Open Thread: Trades, Signings, Rumors, and Other News (See Comments And Reactions To Moves As They Happen)

Since posts may take a little time to get up, come here for quick reactions and discussions as things happen

I'm not sure if someone had already planned on doing this, but I thought I would get the ball rolling. I figured it would be nice to have one thread where people can post any news they hear about trades, player signings, rumors, or any other interesting tidbits so we don't have to root through 100's of posts. Jess, maybe you can throw it up on the main page? This is one of the first times I'll say this, but I'm very lucky to work a weekend shift and have Tuesday and Wednesday off, so I'll be doing my best to keep this updated. Happy End of the Lockout Day to you all and let the fun begin :)

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Revenge of the Birds' (ROTB) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of ROTB's editors.

From what I've heard

They can start negotiations on Tuesday

But they can’t actually file the paperwork to the NFL that makes the trade official until Friday.

Looks like Kolb will be here tomorrow.

I bear no ill will towards the Cardinals.

That being said, I am thrilled that the Eagles found someone willing to take Kolb. Better you than us, guys. I hope you like pick-6’s.

Q: What do a leaky tampon and Sean McDermott's defense have in common?
A: They are equally ineffective in the red zone.

Todd Heap will be released by the Ravens.

We should look to pick him up. He blocks well, receives well and is a leader on and off the field. Plus he’s an Arizona boy. He should be pretty cheap and will help Rob Housler adjust to the game.

I say Orton

But you’ll find plenty of Kolb lovers here. Apparently 7 games is enough evidence that is going to be the next “it.”
As a Philly fan, if Kolb was a franchise QB would you trade him?

by Jesse Reynolds on Jul 25, 2011 5:23 PM MDT up reply actions

I have to be honest here.

Kolb telegraphs every throw (which accounts for the veritable banquet of pick-6’s he serves up), can’t throw a deep out, checks down every chance he gets and stares down receivers like a less refined Brady Quinn. There are a few other Kolb skeptics on BGN, but for the most part they worship him like he’s a god. I hope you guys have a lot of patience and can tolerate bad to occasionally mediocre QB play.

what else can they be showing?

Your average NFL fan doesn’t even know what a UDFA is and ESPN caters to the masses. Plus none of “signings” are official yet so they’d basically be reporting rumors. Hard for a major network to run a live show reporting rumors.

Kolb is Fool's Gold

Ask yourself this Kolb was the starting QB and lost the job. Kolb is 27 and Vick is 31 or 32 if Kolb was so good why not keep him and trade Vick. Buyer beware.

by letsthegamesbegan on Jul 26, 2011 7:32 AM MDT reply actions

Kolb lost the job because he got a concussion in the 1st game of the season

and Vick started tearing it up. The reason the Eagles are willing to trade Kolb is because Vick makes them more money as their starting QB. So then, you ask, why not just hold onto Kolb in case something happens to Vick? Well, Kolb doesn’t feel he should be a backup QB, and this is the last year of his current contract, so if the Eagles were to keep him and he didn’t get to play this year, they would most likely lose him to free agency next year and get absolutely nothing for him.

Needless to say, just because they’re getting rid of him doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t think he’s going to be any good..

Personally...

I think Cards should offer DRC straight up take it or leave it… if there is pick involved it better damn well be protected based off of performance.. like Klob throws 10+ more touchdowns than ints then they get the pick. And this better damn well be a 5th round pick and if they do get it then az gets phillys sixth or seventh or something like that

its simple DRC... for Klob

you have 2 hours to do this or we go get orton for a pick how simple is that. thats what i would do if i was Rod Graves. And then when we get orton for a 3rd round pick still offer klob for a 2nd and see who wins in camp. that way you get the best from all qbs and you can sign the one you like to a contract…

What I have a problem with is,

if the Bengals wanted to shut the door on him for whatever reason, they could do it. But he can’t have a say after being loyal to them for so long? I’ll admit it wasn’t the best way to do it, but Palmer doesn’t need the money and will be fine. The only ones punished here are the Bengals because they could have gotten something useful in return instead of just seeming petty.

Great to hear and I hope he does have it controlled.

Kolb might get left out?

@Cardschatter Darren Urban
Staying was always option. Don’t think he’d be thrilled tho. RT @NicholasPepe: @Cardschatter Kolb may be odd man out, back in Philly

Seattle pulling out of Kolb race & Orton/Hasselbeck still being available is crushing the Eagles leverage w/ the Cards. Who else wants him?
