2011 ROTB Mock Draft: Tampa Bay Makes Selection At No. 20

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, despite their 10-6 2010 record, have quite a number of needs. Yes, they have a quarterback in Josh Freeman and a running back in LeGarrete Blount. They have some key players on defense. Even still, there are needs all over the offensive line and also on the defensive side of the ball.

Representing the community is hevchv and I represent the writers. The Kansas City Chiefs are now on the clock as we begin the stretch of the draft with the 2010 playoff teams. I will pick for the writers and and Nick Thoreson is up for the community. Email me your picks and explanations by 11PM AZ time tonight. You know the rules -- no trades, no drafting guys that have been drafted.

Remember that what makes this even better is healthy debate. Put in your two cents.

Star-divide

Hevchv:

Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado

Although having one of the better up and coming CBs in the league is usually a good thing, its not if he can't get on the field. That is the case with Aqib Talib. He recently turned himself in on a gun charge, along with his mother (don't laugh, true story). With his pending charges, who knows if he would see the field next season. Couple that with the one year contract extension of the ageless Ronde Barber and you have plenty cause for concern for that position. Jimmy could be just what the doctor ordered.

Me:

Anthony Castonzo, OT, Boston College

Safe and smart. Those are two words that you can use to describe Castonzo. He has the build and the skills, and he has solid footwork. This is exactly the type of player you want to protect your young quarterback. Josh Freeman had a breakout year. To maintain that progression, it would be a wise thing to have a guy you know is going to have his back. Costanzo is that guy. His frame is there, his skills are there and he has the intelligence. Why wouldn't they make this pick?

The Jimmy Smith pick is very risky

They drafted Talib and now he got in trouble. Smith is apparently an unreliable player in terms of having character issues and a poor attitude. He could be Talib all over again. Great pick if he can keep his head straight though. The Castonzo pick is solid.

Totally agree!

Given Talib’s problems w/ character, I think its extremely unlikely they go w/ a player at the same position with the same character concerns! Just makes no sense to me… They have to go DL or OL. The talent outside of Smith isn’t there at CB for the 20th pick. I would expect them to go w/ Clayborn in this case.

I like the Castonzo pick… Its good value.
