Arizona Cardinals: Not legit yet!

The cards still have a losers rap sheet as long as your arm. The only way to expunge their record and clear their name is by getting a court date and standing before the panel of judges at the Super Bowl. That is just the beginning. Then they must make their case in a convincing manner to be awarded the Golden W.

Kurt Warner came close to legitimizing the Arizona team, but fell short. After the Super Bowl loss the talking heads reverted back to the "playing over their heads" and "worst team to make it" talking points. So the loss was used to confirm pre-conceived perceptions promoted by the East Coast elite media.

Arizona Cardinals fans should use this next possible invitation to the playoffs as a rallying point for each of the last games of the Regular Season. This is your chance to rub the noses of the elite media in their own mess.

Many will not agree with me but, John Skelton the QB, looked more like John Wayne the gunslinger. The way he mosied out to the Line of Scrimage with a smile on his face to replace Kolb then proceeded to shoot down my Niners. "Mommy, make the bad man stop!!!"

Cardinals fans, believe it or not, you've got a good chance at redemption, not some day way off, but here and now! I'm talking this season. Every remaining game should be cause to break out the chips, wings, Scotch, and beer. Pull up a chair and sit on the edge of your seat. This is the year of miracles! Ask Tim Tebow! (shhhhhh, don't say anything to Jason Garrett!)

Do you Cardinals fans dare to expect your team to step up and pull off the impossible dream? Or am I just a romantic trying to boost my neighbors to "Think Big" and they will fall hard when their team gets dumped?

Where do you stand? Afraid to dream and have your hopes dashed or ready to jump on the Freedom Train?

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Revenge of the Birds' (ROTB) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of ROTB's editors.

Do I believe we can win the rest of our games?

No doubt in my mind. But the playoffs is a different story. It’s not up to us. Of course we have to live up to our part by winning the rest of our games, but even that is not enough to garuntee a playoff birth. We will be relying on the misfortune of several other teams throughout the rest of the season and relying on others is always hit or miss. We can get hyped up all we want, but fact is that what Coach Whiz said is true. It’s to early to be talking about playoffs and all that we can do is take it one game at a time.

Furthermore, your new favorite team has been in the basement of the NFC West for nearly a decade, and this one playoff appearance does not legitimize them either. I respect the Rice/Montana years but we don’t live in the past. Your team has been worse then mine over the past decade so let’s not pretend the Niners are an elite, legit team just yet.

This is not a Niner blog.

That is why I respectfully challenge Cardinals fans to stand up and cheer the accomplishments of the Arizona franchise. You guys are on the cusp! Drag your team with you across the line into the playoffs,

My team is in, I just want company! Come on Cards fans, will your team to victory! Running the table may be the ticket you are waiting for. It is possible!

The Cardinals bandwagoners that are “Lifelong Cards Fans” that are afraid to hope for good stuff to happen are really imposter sports fans who know nothing of sports, have never played them nor bled on the field of play. Real sports fan know the Queen of Victory and her beauty. We will always seek her appearance, even in the darkest hour.

Also, retiree doesn’t have favorite teams, only favorite coaches. His favorite coach is Jim Harbaugh and his least favorite coach is Ken Whisenhunt.

Why does everyone get so upset woth AZretiree.

We all know he is a Cards fan that hates Whiz. He just adopted the whiners a few months back during our down period.

If you don't have anything good to say about the Cards this season, you'd be correct.

Well when you call us out as bandwagon fans just because we aren't expecting to make the playoffs

After that 1-6 start is just pissing some people off. I watch every damn game and I won’t be told by someone who isn’t even a fan of my team that I don’t know anything about NOT ONLY the Cardinals but sports in general. He is free to post here as he likes but he can’t call out people like that, especially when he just jumps teams as he pleases. This, for me, has nothing to do with what team he is a fan of in particular.

I agree with Jessie Reynolds!

The Cards don’t have a snowballs chance!

In fact, he is correct, the Cards don’t even belong in the NFL, they are not good enough!

I have more faith in the Arizona Cardinals than Jessie Reynolds ever thought of having and I’m a Niners fan!

I can see Skelton kicking sand in the face of both the NFL Network and ESPN.

Jessie is afraid of being wrong. I don’t care! I want the underdog to prevail, screw logic and numbers. My gut tells me that Arizona is in it, to win it! Beyond that, they have the talent and are capable.

Excuse me Cardinals fans, I’m just a cranky old geezer and sometimes I lose it. I, again, apologize for my outburst.

Never mind, Jessie is correct and I’m wrong. Pessimism is king!

Other than that I’ve watched the worst of the worst week in and week out for years. I’ve also watched the best of the best. I live on the East coast and have always lived here and yet the Cards have been my team for 15 years. Prior to the Cards I was just a fan of the game for a long time… no team allegiances just loved the game. As a kid I was a Browns fan… growing up in Cleveland does that to you. What I’m trying to say is my allegiance to the Cards once I chose them has never waned and will never.

This team has beaten a few good teams on this streak they are on

It won’t be easy to win out but I believe this team can do it. Even still, they may not make the playoffs but if we finish 8-8 or better I will be pleased with the season. Not because of the record but because of the start we had and then for the team to rally and bounce back to an even record is a great feat. They have talent all over the roster and even if they can’t get in the playoffs this year they will be fighting for playoffs for years. If we get decent-good QB play we will be in all these remaining games and it’s up to the team to close to season out with 3 more wins.

They may not be "legit"

But people are starting to take notice. If we had only won one or two of the games at the beginning of the year (Redskins or Seahawks or Giants, etc.), we’d be in Playoff position.

That we would

At the time (of course it was still frustrating) I didn’t care much about how things transpired because we looked dead at 1-6. But…. now that we have won 5 of our last 6 it kills me to think about because we would be in great playoff position. I didn’t foresee the turnaround on defense at all and full credit goes to our D coordinator.

I love to see you guys pumped! Even if it's to call me out.

The Cards have beat good teams and should continue to do so. Two big games this week will be Arizona v/s Cleveland and the Steelers v/s the Niners.

Arizona should beat the Browns in a convincing fashion and I’m looking for the Niners to do the same to Pittsburgh.

SF pounding Big Ben’s boys would give more credibility to the Cardinals leading up to their playoff birth.

Cincinnati loses to teams that play D so I give that game to Arizona and the Seahawks look a bit weak (if their game versus the Rams is any indication) so that game I put in the Cardinals win column.

With both the Niners and Cards winning out, life is good.

Optimist? Why yes I am! (Hater? No!) I apologize to those I tweak, I agree, I’m as intelligent as a sack of sixteen penny nails but not as sharp.

Not going to happen, I don’t believe Smith has ever played against a LeBeau defense and that usually favors the Steelers. If Ben plays it is a win, if Chuck (Charlie Batch) plays it is a low scoring game that the Steelers still have a chance to win.

Side note: Do the 49ers have anyone that can stay with Mike Wallce, Antonio Brown, Emmanuel Sanders, Jerricho Cotchery, Hines Ward, and Heath Miller? Cause I think they lack the depth to cover that talent.

There’s a few I would rate higher… I think we have one of the best DL’s when it comes to prospects. Carter, Talley, Wiliams, etc. …you know the boys and the rest of the DL… anyway… By those boundaries I say the Cards are top 2. The collective DL and their performance now and soon to come is top 2 DL’s without question.

Okay all, if you would what are the best 1 to whatever depending on position on the O or D team by team:

Ex. O-line-Cards TE’s-Panthers etc. …. you get it right?

O-line
Te’s
Wr’s
Rb’s
Qb’s

When it comes to D just list your top D whatever no matter what D the team runs.

O-line: Houston
TE’s: Carolina
Wr’s: Packers
Rb’s: Raiders
Qb’s: Packers and a close 2nd Texans

D-line: Wow this is tough… but I’d go with in this order:
Bengals, Raven then the Jags.
Lb’s: Ravens
Cb’s: Packers
Safety: Cardinals

Kicker: Broncos
Punter: ’9er’s

Steelers are in deep trouble on Monday night!

Jim will be talking to John: “How did you kick Pittsburgh in the head twice?”

The MNF game will be a test of wills and strategy. I do not think Jimmy’s guys will let their coach down. Both teams have major injuries so it will be smash mouth, winner take all, as usual. I look for Alex Smith to be steady and if Big Ben gets the start he will not finish.

Big Ben started and finished, he is a beast!

This Steeler’s played the same team the Cards beat and lost. That in itself lends credibility to Arizona’s playoff chances.

If the Defense continues to play up to their potential Cincinnati will be toast and that leaves the big matchup of NFC West powerhouses; one led by Red Skelton and the Whiz, the other by Tavaris (Little Vick) Jackson and Rah Rah Carroll.

For NFL fans in the West, this is shaping up to be a great climax to the 2011 season. All looked lost with the Cards at 1-6.

Good job Jim Harbaugh, Ken Whisenhunt and Pete Carroll for making the NFC West relevant.

Cardinals do not need the Steelers!

Arizona will make their own mark. The Steelers are a Pittsburgh product, but the Cardinals are a typical Arizona transplant that are about to create their own identity. The football team that plays out of the desert will be made up of a bunch of NFL saddle tramps just trying to survive the elements, including their coach. Whiz is making headway!

Ken Whisenhunt has a golden opportunity to shake off the Steeler’s mantle and establish an independent identity for himself and the Arizona Cardinals.

He has won my respect by bettering his 2010 record and if he leads the 2011 team to at least a .500 season I would love to see what he can do in ’12 and ’13.

It may be my imagination but coach Whiz seems to be coming into his own both as a HC and as a personality, much looser and jovial. I hate to admit it but I like the new Ken. If his team wins out at 9-7 all bets are off on his durability as an NFL Head Coach. He will have earned the title.

Win over Cleveland was a good game for Skelton and the Cards.

I thought both teams came to play and Skelton continues to improve.

I know some Cardinals “fans” disagree just because they are the smartest guys around, but I was entertained throughout the contest. Both teams had good plays sprinkled in at the right moments and the Arizona Defense did not disappoint or fail at crucial moments.

The Cardinals looked like a well coached team. They deserved and earned the win.

by AZ retiree on Dec 18, 2011 7:24 PM MST up reply actions

Nice of you to finally give Whiz some props

But you’ve become the retiree who cried wolf. The next time the Cardinals lose, he’ll again be the worst coach in NFL history, an all-around incompetent egomaniac, the reason you’re no longer a Cardinals fan, etc.

by Zapf on Dec 18, 2011 7:52 PM MST up reply actions

Adults give praise when it's due.

Adults also call out poor performance and ineptitude when it applies. 1-6 is sucking mud and there is no excuse for any coach with NFL talent at his disposal to fail that badly. I blame the HC.

On the other hand, a dramatic turn around and talent emerging and meshing must also be attributed to the HC. I may be dumb but I ain’t stupid.

The Cardinals have done the job, as of late, by performing and entertaining in NFL professional style. That’s got to be on Whiz.

Good luck Cardinals fans and I hope you make the playoffs. Monday Night Football may be a Superbowl preview with the Steelers qualifing for the playoffs. Should be a great game tonight!

by AZ retiree on Dec 19, 2011 9:40 AM MST up reply actions

Superbowl preview??

Doubtful to be honest. While the Steelers are always a threat in the post season. I don’t know that the Niners have the secondary to stop the Saints or Green Bay. Though they’re a tough team, they haven’t played a passing team like those. The closest being Detroit and possibly Dallas, and those teams do not compare to Brees/Saints and Rodgers/Pack.
