Just a rumor, but it sounds like the Cards could send next years first round pick to Philly as soon as teams are allowed to trade players again. I just hope that we don't have to give up any players (think of how some people in Philly thought we would send them Peterson), a first round pick already sounds like too much for Kolb to me.

Thoughts?

Gosh

I hope not. We just got rid of a question mark like Kolb, maybe if the guy had played a full season or so, but he hasn’t what a waste of draft picks if we do get him.

by Cardsfan928 on May 2, 2011 2:24 PM MDT reply actions

i really hope not, if we sign Bulger......

and try to develop Skelton and if whiz doesnt like Skeltons development, then just draft a QB next year. Next Years crop of QBs are all better than Gabbert, Newton, Locker and Ponder.

by Ogre7 on May 2, 2011 3:06 PM MDT reply actions

To be completely honest

I don’t see why we can develop Skelton under Bulger but not Kolb. I love Skelton. But I am really against forcing him to become the starter next season. I would be excited to have Kolb here. Not only is he a good player, but he seems to want out and play as a starter, so he’s definitely not going to be lackadaisical playing for us. That alone makes me excited at him playing here.

by KholdStare88 on May 2, 2011 4:02 PM MDT reply actions

A first?

That’s too much. I’ll give a 2nd, and maybe throw in some additional picks. 1st pick is too risky right now.

by The Suns on May 2, 2011 4:36 PM MDT reply actions

Philly seems dead set on getting a first for him though

They are going to milk teams dry for him as much as they possibly can.

Not just that...

Bickley was saying they want a 1st rd pick and a starter for Kolb. ANd mention DRC as the starter. Bick said he would do the 1st and Toler, but not DRC…

You've been Stroh'd™!!!

by Strohman on May 2, 2011 8:26 PM MDT up reply actions

DRC and a 1st?

I’d rather have Skelton have another go. The Eagles are asking for too much.

by The Suns on May 2, 2011 9:08 PM MDT up reply actions

I saw something about that too

Its crazy that they think Kolb has proven enough to get that much for him. Besides, Philly also has an offense that is very Quarterback friendly, so we really don’t know if Kolb will play well at all wherever he goes either.

I want Kevin Kolb

But now, the Eagles are being ridiculous. If that’s how much they want, then I hope no one accepts their deal.

by Skii on May 2, 2011 9:17 PM MDT up reply actions

Just go for

the quick fix at the position with either Palmer, Bulger, or Hassleback. All these quarterbacks could pass a certain knowledge on to Skelton. Bulger can teach how to read defense, Palmer can teach how sense pressure and quick release, and Hassleback can teach the proper use of snap counts and hand signals in extremely loud stadiums. If you drafted Skelton to be your future guy, why aren’t you getting veterans to mentor and groom him. Personally I want Palmer, like I said he has to face the Ravens and Steelers defense twice a season. Imagine him going against the NFC West Defense with Fitz and Breaston as his targets instead of T.O.cho

by NATIVEWOOD on May 2, 2011 4:37 PM MDT reply actions

I dont know what Whiz wants in a QB.

He brought DA in and let everybody know that he was the QB he wanted and look at how that turned out. Most great coaches take what talent they have and play to there strengths. From what I’ve seen of Whiz, it’s his way or the High way. No QB and the O-Line cant pass block, bring in a one of the best run blockers in FA and pass the ball on 3erd and one. To his defence the Patriots have the best coach in the NFL and he has the same mental make up. The difference is the Patriots have always had great position coaches and they did a great job bringing along players. Clancy “Penderghast?”, was not what he (Whiz) wanted, but he was good at getting players to bring it every week and Todd Haley may not have been popular with all the players, but you cant argue with their success.
So I say who knows who our QB is going to be, I just want us to get “THE ONE” Whiz wants.

by Reo Hays on May 2, 2011 4:39 PM MDT reply actions

1st too much, 2nd round pick worth it with a player we could do without or other picks.

F that get McNabb

don’t waste early round picks on a qb when the o-line is a wreck. Whoever he is will get destroyed.

by CardsDefense on May 2, 2011 5:59 PM MDT reply actions

But look at it this way.

Would you use a 1st round pick if you know it gives you the best chance(this is the QB he wanted) to keep Fitz

by MarcusJC on May 2, 2011 6:00 PM MDT reply actions

Good point

Fitz wants Kevin Kolb, and Fitz is essential to attracting new FA’s and keeping the fans.

by Skii on May 2, 2011 6:36 PM MDT up reply actions

I'll always be a fan of the Cardinals

That doesn’t mean I don’t want Fitz. Badly.

Trading a future No.1....

when you have no idea how the season will play out would be the height of stupidity. Of course no one thinks at this time of year that they may end up with a top 3 pick in next years draft. Did anyone at this time last year think we would be drafting No.5 this year?

by toolman234 on May 2, 2011 7:10 PM MDT reply actions

Had my feelings

but didn’t think it was going to be as bad as it was

by Cardsfan928 on May 2, 2011 9:06 PM MDT up reply actions

you'd have to think that if the staff if high enough on Kolb,

they’d be comfortable thinking that with the right QB, we wouldn’t be picking in the top half of the draft.

by Steamin' Beamin' on May 2, 2011 11:14 PM MDT up reply actions

its true

if thats their guy then they should pull the trigger on the trade

by forget on May 2, 2011 11:28 PM MDT up reply actions

I'd be a lot happier with giving next year's 1st over the #5 in this year's draft.

With the right QB behind center the Cardinals can take this division. They may not necessarily be primed to go deep into the playoffs again but the division is still wide open as I see it. They have two glaring needs remaining to address this off season, QB and O-line. No position is more important than QB and that alone makes it worth dealing a first to get your man. Another playoff trip probably cements Fitz with the organization too. Even more reason to get that QB now. Personally not on the Kolb fan train but he may indeed represent our best option.

Kolb is not worth ransoming our draft.

What is his record as a starter? Skelton is a respectable 2-2. He WILL get better next season. He just needs a veteran mentor and a few seconds in the pocket.

If you don't have anything good to say about the Cards this season, you'd be correct.

by hevchv on May 2, 2011 8:42 PM MDT via mobile reply actions

ha respectable 2-2

he completed 40% of his passes. he made one play in the cowboys game, that game was won by the defense, same in the denver game. max hall would have won those two games also..

by forget on May 2, 2011 10:02 PM MDT up reply actions

Leave it to forget to be negative.

This will be my only comments towards you. You need more help than our Cards. You are absolutely insane.

by hevchv on May 2, 2011 10:36 PM MDT via mobile up reply actions

there's nothing positive about 40% completion pct...

just saying. i wouldnt rely on skelton to be the QB of the future.

by forget on May 2, 2011 11:26 PM MDT up reply actions

I was one of the ones with the canned “Not worth the first” responses every time this name and this valuation came up.

But I just had a thought…

In trading Kolb to Cardinals for a future draft pick before the season even starts, they have no incentive for us to win – it’s actually the opposite. Their interests are best served by giving us a lemon and Cardinals tanking, thereby giving them more value for the pick they were traded.

What if we made it a conditional trade, in which we do something like, say, if we make it to the playoffs we will give you our first and third round picks. If we don’t, we only give second and fourth.

Thereby we don’t overpay for a product we don’t know will perform, and the Eagles are fairly compensated based on how good he actually is.

The Eagles

I refuse to believe anything they say about Kolb, if he was really as good as they claim, then why did Vick finish the season

by Cardsfan928 on May 2, 2011 9:10 PM MDT up reply actions

This is the argument by Kolb-haters that I don't get

Kevin Kolb started the season, but got injured. Michael Vick came in and was outstanding. Then, he got injured, and Kevin Kolb came back in. Kevin Kolb performed outstandingly too, and that led Andy Reid to say something like, “I’m in the position every Coach wants to be in. I don’t know which QB to play, because both are so good” or something really close. Then, he ended up putting Michael Vick back in because he was having an MVP season.

Michael Vick ended the season because he was the second best QB in the NFL, right behind Tom Brady. Even if the Eagles had Peyton Manning, it would be hard to bench Michael Vick.

by Skii on May 2, 2011 9:20 PM MDT up reply actions

Reid

also said Kolb could win a superbowl, so why was Vick playing when Kolb was good to go come playoff time?

by Cardsfan928 on May 2, 2011 9:54 PM MDT up reply actions

Like I said

Michael Vick had a fantastic season. It would’ve been hard for Peyton Manning to get Michael Vick benched.

by Skii on May 2, 2011 10:54 PM MDT up reply actions

That makes too much sense, the Eagles would never accept it

They want to get a Ricky Williams to New Orleans esqe draft pick swiping.

by JoeCB1991 on May 2, 2011 9:15 PM MDT up reply actions

Agreed

Kolb in injury prone and in reality, say even if we did sign Kolb, Skelton already has a year in the organization (playbook, personnel sets, terminology) so I don’t see Kolb being a huge upgrade. Anyone can pass for huge yards in the Reid system, look at McNabbb

by Cardsfan928 on May 2, 2011 9:08 PM MDT reply actions

I would be very angry if this actually happened.

A first round pick is way to much. He hasn’t proven enough to warrant that kind of trade. I am not saying he isnt good or cant be good I just think we needed to see more to start trading away high picks like that for him. Honestly though I am really hoping that somehow we can still get orton look what he did with lloyd just imagine what him and fitz can do.

by BIGRED CARDINAL on May 2, 2011 9:46 PM MDT reply actions

the way I see it

either a draft pick for Kolb, or Bulger as a free agent without giving up anything.
In either case—Whiz will still be “grooming” Skelton as his project QB.
so why give up a pick ???

If we do nothing and Skelton starts…if we run, run, run, then run some more, maybe we can be 6-6 and after a dozen games Skelton “wakes up” to realize what’s going on with defenses. We play 3 of the last 4 at home and can still be a playoff team. (although—that is a very shaky scenario—mostly wishful thinking, I guess).

No more night. I have seen the light. Let it shine on bright.

I say we trade a conditional pick for him

There is no way I want to trade a 1st Round pick for him, and then next year, if we have the #1 Overall pick, lose it.

by Skii on May 2, 2011 10:55 PM MDT reply actions

see i like that

like they do in the NBA say a top ten pick would be considered a lottery pick. we trade our 1st rnd pick but if we end up say in the top 10 it is protected and instead they get the next years 1st or however that works then i would be fine with that

will be coming to Arizona this year. Mark it down now.

by kj197728 on May 3, 2011 1:05 AM MDT reply actions

I just want someone on the roster I can point to and identify as a starter

I will say, I am very trepid of overpaying for Kolb. If he can be a top 15 QB, he’s worth a first, imo, and maybe some kind of throw-in but not much else. I really don’t see him as a top 10 QB at this point, and that’s the kind of price the Eagles have on him.
