Stevie B, isn't what the draft is all about?
I saw this morning that Steve Breaston has signed somewhere else, while I am not surprised, it pisses me off to no end. What happened to the "cultre change" Whiz? Drafting and developing players is that not the key? Nothing has changed!!! Dansby gone, Boldin gone, Rolle gone, and now Steve. Patrick Peterson are you next, 4 years and done? Why not, they are going to trade DRC, soon it will be Whiz, Fitz and a squad of UFLers. And the thing that really chaps my ass is, Breaston isn't even out of the door and the company line, " worried about the knee." BullSHIT! We can't afford to keep one of our core guys, but hey Braylon you need some cash, "what stone hands, don't worry about it!"

Very good point about losing guys after 4 years.
How can we ever expect to build a winning organization that will winfor many years (Sf in the 80’s, indy now..etc) if we can’t keep the players that would make us good.

same ole same ole
Guys, whiz can pay all the lips service he wants but its the bidwells who signs off on every deal! I dont know how anyone can have confidence in these guys to do whats in the best interest of winning. Whats that old saying"you are who your track record says you are". I’m convinced that the only way this franchise moves forward is with new ownership. For years and years we heard about the lack of money and that things would change once the revenue has from the new stadium comes in. It’s painfully obvious that these guys dont give a damned about winning. Its a shame because the fans deserve better!

Sounds like your still pissed they left St. Louis
Cheap, no longer applies. The past few seasons with the cap..the Cards weren’t millions under it and not spending. With the rules now, they have to spend 99% of the cap anyway.
I just hope they give it to the right guys.

iF YOU DON'T HAVE A CRYSTAL CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT THESE BOZOS HAVE DONE TO, AND WITH THIS TEAM...
Then you are an unobjective apologist for them. Sure they have to spend money this year with the new cap system but for you to say they weren’t millions under last year is just plain ridiculous! And by the way I left st. louis before they did.

I dont see your complaint
Since Michael took over running the team, they have brought in free agents. They were winners for 2 straight years before last years QB debocle. It wasnt as if they passed on a more expensive FA.
I agree that for decades Bill Bidwill was a jackass, and didnt care about winning or losing. I dont see it with Michael.
Last years FA decisions..letting Rolle leave..hof move. Letting Dansby go..do you think he was worth being the highest paid LB in the league? I dont..also..good move.

I was ok with letting those go but.....
Their alternate plan was a huge failure! The results of the new replacement players speak for itself. The only signing that worked was Rhodes and to me, he fell into their laps. I’m also a firm believer that Warner and Todd Haleys play calling was mainly responsible for the teams success and it was Green who brought Warner in. More importantly do you really think that if they brought all those guys back including Leinart that this team doesn’t win at least 8 games last year? I do!
by lifelongcardfan on Jul 28, 2011 10:46 AM MDT up reply actions
I think that if they kept lienert
As the starter..they would have won 3or 4 more gsmes than they did. (8 to 10 wins).
But that speaks more to coaching decisions then ownership issues.
You may be right about Haley. Perhaps with him here, we might not have fallen on our faces lsat year. Again not an ownership thing. He left for a promotion.
From my understanding, the Cards are paying the asst coaches well. They brought back Lott when his deal was up, and spent a lot upgrading the weight room. I even heard they might build an indoor training field to keep out of the heat for practices.
I believe there has been a drastic change in ownership policy in the lsat 3 to 5 years (michaels time).

leinart was due 14 million this year! thats why he was cut! thats on the bidwells
by lifelongcardfan on Jul 28, 2011 11:59 AM MDT up reply actions
Leinart was cut b/c he was Whiz never got along
If you wanna blame someone for Matty Ice not being here, lay it at Whiz’s feet, not the Bidwells.

If he was due $14m last year
Then you could claim cheapness..but I would argue..$14m for Lienert…NOT WORTH $4m
smart decision.
Once again, your rant about blaming the Bidwills is unfounded.
Lsdt years mess was coaching/graves fault for not replacing Warner with someone better. But, there wasn’t a better option out there to get.

once again i dont agree with you!
so you honestly believe that whiz would be dumb enough to cut the only qb that knew his system at the time and would risk throwing away the season which is exactly what happened! Man take off you’re maroon colored glasses and stop being an apologist!
by lifelongcardfan on Jul 28, 2011 1:31 PM MDT up reply actions
Your argument is retarded.
You think the Bidwills had Lienert cut a year before he was due big $$$.
Whiz screwed up. He’s still the best coach this team has ever had. I’m willing to give him the benefit of the dought, that he’s making the right decision targeting Kolb, rather than the cheaper Orton. Which, btw, the owners had to sign off on.
I’m opptimistic that Kolb wil play well and we should win our division in a cake walk.
PLAYOFFS!!!!

I think Lienert resigning with the Texans shows who he really is.
He was going to sign with Seattle, finds out that he has to compete with for the starting job. Drops back to being a backup. The guy needs to be cuddled, and doesn’t like to compete.
We could start fundraising to get someone to buy the Cardinals.
I believe we should start fundraising to get a group of us fans from ROTB to make an offer to buy out the Cardinals so we wouldn’t have to put up with the Bidwills anymore. We would need around $1 billion but we would only need to buy 50.1 % so we would need around $501 million. Or we could start a movement to pressure the Bidwills to sell the Cardinals (it would be a lot like the Fire Millen movement back several years ago)
I prefer the the latter!
I’m convinced that they aren’t capable owners! How many years of screwing things up does it take for someone to recognize this? I wish we could force these guys out and gett the league to sell the team to guys who are capable of hiring guys who are capable of making sound football decisions. Can the NFL fire them for the best interest of the league? lol
by lifelongcardfan on Jul 28, 2011 10:01 AM MDT up reply actions
Ok. We will go with the 2nd option, which is get a bunch of Cards fans to pressure Bidwill to sell the team
Ok, I’ll create a fanpost to see if people agree with us.
There is 0% chance of that happening
The Cardinals have been owned by the Bidwell family since ’32. Our best chance for change is with Michael Bidwell, who has a competitive and more modern philosophy on how to run a franchise.

Wow, pissed off!
Change your point of view a little. All of these players were asking for money that was above their true value. I believe am correct that we receive a compensatory 2nd rd pick for Breaston (read that somewhere could be wrong) if true think about the implications. We took a 5th rd player, paid him 5th round money, developed him into something much better and then got a higher rd pick for him. Hmmm. Sounds like a good deal. If we are able to develop our own talent instead of always having to go elsewhere and pay too much, I think that is a good thing. Rhodes for Rolle was a great trade. I see a much improved system.
"The true test of a person's intellligence is how much they agree with you."
This is why I'm worried about Kolbs price tag
We have lost enough good players over the last couple of years, now another one might get shipped away?
Lifelong Arizona Cardinals/Phoenix Suns/Chicago Bears fan [I have always lived in Arizona, dad is from Chicago].
Breaston is not a $5+ receiver in this league
I applaud him getting someone to pay him that much but he is getting paid for what he did in 2008 when he was a #3 WR behind two absolute stud wideouts. His numbers have dropped every season since then. His value is as a slot receiver who can also return some punts/kicks for you. That’s not a $5 million dollar player.
To a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
by Steamin' Beamin' on Jul 28, 2011 10:34 AM MDT reply actions
Did you ever think that maybe Breaston wanted to leave?
Breaston just left for KC to be the #3 slot guy (and maybe return punts again, which we all know that was a job he didn’t like giving up when he became a starter), so I’m betting he wanted to play for Todd Hailey again and go back to his 2008-09 role. Shitty that he left, but he is replaceable. Even with Roberts hopefully taking a step forward this season, we still have to find a #2 in FA, which still has some good options out there. Mike Sims-Walker would be a nice addition and I think he could be a force complementing Fitz. He would come relatively cheap, and would be a low risk/ high reward signing.
