Why you Cardinal fans should be excited to get Kevin Kolb.

Hi, I'm an Eagles fan. After the Kevin Kolb trade, the reaction by some of you guys were overly pessimistic. Yes, even I agree that you guys overpaid a little for Kolb, but still, you guys shouldn't pout over it.

And as a side note I'm gonna tell you one of his hobbies. He hunts wild boars with a knife and once shot a rattlesnake that was about to harm his girlfriend.

Draft day 2007 was a wierd day for us Eagles fans. We wanted to draft an eventual replacement to Brian Dawkins, one of our best players of all time, or add other defensive help. Instead we traded our first round draft pick to the Dallas Cowboys, which severely pissed us off. What's more is that we drafted a QB named Kevin Kolb. We were enraged, why choose a QB from a small ass college, and a quarterback, who at that was critisized for his arm strength ?. (He would eventually prove us wrong on that). Why him as the replacement to McNabb? Why not at least Brady Quinn?

Lets fast forward to 2008. It was his rookie season, but even by rookie standards, he was horrible. He throws for three passes against the Pittsburgh Steelers. His only incompletion results in an INT. Against the Cleveland Browns, he throws for two passes, one of his incompletions result in an INT. Waah. Then, against the Baltimore Ravens he throws 23 passes. He has just ten completions, with two interceptions. One of those would be the famous 107 yard return for a TD by Ed Reed. We were scared mightily, this will be the guy to replace McNabb? Oh shit.

Another year passes by after you beat us in the NFCCG. :( In Week 1, 2009, Donovan McNabb gets injured again. Kolb replaces and holds on to the 38-10 victory. Week 2, we play the eventual Super Champ Saints. We lost 48-22 with Kolb throwing three picks. BUT Kevin puts up nearly 400 yards and 2 TD's, including a 71 yard TD pass to Desean Jackson. Week 3, we play the Chiefs, and win 34-14. Kolb puts up a monsterous performance again, this time throwing for 327 yards and 2 TD's-0 INT, (both TD's were longer than 35 yards ). He was the first QB to ever throw for more than 300 yards in both of his first two starts in NFL HISTORY . However, McNabb would return and play the rest of the season, his last as an Eagle.

In the offseason, Andy Reid makes a stunning desicion to trade Donovan McNabb to the Washington Redskins, which makes Kolb our future franchise QB. Unfortunately, Kolb would get a concussion from Clay Matthews in Week 1 of the 2010 Eagles season. Then Micheal Vick would wow the entire NFL, putting up monsterous performances against the Lions and the Jaguars. But Vick himself gets injured during Week 4 against the Washington. Kolb throws for 200 yards in relief throwing for a TD and an INT. HOWEVER, that INT should have been a TD. On the last play of the game, Kolb throws a beautiful pass into the back of the end zone, which was dropped by our WR Jason Avant. The dropped pass would be scooped up by DeAngelo Hall. Let's go to Week 5 (10-10-10) against your rival San Fransisco 49ers. Kolb throws for 253 yards and a TD. He also makes a clutch play towards the end of the game. On 3rd and 18 with the score tied at 24-24, Kolb eludes defenders and runs 18 yards to get the first down. We'd march all the way down to get a FG to win 27-24. Week 6 against the Falcons, Kolb throws a HELLUVA game(23-29, 326 yard 3 TD -1 INT), despite the swirling winds that pestered Matt Ryan instead. Despite losing Desean Jackson to a concussion, Kolb puts up a helluva tandem with Jeremy Maclin. One of his 2 TD's to Maclin would be from a perfect pass from 83 yards out. Oh, did I forget to tell you, about the wind? His only INT in that game would have been a TD to Brent Celek, but the swirling winds in Philly frigging pulled the ball to the left into the hands of the defender. Week 7 against the Titans was probably the worst start of his career, though it wasn't bad at first. Kevin threw a 50 yard bomb to no-name wideout Riley Cooper and would score from 4 yards out on the next play. However, Kolb would throw for two INT's, including one that was returned 40 yards for a TD by Cortland Finnegan. His last start was against the Dallas Cowboys, but this start was in garbage time. Literally. We rested ALL of our starters, that includes Jeremy Maclin, Desean Jackson, our entire O-Line, including Pro-Bowl LT Jason Peters, our entire defense.Kolb, in result would get sacked 6 times and throw 3 picks and a TD to a backup, washed up offense. WHY WOULD YOU BLAME HIM FOR THIS? DeMarcus Ware and the Cowboys D got to eat a Kolb Knob sandwich for lunch and shit it out later. Oh, did I forget to tell you, we ALMOST WON THE GAME DESPITE ALL THIS? Unfortunately, we lost 13-14.

Thoughts:

Now you know these statistics look worse on paper than it really is. 7 TD's-7 INT wouldn't have been his real TD-INT line. It would have been 9 TD'S- 2 INT's, with 1197 yards passing in 4.5 starts. Per game, that's 266 yards passing per game, 2 TD's and 0.45 INT's. Extranuate that to 16 games, that's 4256 yards passing with 32 TD passes and 7 INT's. Yes he won't be as good with a bad O-Line, but he should have solid statistics next year for you guys. He has a guy named Larry Fitzgerald to throw the ball to, which should help him a lot. I know it's a little to early to predict , but I think he puts up about 4054 yards with 25 TD's and 12 INT's.

Even if you don't think Kolb is a good quarterback, at least root for him. I will root for him too, except for the Eagles-Cards game. Will you?
