Peyton Manning To The Cardinals?

With the recent news that Peyton Manning has undergone neck surgery for the 2nd time, and the fact that he is currently without a contract, Peter King is wondering if the Colts are second guessing whether or not they should sign him for another 5 years.  Is it possible that Peyton Manning will hit the free agent market whenever that should happen?

Star-divide

If I was the Cardinals front office, I would seriously consider offering Peyton a permanent contract being paid $1 million more than the highest paid QB in the NFL.  Basically this would be an agreement to resign each season as long as he wants and adjust his salary to be $1 million more than whoever the highest paid QB is.

Any chance, even a little, that this is a possibility?  Any Cardinals fans out there who wouldn't want Peyton over any other QB available?

Personally I think the guy will play at least another 5 years, and with his talent, could easily take the Cardinals to the Super Bowl and win.

Now, before all you smart a$$es out there start telling me that this won't happen and that the Colts will never let him play for anyone else, I already know all of that.  However, I can still hope right?

Sign Peyton! That would be badass

I wish the Colts would let him go

I mean, we have something to offer: Fitz, a chance to play in the NFC West (Which would mean trips to the Playoffs every year), and improved Defense, etc.

I wish.

Yes please.

And I know you said not to say it…but it’s so never going to happen that it needs to be repeated, NEVER GONNA HAPPEN

Dear Michael Bidwill,

Please read this post and show us the promise to be aggressive in making the Arizona Cardinals better, by signing Peyton Manning.

Peyton has some things in play for his career. Is there any other QB in history that has ever won a superbowl from the AFC and NFC?

ESPN would just say that it doesn't count because of the NFC West...

dude

I would love it and all that, but Peyton Manning doesn’t want to come here and get his brains beaten in by this offensive line.

Honestly

Our OL is not a whole lot worse than the one out in Indy. Manning makes that line look incredible with his ability to move inside the pocket and avoid the oncoming rush.

by khodder on May 26, 2011 1:38 PM MDT up reply actions

Incredible? I don't think so.

Credible yes. They’ve not been very good recently.

by hadrarius on May 26, 2011 5:24 PM MDT up reply actions

For a line as bad as they are individually.

They allowed Manning to get sacked just 16 times in 695 dropbacks. That is as a team the best sack percentage in the NFL, yet next to none of it was becasue of the OL. Manning made that OL look like the best pass protection unit in the league, when in reality it is no better than the one we want to overhaul in Arizona.

Looking good on a stat sheet is one thing

but they were widely acknowledged as being sub par on the field. That is pretty impressive though. Manning is the ultimate field general. Too bad the chances of actually getting him remain in the realm of fantasy.

Exactly.

I completely agree

but the Card line also had trouble run blocking.

Point-being, Indy is Manning’s offense, he can do ANYTHING he wants. Not sure he’d get the leeway anywhere else.

Any coach, regardless of the player, will expect that player to run his system, not what the player wants.

by KDean75 on May 27, 2011 8:09 AM MDT up reply actions

Sure he would get the leeway.

1. He wouldn’t go anywhere that he didn’t get it.

2. They wouldn’t get him without the intention of using him to his fullest capability.

3. They let Derek Anderson throw 8 trillion times a game. Trusting Peyton Manning to make the right choice would not be an issue.

As little as four years ago,
Now, before all you smart a$$es out there start telling me that this won’t happen and that the Colts will never let him play for anyone else, I already know all of that.

that was the conventional wisdom about the Packers and QB4.

Many, many superstars have finished their careers with other teams than the ones they enjoyed their glory with (though damned few have done it with much success). :)

"It's a great day to be great, baby!"

"Here I am, brain the size of a planet,
and they ask me to pick up a piece of paper.
You call that job satisfaction?
'Cause, I don't."

THE BEARS STILL SUCK!

There's a cautionary tale in there somewhere! LOL

QBs past their prime

usually don’t end up with another team ready to make a serious run for it. By the time the team could get built around them they are done. That may be due to retirement or just should have retirement.
