lesser talent to pick from in the draft.

by RedFury08 on Dec 2, 2011 12:27 AM MST up reply actions

Tebow The defense is kicking ass

That is more like it.

by Airwave on Dec 2, 2011 12:46 AM MST up reply actions

It will be curious how the next free agency will go.

This year there was a glut of free agents and it hurt a lot of them. With new rules in place for rookie money it will be interesting to see how things might shake out differently for free agents as a result next time around. High priced FA’s are not the way to go. Hard to build a team that way. Whisenhunt is all about quality depth though, so I expect they will be looking to fill some voids at reasonable values. It appears they are already looking at wide receiver options on the cheap now. Why else bring up Jaymar Johnson?

by hadrarius on Nov 29, 2011 10:00 PM MST up reply actions

As of now notfeeling it for any expensive free agents. Our kid linebackers I feel will continue to grow. That terrible OL can use a stud from the draft. Free agent lineman college starting to pay off as seen in last weeks game. Horton’s defense needs a strong free safety, thoughts? are we set or do we look at draft or trade or free agency? Would love a guy like the steelers have now, and the cardinals in the old days had Larry wilson who started the whole safety blizt thing and played with two broken hands in a cast, and made an interception.

by naironpalm3 on Nov 30, 2011 8:23 AM MST reply actions

what's the point of getting a stud pass.....

rusher, when the offense is still broken, you stop the other team, and your offense comes in and on three downs its back to the defense,qb play has to improve, ryan williams has to return heathy,a punter who can pin the ball inside fifteen yard line or less.a-dub is great, but his replacement must be found a-dub must school and shape this player, also time for some assistant coaches that are already on the roster, that need to coach and not play i.e. porter, haggans, and holiday don’t just cut and throw away draft their replacements the same for todd heap.
