Ben Cousins, translated.
So...I just viewed a slide show put together by Ben Cousins, a contributor at bleacherreport.com. The presentation is Ben's prediction on when each team will get its first win. The slide show can be found here, focused on his Cardinals prediction.
I'm going to quote him now, "Week 1 - Carolina @ Arizona. The Cardinals will not be a good team this season."
Ouch, really? Just ouch. I mean no offense Carolina, but 2011 isn't going to be your year. The swing is not in your favor. Cam Newton is young, new head coach, new staff, the lockout. But get a year to tutor him, be solid in the draft, tailor an offense around him and 2012 will be a turnaround. (Disclaimer, I like the Panthers, and would like to see that happen this year. Spice up dat dirty NFC Sout.)
Yo, suits up front. I heard this. You'll can't draft, scout, negotiate. Is it true?
Coaches, I heard this. The roster could be supahstars and you'd find a way to fail. Weak schemes, lack of motivation. It couldn't be?
Mr. Whiz, I hear this. Who is this impostor? Where is the HC who led the team to 2 NFC West banners and a bowl? Or was it all KW13?
Playas, I hear this. Ya'll couldn't win a game if you had to. JOKES. Is he talkin out his @$$?
Last place in a soft division. Hard to see a duck and not quack.
My vision is a 2011 NFL season where the division is above .500 and we hoist another banner. And now with that, a poll.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Revenge of the Birds' (ROTB) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of ROTB's editors.

Double digits
There were several games last season that could’ve been won with decent QB play.
Add in some good Defensive pickups in Free Agency, try to do something with the O-line, and we’ve got a team that isn’t close to as bad as the 2010 one.
I'm going for 8-8
There are a few winnable games on the schedule this season, but there is a rough stretch of 4 out of 5 games being away.
By the way
That Bleacher Report post is one of the more ignorant ones I have read… Then again, it is Bleacher Report…
Also the double digits
It’s got to start with offensive playcalling, there is no reason to have pass after pass called when the team is down by 10 or less. Even our D last year (with a coordinator who never mixed it up) wasn’t terrible when the offense picked up more than 3 first downs in any given game.
Not sure if I understand a single word of the post after the 2nd paragraph...
but I do know one thing, I will be pissed if they get stripped of easily the most winnable game on the whole schedule if say the lockout stretches into September. It looks like a tough stretch after week 1.
Section 135, Row 35
He did say we be a crappy team but he all so said Carolina will be our first win.

I voted below .500
It is tough to see this team getting more than maybe 6 wins in 2011 regardles of whom our QB is (Realistically).
The lockout has really worked against this team who is going to rely on new faces to improve this team from last season. We do not have a “base” on defense to work with. Horton is going to keep the terminology similar, but we still have a huge number of new plays to learn. While it is going to be tough for the defense to be worse than last season, it is not going to instantly become a top 10 defense jsut beacsue of a new coach. Good things take time, and building a defense, specifically built around teamwork and scheme, is one that is going to need to to get right.
Offensively if we get a new face in at QB they are going to need to be a very quick learner, one that can digest the playbook, work hard studying film, pretty much not leave the facility between lockout end and regular season game 1. Get the timing with his receivers down, learn the speed of each receiver so he knows how far to lead a receiver. All the little things are going to be really important, and the lockout hurts this team badly in this area.
We have a slate of games with plenty of games that would be classified as winnable (I count 12 (NYG, PHI, PITT, BAL), but with the issues the team is going to have right across the defense and at the QB position I can see is splitting those winnable games to finish 6-10 in 2011. 3-3 in the division, win two of the CAR/CIN/WAS games and one of the DAL/MIN/CLE games.
The more I look, the more I see it looks like 2012 is the target year for this team. Get a QB in with upside and a year in the system, Draft a LT highly in 2012, resign Fitz, Insert Sturdivant and Acho into the LB corps late 2011 and as starters in 2012. Build the team concept on defense. Go forward with two of Williams/Wells/Hightower at RB, Housler starting at TE with a year in the system, Roberts going into the WR breakout 3rd season.
It seems to me 2011 is going to be a “building” year, and 2012 is the target year to really push hard for playoff wins and the ulitmate prize.

Tough to swallow though
As a fan you always want to win but it’s good to have perspective.

No OT, no QB, no pass rush, a new defensive system with no time to implement it?
We’re not breaking .500 this year, but that’s fine. It’s if we can’t break .500 the year after that people should start worrying and bringing out the “Fire Whis” banners.
Agreed
The 2012 season is the season this team is really primed to take out this division, if they work out the QB situation this offseason. That is the one position that is going to really control where the team goes, but it is never going to be an immediate fix, heck even Warner was not an instant fix his play in 05 was not indicative of what we would see in 07 and beyond.
This team was a disaster in 2010
Even with significant FA moves, I don’t see .500 on the 2011 horizon.
