Worst Loss of All Time....

You know I am just sitting here thinking what is the Cardinals Worst Loss Ever.  Now I know 98% of you are going to say Super Bowl.  That is too easy and sense Santonio Holmes didn't get his second foot down i'm not going to allow that answer.  No im talking pathetic performances, the worst of the worst.  I am talking 47-7 in New England.  I am talking 19-12 Vs Carolina last year (they won twice all year) what a pile of crap that was.  How about in 1995 Kansas City 24-3 (I only bring this up because it was Steve Bono doing a 71 yard naked boot leg for a touchdown, he was a speed demon).  How about 2003 we lost to Cleveland 44-6 making Kelly Holcomb look like Tom Brady with a 141.9 passer rating (oh by the way we were out gained 481 yards to 187 oh and Cleveland ended the year 5-11)... I am curious out of these games what do you think was the worst most pathetic loss ever.  Id like to hear about any that I missed.

Superbowl

was our most embarassing loss, however the NE game was shortly before our dominant run to the super bowl

SB loss wasn't embarrassing at all

We were a team that many people thought didn’t even belong, and only 2 minutes away from a championship. It was the most bitter loss.

Agreed

Bitter loss that shouldn’t have been a loss. I’m still waiting for one of the Referee’s to admit they screwed up the 4th Quarter.

Why must we remember these things?

LOL. They bring back bitter memories. This is really hard. I am going to say the Pats loss because it was so very embarrassing in a year that was so great.

Like the Cardinals? Revenge of the Birds is where to go.
Like Arizona Sports in general? SB Nation Arizona is where you'll get it all.

We remember because.......

I like to remember because our history has changed. No longer do we see games like this every single week. (It does happen to every team every so often even Bill Belacheck). I write the fan posts because only true fans remember this because even though our team was in the crapper those years and still sat on the metal bleachers on the east side of Sun Devil Stadium and went into school every Monday with the worst burn and couldn’t talk. I wish I could go to more games only going to two in University of Phoenix though I was so glad one was a playoff game….Oh and next week Ill do best games… just picking my games (2008 is too easy so im going best game from crapper cardinals)

Wow... I feel old

I really thought Cleveland was the worst loss I have ever seen. Though most people wernt with me in Sun Devil Stadium that year so their wasnt really the following we have now. All I can say is thank god this game was in Cleveland because It might of been bad enough for me to walk out at halftime.

Worst loss can only be the Super Bowl

Most embarrasing could be a lot of different losses. Last year against Carolina, in Philly Thanksgiving night, NE 3 seasons ago, the Cleveland or KC games you mentioned…All were embarassing.

Worst loss though, no contest, the Super Bowl.

The Superbowl was more disappointing over anything

Remember, we were an underdog team who every expert had going in the 1st Round. We then came whiten two minutes becoming the Champions.

how about that embarassing game

against the niners in December two years ago. i remember espn saying we were one of the five best teams in the league that week and then we get destroyed by san fran (maybe not in the final score, but they physically dominated us)

Two games

Same season, Denny Green’s last. The Monday Night loss to Chicago was infamously epic, but at that point AZ had already switched to ML and weren’t going anywhere. But going into that season, I really thought the team was going to turn the corner and after a week 1 win vs SF and a hard fought loss to the 13-3 defending NFC champs SEA on the road, week 3 was a HUGE game vs STL. Trailing by 2 with less than 2 mins to go and with the ball at the STL 17 and Rams have no TO’s left. Three runs into the line and then a chip shot FG and we would’ve been in great shape to make a run at the division. But KW fumbles, the team lays down the following week vs ATL, KW gets benched and the season goes in the toilet.
The loss to CHI was more memorable, but the loss to STL set up the “same ol’ Cards” refrain for the rest of the season.
Honorable mention for the OT loss to SF the following year when Rackers missed the chip shot in regulation and KW fumbled in the end zone to end it.

Agreed

Worst loss ever was the epic MNF loss to Chicago hands down. “They were who we thought they were, and we let em off the hook”!!!!

I thought we al agreed that the MNF meltdown never happened

and that we should never bring it up. Here it was completely erased from my memory, and now the nightmares are going to start again…

Wow I forgot

Holy crap I forgot about that game I remember actually being sick to my stomach after getting up on the bears like that and if i remember correctly the bears didn’t even score an offensive touchdown in the game.

by cschiemann on May 11, 2011 4:54 PM MDT up reply actions

Wow...

so many to choose from (unfortunately). You could pick a few from Sun Devil stadium each year that were memorable. I remember years when we didn’t even know how to lose at the end of the season. We always seemed to play well in December when it didn’t matter, and all that did was get us a pick in the 9-14 range in round 1.

I can’t argue with the ones posted here. I think Buddy (‘you got a winner in town!’) Ryan running off the field game was a bit embarrassing. I think that was the Cowboys..

I know last year was the first time ever that I left the stadium angry after a win….it was the Raiders game when Janokowski missed the FG….I couldn’t believe we let them waltz down the field to get in FG range, and I was furious even after he missed the FG.
