(DAY 7) Open Thread: Trades, Signings, Rumors, and Other News (See Comments And Reactions To Moves As They Happen)
The Arizona Cardinals Front Office continues to impress the league and their fans by being true to their word and being aggressive in the shortened Free Agency period. After a slow start, and fan losing patience waiting for news of the QB decision while watching FA QB's being signed by teams around the league, the word was finally passed that Philadelphia Eagles QB Kevin Kolb had been traded to Arizona for a 2nd round pick in the 2012 draft and starting CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. The die had been cast, some fans agreed with the move, others wanted Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton. The big question that remained was simply, "You have a QB, now who's next and how are you going to fill all of the other holes on the team?"
The Arizona Cardinals responded by being more active in three days time than they traditionally are in full Free Agency periods.
The team recap: (source)Key arrivals: Ex-Panthers UFA CB Richard Marshall, July 30; Ex-Eagles UFA LB Stewart Bradley, July 29; Traded for ex-Eagles QB Kevin Kolb, July 28 (Eagles get CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and second-round pick; Kolb agrees to new five-year contract worth $63 million with more than $20 million guaranteed); Ex-Packers UFA OG Daryn Colledge, July 29; Ex-Panthers UFA TE Jeff King, July 29; Ex-Ravens UFA TE Todd Heap, July 31, Ex-Eagle UFA ILB Stewart Bradley, July 29; Ex-Brown UFA OG Floyd Womack, July 30; Ex-Steeler UFA DE Nick Eason, July 30; Ex-Brown WR Chansi Stuckey, July 29; Traded for Ex-Redskin DE Vonnie Holliday, July 31 (Traded Tim Hightower and received Holliday and 6th round conditional draft pick).

We can handle a diva!
Does anyone not remember Anquan Boldin? He was not the same problem off the feild but he was very vocal on the field. All I know is that I am excited to go to a few games this year. drink some beer and eat some good barbeque, and see the cards win some games. I really wanna see them play the eagles. They remind me of the Miami Heat!
Hey now,
There also is not a WR in the league quite like Boldin
Boldin was a beast
I would not classify him as a diva.

Still love the OL pickups...
Heap is a great safety valve for Kolb, who may not even need it if they really can seal Edwards to run opposite Fitz. Could be a very potent offense, provided this staff can get them all to gel in time for the season!
Plus I still really like the younger guys the Cards have on D. Especially PP and those LBs that haven’t hit their full potential yet.

Also, added to the key arrivals:
Stewart Bradley, ILB
Floyd Womack, OG
Nick Eason, DE
Vonnie Holliday, DE
Chansi Stuckey, WR
Faith Focus Finish
Some players to think about
NT – Gabe Watson
CB – Trumaine McBride
DE – Kenny Iwebema
OT – Max Starks (Released by Pittsburgh)
WR – Braylon Edwards (UFA Jets)
*CB – Antonio Cromartie (Signed four-year deal worth $32 million with Jets)
OLB – Manny Lawson (UFA 49ers)
WR – Malcolm Floyd (UFA San Diego)
WR – Terrell Owens (UFA Cincinnati) – Never, ever, ever sign
WR – Legedu Naanee (UFA San Diego)
Section 103, Row 19
Thinking Iwebema may not be coming back.
Now that we have Nick Eason and Vonnie Holliday. Neither will be around long but Iwebema has had some injury issues.
Not wise, Remember Eason and Holliday are over 30
Iwebema is a young guy that can develop behind those guys… we need to develop the young guys
Carried seven DL last season
Holliday and Eason are both listed as DE. We have no NT/DT depth signed except for rookies (unless it has happened today and I’m not up to speed yet). Iwebema is not signed yet (again same disclaimer). I agree it’s not good to have no developing depth at the position but it doesn’t look like Iwebema is going to be brought back to be that guy.
Legedu Naanee
63 receptions in four years. The team is loaded up with receivers already. Can’t see them giving this guy a deal now. If they bring in another receiver it will be someone that is a definite #2 option, like Edwards.
He and Fitz
both have some long dreadlocks, I like the pairing.
It was key that he left!
We needed him on the streets, lol.

I'm really loving the offense
Time for Adams to step it up.
Edwards Knife fight?
I think Edwards got into some altercation sunday night. About 1 A.M. arizona time. I hope I’m mistaken but apparently he hangs with some ghetto shady people. Edwards tweeted some weird message
"don’t fight. if you dont know how"
then he made another one…I forgot what exactly. They are both deleted. Here’s another tweet by someone claiming to hang with him at that time.
Well.....
that would be smart of him…..

Assuming Edwards isn't in jail and suspended by now...
Maybe bring him in, maybe Floyd. If we don’t get either of those guys, there isn’t really anyone left I would expect to step into a No. 2 role, other than possibly TO.
Nose tackle! Sooner or later we’re gonna have to sign one!
I don't know....
as much as people hate on the Jets, there aren’t really any “problem” people there. Rex seems to have the respect of his team and not really any legal issues there (if Plex stays clean). Not sure role models are the issue. This would be a quieter town than NY though, for sure. Not so much media, hype and pressure.

Vonnie Holliday is reportedly thinking about retiring instead of reporting to the Cards camp
If true, what does this do for the trade? Bring Hightower back?
I hope so, because I like timmy, but
Maybe they just incresse the draft pick from a conditional 6th to a conditional 4th or 3rd?

Lofa Tatupu?
I read that SeaChickens ‘mutually agreed’ and released Tatupu. He would be a nice fit here you think? How much are Cards under the cap? What $$$ is left to spend. I would also rather see Floyd here than Edwards as #2 WR
Tatupu has played exclusively in a 4-3, we run a 3-4 here.
That, combined with the fact that he wouldn’t restructure to take less money from the seahawks, points to him not coming anywhere close to the desert..

He didn’t throw for only 3 touchdowns compared to 11 interceptions and complete under 50 percent of his passes.

Anyone besides me worried about the OL?
They sucked last year. Period. – Not really open to debate. They could not run block or pass protect.
We added Colledge and Womack (to me kinda eh; maybe a little physical improvement but new to the squad will offset the physical improvement) and a slew of rookies who will likely not play or if they play get beat a lot.
With the moves we made in other offensive positions, I think the OL is now a glaring weakspot on that side of the ball.

Do we?
I’m not so sure we do. Having a 2nd WR to help take pressure off Fitz is important but Heap should do the same thing. If Roberts or Doucet are worth their salaries they should find a way to get open. Especially if we establish a run game.

Speaking of Roberts...
Darren Urban says “Amazing how confident and good WR Andre Roberts looks compared to the last time we were in Flagstaff.”
Also Dave Pasch
Andre Roberts continues to impress at WR. Could he be a #2? some here feel he can.
Not so much.
Having a threat opposite Fitz leaves Heap against the lesser pass defenders. It benefits everyone. Maybe Roberts can do that, maybe not. I’m not confident a 2nd year receiver is going to be that guy.
Stephen Williams
He looked great last year. But he had troubles during the Regular Season. not saying that’s the case here since Roberts lit it up at the end of the year but why not bring someone in just in case?

The only way they can win is if Kolb throws 3 picks and our D can’t stop Carolina
He has been know to do that.
but I hope he does not.
Cardinals roster is at 93 currently.
Strange to think that a week ago there were half that many. Cuts are due already.
Where's Edwards or Floyd? WTH? The FO knows one or the other is necessary.
"The point is, by my standards, I won fair and square."

Nevermind on Edwards .... don't want a thug ass idiot on the team. I obviously can't say one way or the other if it's true but by twitter it seems true. I don't want an idiot fuck that gets into arguments and has his peeps cut up peeps.
That’s just ass and I don’t want those types on my Cards. Gimme Floyd or gimme someone else … Edwards and that dumb shit can stay the fuck away from my team. Fitz is the measure not some jack like Edwards.. that’s something I don’t think we as fans should or would want to take on.
"The point is, by my standards, I won fair and square."
-Bender
There was a twitter feed saying Mr. Edwards had his peeps cut someone. Pretty sure that would be in the news by now.
or they were playing Grand Theft Auto
Profootball talk
Braylon Edwards avoids arrest after members of entourage allegedly attack bar employees . . . with a knife and a fork
No thanks to Edwards as it was reported he was involved in an "incident" that involved people getting arrested and stabbed. No thanks gimme some other WR that can do the same like Floyd.
"The point is, by my standards, I won fair and square."
-Bender
Cut not stabbed. But anyway, what way to screw himself.
Good luck with your obscene contract demands now douchebag.
Well, his boys were involved...
For all we know he was finishing his Cherry Cobbler. Hence, the spoon was not used as a weapon.
Frpm the Article...
We’re told Edwards had nothing directly to do with the fight. In fact, the Birmingham police chief said his officers never had any interaction with the wide receiver
Do you all know we as Cards fans have the most horrible person to play for us. Not saying he would be anything close but I don't want people that even remind me of this atrocity.

I know most will think this is over reaction but it seems justified as people whom feel entitled do stuff like this. I want Fitz to represent our team not some idiot that runs with people like this... ridiculous.
"The point is, by my standards, I won fair and square."
-Bender
I agree...
However, we must have facts first. Even Fitz got a bad rap before with his domestic situation in 2008. We stood by him and believed in him.
So........ A disgusting individual--- doesn't matter how long after.
"The point is, by my standards, I won fair and square."
-Bender
Edwards is talented but if this is the company he keeps then I say pass.
"The point is, by my standards, I won fair and square."
-Bender
Ehh I think we can fix him.
Sure it’s different than fixing someone who’s cocky but I think that if we bring him to AZ he’ll see how important it is to follow the right company.
You're the damage girlfriend that gets beat.

You're the damaged girl that gets beat because she gives the guy a way back in..
"The point is, by my standards, I won fair and square."
-Bender
Yeah I thought you were. I just don't want some idiot fuck on the Cards to stain their rep.
"The point is, by my standards, I won fair and square."
-Bender
I was all about him but after this I say no .... talk to Floyd's agent. Edwards is trouble sooner than later.
"The point is, by my standards, I won fair and square."
-Bender
Maybe, maybe not.
I’m sure the FO would write up his contract with clauses for all that. They are smart, experienced, and no one wants Darnell barking up their tree…especially with NINO!
Okay I can take that ... But if this is the staple of action of Edwards he's a moron and I don't want it. period.
"The point is, by my standards, I won fair and square."
-Bender
Plus, we should have already been looking at Floyd.
Maybe there are secrets!
I'm all about team --- Edwards has shown he is all about Edwards. Pass.
"The point is, by my standards, I won fair and square."
-Bender
The Cards need a true 2 but not at this cost.
"The point is, by my standards, I won fair and square."
-Bender
This might drive Edward's asking price down but I don't see exactly what he did wrong here.
IMO this incident is causing overreactions because of his past.
Just saying guys... I am used to guys like Fitz and I want men like Fitz on the team not boys that think they need to puff up and whip ass. Grow up and realize how blessed you are to be able to play ball for a living.
"The point is, by my standards, I won fair and square."
-Bender
Who was the guy that finished the 05 season starting the game for the Cardinals? Something Boyd? He is a true example of someone who grew up. After he hasn't played football for 6 years.
To be honest I don't remember that....
"The point is, by my standards, I won fair and square."
-Bender
Shane Boyd maybe?
I dont know about any off the field issues he had I just remember that name for some reason.
sorry guys not trying to be a buzzkill just don't want a putz to destroy all the good the Cards have acquired.
"The point is, by my standards, I won fair and square."
-Bender
.Absolutely agree ... just hope I'm wrong about bray
"The point is, by my standards, I won fair and square."

If you could choose 1 number 2 WR, hypothetically, who would you pick?
Since its like three of us here. No number ones! If you can help it.
Manningham
Maclin
Harvin
Just like those guys.
Smith or Nicks in there number one?
I guess whoever is Healthy, usually right?
Hard to judge
I consider both of them high-end 2’s
p.s. secretly hoping the Raiders..
sign Zach Miller over the Seahawks
Ha I woulda loved to see him in AZ instead of Heap since he's younger and he's nearly a Todd Heap. But I guess with getting Housler we just want someone to groom him
Secretly? F that. If he signs with Seattle that sucks.
They have signed Sydney Rice and Robert Gallery. Adding Zach Miller makes for a pretty good haul. Tarvaris Jackson is under rated and is moving into an offense he already knows.
+1 Most don't get it but T.jack can be a viable qb in the nfl.

Speaking of Steve Smith
http://www.examiner.com/arizona-football-in-chandler/could-steve-smith-be-heading-to-the-cardinals
Is Mike May a credible source? This is probably just pure speculation on twitter.
mmmm? Where did this come from?
Also, cool article. Ryan Williams is on it. #84

wow i'd take steve anyday of the week but he isnt a burner or another big like bray or floyd. would be a great pick up without question.
"The point is, by my standards, I won fair and square."
-Bender
Would not surprise me if they were quietly talking to Smith
or at least giving it consideration. They are not done making moves. They just aren’t going at break neck speed anymore. Things have settled down to where that is not necessary. Feels so anticlimactic now.
I'm not sure but someone told me that the Cardinals just began talks with Floyd. don't trust me on that
I'm assuming Bray is too costly so we are going to move on
But I have a feeling Bray will be signed just not by the cards
We love proving people wrong Three Years as NFC West Champs!

Wow fitz resigning , smith signs and bray or floyd -- dear God we should have a power house of an offense. The only questions would be the OL and how they gel and if the young bucks on d can make it happen.
"The point is, by my standards, I won fair and square."
-Bender
Don't expect any combination of those 3. It will only be one guy that gets a deal here.
If they really are shopping all three then it’s good news. Buyers market.
