Its time for the Skelton Show?

Now, this is not a post judging who should be the QB etc.

Considering that with Skelton has gone 5-1 this year, with all five games won in very close fashion...I was thinking John Skelton needs his own "Tebow Time" catchphrase. I want to see if ROTB fans have good ideas and if we win a nail-biter in Cincy, then we hammer the phrase for the last game against the Seahawks to the media about the other turnaround team in the league...that is if Kolb doesn't start and ruin it...for the Skelton Show.

My own is the Skelton Show...but I'd like something a little more memorable and catchy.

Rules: This is a phrase that one would one would use if the Cardinals were down 10-14 with 4 min in the 4th. Ie Get Ready for the Skelton Show! Play on words greatly appreciated. Inside jokes, obscure references also accepted.

Two Notes:

1) Wikipedia- has 3 other John Skeltons including a famous poet to make one's phrase...

2) It mentions John the QB's nickname is John "Helter" Skelton. So Helter Skelter would be an option...but if the Seahawks just got 20-17 with 2:30 to go...who is going to say get for the helter skelter... Not feeling it, but I'll see what everyone has to say.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Revenge of the Birds' (ROTB) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of ROTB's editors.

Ugh

I vote no Skelton Show stuff just because of all this stupid BS coverage that Tebow gets. I hate these QBs getting all the credit for what their teams do, no offense.

When the team's winning, the QB gets all the credit

When the team’s losing, the backup QB becomes the most popular player on the team.

I get that

But I refuse to look at it that way. This is a team game…. It is disrespect to the other guys if it is all on the QBs shoulders.

That's not ALWAYS true...

Look at the Colts this year without Peyton. Last year they were what 13-3, this year at BEST they will be 3-13. Just one of many examples, but it is the epitomy as to why QB’s get so much credit.

There is only 1 Peyton Manning though

In this case, it applies, but in general I don’t like to say that.

Showboating Skelton?

Take Shelter, it’s Skelton?

That’s all I’ve got.

Countdown Recap Gave Some Ideas

Not so great ideas…but others are taking notice.

I do want to highlight a point they made. Though its not Skelton carrying this team, there is psychological uplift to the whole team if the QB appears confident and competent and gives you a chance to win. Sure the Defense is what has most improved, but to say that it helps that they knew/know the offense was going to win the game if they (the defense) gave them a chance is important part of their improvement.

Also, for the record, Skelton is 6-1. The San Fran game was for all practical purposes completely his game.

Although we have to admit

He almost lost the game for us yesterday late in the 4th with that near INT in the middle of the field that Andre broke up

How 'bout...

John “Oh shit he is going to get sack, wait he broke the tackle, now he running around in the backfield and throws it into triple coverage some how ofr a completion and a TD” Skelton

It might be a little long though…

He started out as #2 now he's #1 either way it's time to go to the John.

Skeltonmania is the phrase ProFootballTalk is using.

The Skelton Show is pretty good actually. If he even plays again this season. That’s not a sure thing.

So right again we cardinals fans set to kick Kolb to curb cause Skelton has won some games. Face it its about the defense and managing the game on offense. Kolb can and will do the same until we get some studs on the OL. The team as in the Dallas game the ball gets spread around and I feel he will do so again in our upcoming game. I remeber the schizophrenic fans yelling one week for Hall next week for Derek than Skelton based on who made the most completions in a game. So let be honest until our ol improves anybody with out quick release and quick read will struggle. go cards

by naironpalm3 on Dec 20, 2011 8:20 AM MST reply actions

Two points

1) Some Games? 5-1, playoff contention after being 1-6. This is not comparable to last year’s decision of who stinks the least.

2) If the OL is so bad, then why does Skelton always find a way to win. Not saying that Kolb couldn’t be good with a solid OL…but we don’t have on at the moment, so why not go with QB that appears better in this situation.

Kolb did play well in the 2nd half. This game against Cincy is big. This is the first “big game” for the Cardinals in a while, not just a good opponents but one with consequences for both players. I just like Skelton in this spot. I am not saying that next year w/ an improved OL we go to Kolb…but why switch horses midrace.

by FarRock5 on Dec 20, 2011 11:40 AM MST up reply actions

Our O-Line has been playing better

for what its worth,. Not good by any means, and OT is still the #1 need on this team, but they have been playing better.
Anyways, while i completely agree that this is a big game against Cincy, we’ve been playing must-win games since Week 10 against Philadelphia. Hopefully they keep that mind-set going all they way to 9-7

People who want to cut Kolb will never be satisfied.

We have more than last years dream, TWO very good QB’s. Let’s give them a real
chance and wait till the end of next season to have this talk.
Our “O” is happy with either of them so not to worry. It’s our D’s ability to contain Dalton/A.J. Green we should be concerned with, imo.
