Offseason Wishlist: Adding another Williams
Since Gabe Watson probably won't be around next season (if we have a season), and it's more than likely that Bryan Robinson will be calling it a career. Leaves us fairly thin at NT, Dan Williams came on very strong at the end of last year, which is all great but we are going to need more at that position, and since Whiz and Co. like the "mentor" type of veterans. My question is do any of you think signing Jamal Williams to backup our own Dan Williams would be a good signing? I know that Jamal is far past his prime, but any of you think he could help our defense sharing maybe 30 percent of the snaps with Dan Williams?

I think Angry Gabe will be back...
Coaches wanted to get his attention…

+1 Gabe comes back
He played well in his limited snaps. And Mr. Robinson played hard in his final year in the NFL.
Section 103, Row 19
Agreed
Robinson deserves a lot of credit for his play/role as a Cardinal.

I think Gabe will be back

Gabe won't command much on the open market
I think they will re-sign him

What about Branch?
He played tackle in college

and he's repeatedly proven he can't play it at this level
His only success, however little that may be, has come when they slide him out to end. He’s just not tough enough to be a nose tackle.

Suppose Watson does come back...
He may not be great, but I’m not that worried about our front three. I believe that Williams, CC and DD will all have a better year, if for no other reason than we have a much better DC now. They have much more ability than we saw last year. Another quality backup would be nice though. Anybody else feel the same about the D line? Haven’t seen much conversation about them here, everyone is always talking about the linebackers!
We probably have the best
3-4 line in the game. But without LB’s, it doesn’t really matter.

I'm worried about the depth
I thought Branch was holding his weight, but we had serious problems on the line when DD was out. That may have had more to do with the OLB’s playing like crap.
I agree...
but I’m not sure who’s available that would be an upgrade over Watson. I think he is adequate. Same goes for CC and DD, who would be able to step right in and perform at a satisfactory level, but be cheap enough to justify the money for a back-up? I’m a huge believer that everything starts up front on every play, and the line is the most important piece of the team on both sides of the ball. Glad our D line is solid, but the O line needs a HUGE upgrade for us to succeed no matter who is taking the snaps. You also made a good point about the line play affecting the linebackers. I hadn’t considered that.
CC, DD and the plug
Need I say more…but yes our front 3 is as solid as they come, so long as Williams keeps progressing
